Ladies doing IVF or IUI - 2015 (9 BFPs!)

Thanks ladies!

So, I went in and was in the same bed as before (uh oh!). Only three of us were there for transfers. The embryologist went to the couple at the end first and told theme what great embryos they had and how they all survived. Us other two couples were left waiting which I didn't feel was good, but DH said I wouldn't be geared up for theatre if I had none left.

Then the embryologist went to the couple next to us. They had the scratch and used the embryoscope, like us, and we're next to us for egg collection. They had 12 (!) fertilise but today there were only 4 left. They didn't look any older than us (although she did say on a number of occasions how she had had a cosmetic procedure, so maybe she was older than she looked). The embryoscope also picked up some issues. :-( I was really beginning to lose hope.

Eventually they came to us. 5 of the 6 survived and the other one was nearly at blastocyst so they are going to continue to culture it and see how it gets on! She said all were good quality (A or B) so the metformin must be working. They transferred one and the rest (4 at the moment but could be 5) will be frozen

This means I won't have to go through egg collection again if this cycle doesn't work, thank goodness :-) xx couldn't be happier or more optimistic right now xxx

That's a perfect outcome, brilliant! What does Metformin do again?
BTW its not great that they told you all the results in front of each other! What if the news was bad! We were always told once we were in the operating room.

The metformin is for insulin resistance which is the root cause of PCOS. PCOS causes your hormones to be messed up and eggs to be poor quality.

The curtains were around the beds when they told us and they tried to speak quietly but you could still hear. There was a sign saying if you weren't happy with it that way then to say.

I will be testing on the 4th and going in to do that. We might do a HPT before that depending on how I feel, not sure yet. Xx

Great Phonixgirl, perfect outcome! Hope everything goes smoothly and you get your BFP soon :)!!

Brilliant news Phonixgirl. I'm rooting for your bfp.

Blueflower - I spoke to Laura on Friday (iI think she's the patient Liason person) and she was really happy. Congratulated me again and again and gave me some advice on what to do next and what not to eat/do.
Booked my scan the and then too.
When's your appointment? Is it at The Lister? xx

It must be lovely to give them good news, its horrible having to say it was negative every time and crying down the phone!

Our appointment is next Thursday at the Lister yes, I went on Fertility Friends today for more info on CGH results and someone was saying that sometimes they can throw away good embryos when all the other cells were ok and it was just the one they tested that was abnormal! Maybe that's why our consultant doesn't like it?

Not sure if I have already asked this ...
But at your first fertility referral appointment did yous find out there and then if you would get funding, or at least what your chances would be? Or didnyou have to wait for a letter?

Thanks :)

Hi we were told straight away but had to fill out loads of paper work before going into the appointment x

Fx phonixgirl xxx

Littledalla - we had to wait for our application to be reviewed then it was rejected and we had to appeal. It took about 6 weeks I think xxx

LittleDalla - we were told straight away.

Those of you who have been through IVF before, how did you change your diet post-transfer? I've been on low sugar and low (bad) carb for ages anyway but my acupuncturist told me to stop carbs completely now, together with dairy. So, high protein (chicken or fish) with lots of veg. And of course pineapple which we have yet to get and Brazil nuts. But I forgot to ask if stopping carbs completely included complex carbs? I guess it does.

This morning I struggled for breakfast. I ended up eating toast using seeded bread which I hope will be ok. I can't think this would affect things massively as the white carbs are the really bad ones (which I don't like anyway). And lots of ladies get pregnant on alcohol and drugs, never mind carbs! Xx

I think just eat healthily, no mayonnaise or runny eggs, no unpasteurised cheese, no alcohol, little or no caffeine, plenty of protein, fruit & veg and try to eat warm food if possible. You need some carbs, aren't you slim as well? Acupuncturists can be a bit over the top! What about scrambled eggs for breakfast? Or natural yogurt with warmed frozen raspberries?

Thanks Blueflower. Scrambled eggs are a good idea (and the others). I think healthy eating is the main thing and avoiding all the foods you said.

Yes, I am slim - even more so since being on the metformin!

Thank you ladies. We are hoping we get an answer on Tuesday then hopefully I will be able to join yous officially :)

Definitely rooting for your BFP Phonix :D
