Was thinking I would share my labour story as I was so nervous and had bad previous experience with hospital in Norway refusing pain relief etc when I was induced with my first daughter!
Thursday 3 oclock I woke up with some period pain, thinking it was probably fake contractions, and didnt want to wake up my OH, so I watched some casino on tv lol and started to htink right this is getting regular.. I did a "online" contraction timer which u can ifnd online but it is on norwegian but i found it very helpful as it told me how long time its between contractions and how long they lasted.
So for me it went pretty quick from 5min to 4 min etc. So I woke up my OH and he was so excited and called hospital, they told me to have warm bath and take paraacetamol but feel free to come in anytime as its my second baby and it could end up quick.
I had 3 mins between contractions and they lasted 30 seconds (not very painful at all like period pains) and at hospital they checked me I was 4cm so it was real...
I wasnt panciking and some way i just managed to stay supercalm and positive, thinking it is important to breathe right through the contractions which i didnt find as painful as last time at all.. Then I decided to go in bathtub, took some gas and air (it helped me breathing through contractions) and we relaxed in the room.
7 oclock midwife checked me and I was 6cm. I felt still the same but the contractions were a little bit stronger and I started to feel a little anxious as what if the pains would be much stronger soon, the water hadnt broke yet either. So I got an injection around 8 oclock of pethedine and it made me feel a little bit funny but not too much, but most of all it relaxed me and it was great. So I could breathe through contractions and stay calm. I was suprised how smooth it went but 9 oclock they checked me again and I was still 6cm! So midwife broke water and I asked for epidural after that as the contraction came really strong then, but midwife said it wasnt possible and I was like OH NOOO its going be like last time. There was another lady with complications and I had to wait 1 hr or so if I wanted epidural and it cud be too late.. So I begged for epidural but midwife said she would check how dilated I was first and 9.30 she told me I was ready to push.. I was like what?? I dont feel anything!! apart from normal contractions, so I started to push and after a few times she came out perfect, I didnt rupture or anything and I was so confused... Sophia was perfect, she didnt cry but she was a bit drowsy after the pethedine they think. And I was so confused, what have I been worried about for 9 months?! This was great!!
I breastfed her straight after and it feels so natural she is very good at sucking and eating, and she is just perfect, Iremember being worry about her nose (embarresed!!) because of scan pics!! But she got the cutest nose in world and I feel like the silliest mum in the world, worrying for nothing for 9 months!! Just so grateful how much support one get at hospital in this country and midwifes are lovely.
I went home 7 hrs later same day, feel absolutely fine xx
So to you who are worried or feeling anxious about giving birth,, its importnt to talk to midwife about it and dont feel bad asking for painrelief!!! Xxx
Luckily I didnt get epidural then as it could have slowed down the labour and I after all managed fine without it !
