should convicted paedophiles be exterminated?

I have a child - my view hasn't changed. I couldn't cope with the knowledge that someone had died - although killing them myself would probably seem a sensible option at the time.
And what sort of abuse would justify death - would the child have to be under a certain age - after all sleeping with a 15 year old girl when you're 20 is technically child abuse - but worthy of the death sentence? How about exposing yourself to an 8 year old, getting a 10 year old to touch you - all paedophilia behaviour - but worthy of the death sentence?
How many of you have read Minette Walter's fiction book Acid Row? Where the sex offender that the whole estate went up in arms about turned out to be a gay guy in his early 20s who had slept with a 17 year old - an offence at the time of writing. If you were told that a sex offender lives in your street - that's what it could be - no risk to your children or you - but legally a sex offender guilty of underage sex.

Child sexual abuse is horrible - but as a previous poster said - lives can also be destryed by physical abuse, mental abuse, rape of an adult etc.

EDIT - your results of the poll may be skewed as when the first person voted no - you posted "WHO THE FECK SAID NO" that probably put a few people off voting

I voted no, I don't think anybody has the right to take the life of another human being.

That said, I think they should be locked up for life and never be released. Using them for testing medicines and surgical procedures as someone suggested instead of using animls is very tempting as long as it was done as humanely as possible. At least then there sad little lives might be of some use.

I do agree that it is a lot different when there is a 15 year old upwards involved, who has consented. In this case maybe the adult involved should receive a formal warning?

I live in a small town and a housing assiciation has placed 3 paedophiles in the same street, a street away from a primary school! Whilst I don't know all the facts it does worry me a lot and I'd rather they weren't there :x

Why should it be humanely? Was it humane of the bloke that raped that women on Jeremy Kyle to shove various foreign objects up her when she was 5/ 6 years old?

It was disgusting, but I think that if I started torturing them would that make me any better? What would the world be like if everyone retaliated against each other with violence.
I think that jail should be simple, no luxuries, a bed, a pot to poop in and plain food. No tv, no trips out.
The punishment should be having literally nothing to do so they have a lifetime to think about what they've done and the consequences it's led to.

I won't speak for muppet_mummy but in my opinion it should be humane as I don't want to lower myself to his standards. The mark of a civilised society is that we don't lower ourselves to the lowest standard within our society but maintain our humanity even amongst the dregs of society.

Do you really want to live in a world where people are treated that way? I know, lets not just use peadophiles for medical experimentation, lets chuck in every one who commits any kind of crime, maybe one day someone you know and love will be treated that way for I dunno.....missing a TV license payment.

I'm not particularily directing this at you frangelle, yours was just the last post, but I really think that everyone who is thinking along these lines is missing the bigger picture.

You take away human rights for one group of people, and the whole thing crumbles. Its like freedom of speech - you cant have freedom of speech and then take it away from certain groups that you dont agree with. Thats not the way the world works.

I agree there are some people who we might say dont deserve human rights, but then there might be others who think the same thing about gay people, or immigrants. Obviously they are completely wrong, but the point im trying to make is that you cant start playing god with something as vital and fundamental to our way of life as human rights.

I dont want to live in a world where sex criminals are killed or used in medical science. I want to live in a world where it doesnt exist atall or those that do offend in that way are conditioned never to do it again, but killing them or worse is far beyond the realms of justice and reason.

Im not sticking up for them, id never dream of such a thing, but I am thinking of the bigger picture and the consequences, which is what I meant from seperating logic and reason from emotion.

Thats what I meant libs! It sounds so much better when you say it though! :D

In my opinion phedos are not innocent and vulnerable like young children are, so no I don't feel that makes you as bad as them.

I appreciate what your saying, but I do feel they should be dealt with far more harshly than 4 years in jail :x
