Was just wondering in which position you gave birth or are planning to give birth?

I know I don't want to be on my back if I can avoid it. Apart from that I don't know which position I prefer. Must say they all look rather undignified. Oh well. :)

I gave birth standing up leaning over the bed! Wasn't planned that way just was more comfortable.. It worked for me, had no stitches and was out in 2 pushes :) xx

I ended in a section but while I was pushing I was on my back because I think the woman kept me strapped to a freaking monitor, I cant remember. Id say on all fours or standing or leaning over the top of the bed are good ones.

I knew I didnt want to be on the bed like that but it was all a bit sudden (she came to see if I was dilated enough for gas and air and it turned out I was 10cm :wall: ) so I just kind of stayed in the same position after she examined me and was too scared to move. Get your birth partner in on the positions you want to be in and ask them to help you. :)

I had an open mind with Adam and didnt really choose a positions for labour until i was actually in labour. I had Adam while i was on my back, i was more comfortable like this. I used just gas and air during labour and only had a graze. Im keeping an open mind this time too and im going to deliver in what ever position is more comfortable at the time.
I think your body has the final say what position is more comforatable at the time x x

I had to give birth on my back cos lo's heart rate was dropping and thay put me in that position to try relieve it. If is of got my way id of been on hands and knees but they forced me on my back.

I labored standing over the bed, I loved it, I was squatting and it was far easier to breathe through contractions.. MW asked me to hop onto the bed to examine me and insert a drip, I needed the G&A because the contractions were a lot worse when on my back.. I ended up giving birth on my side with my right leg being held up on the left hand side of the bed lol I was rocking and it helped massively! x

Thanks girls, great tips! I also want to keep an open mind, but it's good to know what other people found comfortable!

I hate to sit down it just makes the pain ten times worse to me, with my second I needed monitors as her heart rate was dipping so I went on all fours on the bed she shot out behind me then I nearly sat on her lol

I had to give birth on my back because I was induced. I always kept an open mind about it. When I was in early labour I just had to pace the floor and rock my hips lol. Tbh I hated having to be on my back for 14 hours but that was the way it had to be :)

I had to give birth lying on my back, i tried it leaning over the bed but Ava's heart rate dropped so they made me lie down.
I have to say she was out with in 10 minutes and i think because my legs were in the stirup (sp) things i had more support when pushing her out!
I felt really uncomfotable lying down before that but when it came to pushing it felt right but i didnt have a choice so i guess it had to!

I was planning to have her kneeling on the bed leaning on the back of the bed... But when push came to shove (lol, irony) I was stuck layed on my side cause was in too much pain to move... But that wasn't working so ended up on my back :wall2: xx

I was pretty much sat upright on the bed holding my knees up by my ears!

I gave birth on my back. I did want to give birth squatting or leaning over the bed but they wouldn't allow me to move. x

I would definitely push for standing up next time around, the pain wasn't as bad on my feet xx

Great thread......I had epiudural last time and was hooked to a million monitors etc. I had legs up in stirrups |I had no choice and it was super easy. This time around however my hospital does not do epidurals so I have no idea what I will do - suppose we all find what is best for us and then refuse to move lol

Lulu_Laroo wow never heard of this position before :) Interesting!

I gave birth to one on all fours, but with the other four I was on my back as I'd had so much G & A (and 3 epidurals with varying success) that I couldn't have moved without falling off the bed if I'd tried. I was, however, as happy as Larry........!

I was induced & given an epidural so I had to be lying.

But at my ante-natal class the MW said that the absolute best position is on all fours or leaning over the bed, as this is the most natural way for baby to come out, gravity wise. I'm defo gonna go for all fours or leaning on bed this time (if im able) - I suppose it must be silmilar to having to do a number 2 lyin down! loooool your body naturally wants to squat.

:)

Exactly! They kept saying to push as if I'm doing a poo and all I could think was 'well Ive never poo'd lying down so I don't really know what to do!'

hahaha love it.

The MW also told me she cant understand why most hospitals policy/what happens normally is to lie down. She said in alot of other countries your not allowed to lie down in labour
