MMR jab?!

My little man had his all in one go, and this little will too when the time comes.
We have a bit of an issue over here in NZ with measles epidemics due to people NOT immunizing their children, and there have been deaths and children left horribly damaged as a result.... So it's something that I feel quite strongly about.
Whether you do it all in one, or separately is up to you, TBH, having jabs is never fun for the kiddies, whether it's one at a time or all in one go , so I think if you can get it over with for them quicker then it.s a little easier on the poor mites:)

Anyway, only you can make the final call, so have a good think and do what YOU feel best x

Agree.
Humans are a herd in theory, hence how worldwide immunisation can eradicate nasty diseases. xxx

Though i absolutely refuse for this to be any sort of competition, in the name of information i have to state that I know of 2 children whose behaviour and language spiraled into full-blown autism within 24 hours of having the MMR and i also know very well a child who was diagnosed with autism before receiving the MMR, became better through alternative methods (e.g diet and homeopathy) and then regressed suddenly when given the MMR booster jab.

There are many issues for and against, there are many ways to go about things, its not one or the other

you can delay

you can have the vaccines seperately

you can selectively vac seperately

you can check out your child personally for a while and then make a decision

or you can do the full MMR

it is TOTALLY up to you :)

I have never HAD to research these things, but i chose to spend many years (even a year before Jasper was born) solidfying my thoughts on them after watching my friends struggle so much with their own children and the problems they had.

I think its great that your even thinking about it, unfortunately there is no right or wrong answer but you will find your way xxx

Human beings are NOT a herd, we are far more like gorillas who never roam in herds than we are like cattle. When a doctor immunizes a herd, he does so in the knowledge that a few will be lost/damaged. Each child, is important and deserves to be viewed and acknowledged SEPERATELY, it will be no comfort to a mother if her child is one of the 5% that suffer that the other 95% are sorted.

The idea, that is perpetuated that human beings are 'just a herd' is abbhorant to me, each human childs like is important and worth considering, sacrifice for a 'herd' should NOT come into it.

Are you going to argue every point I make on this forum? I'm finding it quite funny actually.
I find a lot of your views abhorrent.
I obviously don't mean herd as a literal description. But yes in many many medical lectures and journals and teachings that I have read and heard during my training, we are likened to a herd in the sense that the actions of a few effect the race as a whole. I think you need to do more research love.

A) I did not say 'just a herd'
B) I did not mention losing a few or whatever rubbish you are implying I have said.
It really weakens your argument when you start twisting my words.

Oh and btw, a dr doesn't immunise a herd, a vet does ;)

I meant farmer not doctor lol! Don't start getting personal cg! Having a difference of opinion is okay but saying you find my opinions abbhorant isn't very nice really is it. I have watched a number of my friends struggle due to illnesses they swear were caused by mmr so of course its important to me to give my opinion. It really is absolutely nothing personal to do with you. To suggest so is frankly arrogance and nothing more.

But it's ok for you to say my views are abhorrent, double standards much?
Anyway, doesn't really worry me what you think of my views tbh, I have an abundance of real life experience with children struggling with measles and mumps, nasty stuff. I've made my views over years of experience in a children's hospital and I'm happy with that.

Anyway, back to the op. do your research, be comfortable with your actions, maybe talk to your gp or hv, they often give wonderful advise xx

I said I found the idea that humans are a herd abbhorant, not a phrase you coined first. Your reading into things far too much. I would much rather just talk about the issue at hand than get involved in this petty ness. I think we should both accept we have differing views on a number of topics and discuss them if they come up. There is no nerd for point scoring or one up man ship.

Sorry guys! Didn't mean to cause this! :-( although I knew it was a contraverrsal subject!! Thanks so much again for the advice and support! I have a few weeks yet and can always delay like u said if still not sure!
My friends brother was fine until he had MMR and then suffered brain damage so she's adiment she's not having her little girl done! For me I obviously don't want him to get the diseases and would feel terribly guilty if he did but also if something was to happen after the jab, how do u live with yourself knowing u made the decision? I will speak to HV and do some research on the net because I was a bit ignorant about the diseases and dragonfly u brought up some interesting points, well u both did haha xx

There is a thread somewhere - maybe ib alternative parenting about the single jabs x

This is from NHS website:

MMR and autism

There has been some controversy about the MMR vaccine and autism following a study published in 1998 by Dr Andrew Wakefield. He claimed that his initial findings appeared to show a link between the MMR vaccine and autism and bowel disease.
However, Andrew Wakefield’s work has since been completely discredited. Subsequent studies during the last eight years have found no link between the MMR vaccine and autism or bowel disease.

it actually states on the contraindications of the MMR, that it has been known to cause autoimmunity disorders in a small portion of people. These include MS and ME

Even if you completely disregard andrew wakefield. there are still reasons to strongly consider wether or not your child would be suitable for the MMR as a complete vaccine x

Mmm I'm also a bit dubious about studies and government - they only tell u what u want to know! But thanks will have a read x

i belive whole heartedly there is no link between the mmr vaccine and autism its just sadly children with autism start to display autistic traits around the time they are immunised against MMR amelia will be having her MMR jab and just follow ur heart x

Then why not wait a year?

I think Inky decided to go private and got them done individually and she said it was thebest money she ever spent.

I decided I wanted LO to have all the jabs but didn't feel it was necessary for her to have all 3 at once so had to 2 done and the mmr done seperately about a month after. None of them had any effect on her and Im glad she's had them :)
