Ladies doing IUI or IVF - 2016 (11 BFPs so far!)

Hey girls, sorry I didn't message yesterday! thank you for all the luck, it really does mean a lot.

its was an odd appointment....

so first bit first. The ivf nurse I saw was lovely! Really helped hubs and I feel at ease, was friendly and quite chatty. It didn't feel as bad as I was expecting, so huge plus there! Shes now confirmed I will be on the short protocol - which I guessed I would anyway (as at the group session last month they told us that 99.9% of pcos ladies did the short course)

now, onto the weird bit....

They couldn't confirm any drug dosages with me at all. apparently my FSH and my AMH tests have come back totally different. The FSH showed low egg reserve (which is what my consultant told me) but my AMH is 38.... which according to the nurse means that I have more eggs that I should but may mean they are poorer quality? so I went and had another blood test done, so that they can work out which result is more likely and which drugs and dosages i'll be on.

She said the blood test will take about 2-3 weeks for results, so unlikely i'll start in August now. she told me to hope for September but will likely be October.... feel a bit deflated really.

sending huge hugs to you all ladies!

at least its Wednesday so half way through the week!

xx

Finally got my period! So starting shots tomorrow! Exciting!

Tinsel, that sounds really wires, isn't fsh the quality-of-eggs-hormone? It's nice to hear that you met a nice nurse and that they're making the plan perfect for you guys even tho ists a bit longer wait. Better with a good stim than a not accurate one, right? <3

tigerpaws - that's exciting that you're finally starting tomorrow! huge fingers crossed for you!

yea it was totally confusing but im pleased that they'd rather take their timeto figure out 100% what we need than give us the standard and hope for the best!

No blood test can determine quality of the eggs, just an idea of what's left.
Ladies with pcos can have high AMH results from what I have read due to the excess follicles/cysts but they don't always contain an egg (this is from what I have read over the years). Have you had an antral follicle count scan?
It's always best to have the clearest picture of everything to start off to give you the best chance possible x

Like lisey says, if you're polycystic then you will have high AMH scores. My first one was in the high thirties. You are more at risk for OHSS so they may start you off on a much lower dose of stimms to start with and ramp up if they feel it's safe/you need more. I had some level of ohss after getting pregnant on Third ivf attempt and it was like my insides were being crushed and incredibly painful, so they are right to be cautious!

hey lisey and tinsel, thank you for your messages. you both make sense. I think yesterday was such a blurr for us. obviously the nurse was lovely but maybe we didn't take everything in.... I've not had the follicle scan, not something I think they will offer just yet, well, not something they have offered at any rate. so just have to plod on for now and see what happens next.

hope you're both ok today x

good luck tigerpaws!! thinking of you!

katie - sounds like you're making progress, even if it feels slow! x

good luck tigerpaws! hope you're feeling ok!

I had a call from my consultant yesterday, because of the two bloods being so different, shes putting me on a course of metaformin. I'm still going to have IVF but she wants me to do this first to help prevent OHSS. so, I definitely wont start in August, which Is a bit of a bummer, may be September if they feel my bodies taking to the metaformin ok.

Happy Friday gang! hope you all have lovely weekends x

katie88 - your entire body plays a role in the success of IVF, so being in a hurry might not bring positive results.

Hi Miamia,

Yes I understand that and am doing everything in my power to get my whole body ready but I think every long termer feels the same when you're told you have to wait or push it back. Its just hard to take in, when at one appointment your told one thing and then at another appointment told something else.

Katie, I wish I had waited to start metformin before I did my first IVF cycle xx

Logging on for the first time in a long while to see how everyone is getting on. CCW, Tinsel, so sorry for the bfns. It's crap.

Tiger, sounds like you're in the middle of an IVF cycle. Unfortunately you're absolutely right, when you've been through what we all have it's impossible to relax in pregnancy. I'm currently 21 weeks with a donor egg and can honestly say I've been terrified on the lead up to every single scan, including the 20 week scan. I do perhaps feel slightly more relaxed now that the 20 week scan was all ok but still automatically on knicker watch every single time I go to the loo. On the one hand desperate to start feeling proper movement but on the other hand terrified in case I get constantly paranoid about whether it's enough movement or the right movement... Do you have anyone that does fertility reflexology near you? I always found that more relaxing than acupuncture.

Good luck to everyone else cycling, about to cycle, trying naturally etc. As mentioned above I'm now 21 weeks and everything is looking perfect. Using donor eggs is a big decision and definitely not to be taken lightly but it felt easy for me, it was the only way I was going to have a baby and I honestly couldn't care less if s/he looks like me. I truly don't think I would feel any different right now if it was my own egg, other than perhaps a bit more stressed as more can go wrong with an older egg.

So many good wishes for you all x

Delighted to hear your great news Syd xx

Ok, so I had my first us check-up, I have to get bloodwork done before my next appt as they're concerned about ohss. Can't stop stims either because my little Eggies aren't big enough for retrieval yet. Have a new us tomorrow morning. I was really gutted and cried a lot on my way from the hospital yesterday.

Hi tigerpaws - don't panic yet, the blood test may just be precautionary? I had loads of them done for my first 3 rounds of IVF and the egg collection went ahead fine in all of them. Sending you good vibes though! Just keep eating lots of protein (4 eggs a day recommended!!), drinking plenty of water, getting your vitamin D and multi-vitamins, and some brazil nuts if you can. The eggies need all the help they can to keep growing xx Even if you do develop OHSS (and I hope you don't), once they get the eggs you still have the opportunity for a frozen cycle xxx Wishing you all the best xxxx

Thanks Tinselcat.. it's so hard to even think straight now, I'm so afraid of my appointment.
I think the blood tests are precautionary, hope so. I didn't do them the last time. I'm still scared out of my mind, feels like every time I lower my guard and hope for the best in this process, it's working against me. I'm terrified that the quality will be as bad as the last time.

I'm so unbelievably tired, haven't slept properly, and it's really the worst feeling to be away from hubby right now, he is meeting up with me tonight, and staying til after retrieval, if I do get a transfer I have to do it by myself.

If I dont get a fresh I do hope we get a few frozen. They only freeze blastos, so that's a good thing..

22eggs out, they'll call me upcoming Monday to let me know fertilisation and how many frozen.
Retrieval was almost painless, and since I was prepared for a full freeze cycle, I'm fine about it. When I dont get transfer anyway, I can chuck down on pain killers after the retrieval the next couple days. My endometriosis hates me, so pain killers are my friends!
I called the transporting agency at 12 and they put me on a plane at 1745, so were home, in our own beds <3

Wow, 22 eggs, that's a lot! I can see why they had to intervene on the OHSS side. I hope you recover quickly and you get some good news about fertilisation - keep us posted if you can! We're here to support xx

22 eggs is amazing tigerpaws! keeping everything crossed for you! x
