I've seen adverts for pre packed maternity bags. You are right though, I have probably spent a large amount on items. xx

Do we even need a maternity bag? I've been told most women are in and out the same day

You probably don't need a huge amount, but things like maternity pads (and granny undies), breast pads, toiletries and change of clothes so you can shower before going home (and in case your waters break in the clothes you wore TO the hospital...), and then nappies, baby wipes and going home outfit/blanket for the little one. I've also put a camera in mine so we don't forget to bring it, and straws to make it easier for your partner to feed you water during labour. I just threw it all in my carry-on bag, with plenty room to spare.
