How long before you voice your opinion?

I always hate rules so do things as I see fit! lol

I personally posted when there was something I wanted to say! Didn't wait until I had been a memebr for so long or anything..... but then didn;t go out of my way to make any particular statement either.....

If there are posts on here that I disagree with I will say so but hopefully they wouldn't be read in a nasty way afterall the forum is here as a method of support.......

I have read posts on here that I thought were out of order or just being nasty and I ignored them - I think you have to do this or you end up getting in to nasty fights/arguments. Like has been said on here already there can be a lot of things misinterpreted........ and I have read things wrong in the past! lol

There is no time limit - I think someone should post on the day they joined if they have something to say. But if people wish to 'lurk' then that's OK too - I'm sure a lot of people people get a lot of useful information and indirect support just by reading posts and I'm sure when these people feel confident enough to post then they will.

I prefer honestly like if I ask someone their opinion, not for them to lie to me and say something positive if they don't agree, otherwise there is no point asking in the first place. It's hard on-line to get emotions across though as you aren't hearing the tone of the persons voice or seeing their reaction.

Claire - if I can be blunt (and at the risk of becoming very unpopular very quickly!), some of your posts can be a little offensive and hurtful. You judge people as illiterate simply because they their spelling may be inaccurate but this is a forum - what rule says people need to bother being careful with their spellings when making posts? You are a literacy teacher so are trained in this area - your spelling and grammar should be perfect. I'm a qualified accountant but I don't judge people as innumerate or ill-educated because their numeracy skills aren't as advanced as mine.

I say this only because you're now on here seeking approval and justifying these comments on the grounds that you can't communicate 'tone' on a written note, but I don't think in the cases I refer to above that there was any ambiguity in tone or message intended.

I think it's usually possible to avoid offending people on here if people think about what they are writing.

I'm not trying to start an argument here, but am writing as I find, as you've requested. The majority of your posts that I have read are supportive and helpful, so I don't understand why occasionaly you feel the need to lash out at people.

That's all from me, other than to say if I need help with spelling I know where to come..!!

Merry Christmas Everyone xx

I couldn't have said it any better myself littlebump, so I won't bother!

Little Bump I completely agree with your comments, and would like to add that as a teacher LC you wouldn't mock and ridicule your pupils for getting things wrong and that should remain the same for this forum.

I dont think theres any "netiqutte" that dictates forum behaviour

Fabulous word - I love it when words are adapted like that!!

I appreciate what you say LittleBump, my sister tells me off too for critisizing then calls me the next minute for help as she's bad with spelling and grammar. I know I should just bite my tongue, it just annoys me sometimes when it's the same words over and over that people get wrong, I wonder where they came from. At least here isn't full of 'txt cht', that makes me want to scream!

I agree with littlebump, i couldnt put it better! I think your signature says it all about how you hate spelling mistakes claire! But sometimes it really just doesnt matter if someone says 'alot' rather than 'a lot'! Its kinda petty tbh! And i think in starting this post you are looking for some kind of approval or agreement in an arguement with another/many member/s. If you have an issue with a particular, then the best way is PM as i have a feeling this thread is going to escalate!
And being a pregnant woman with a hyper 2 year old, i may not spell correctly at times (pregnancy brain or trying to settle kids) and i find it irritating how people can pick on the little things that just dont matter!
This is not an attack or debate etc.. just my opinion on this thread! And we have abbreviations on forums as its quicker and easier to type 3 letters than 3 long words! Text chat can be annoying if the full post is made up of it but the odd word isnt that bad!
I just really dont see the need for this thread!
I think a person can feel free to post whenever they like no matter when they joined etc.. but i think that youve had an arguement and want people to agree on your behalf against this member, and thats the true meaning of this. Please just sort it out by yourselves rather than make it public. I like to have my opinion on things too as you can tell, but i wont point out everyones faults!

Merry xmas to all! :)

I don't appreciate you assuming why I started this thread as you're totally wrong. The reason I did was because I looked at the member list and noticed there are thousands of members who've never posted, even who joined over a year ago but haven't been deleted.

Ok, ive just clicked on that link in your signature and i find it unnecessary! Im sorry but it being called the '******ed way' to say 'a lot' and being called a 'f*cking moron' just isnt nice!!

Thanks, been suggested to me that as I haven't been a member as long as some I shouldn't give my opinion but I didn't read in the rules of a time limit so thought I'd just ask.
Sorry, that post gave me the impression.. apologies if im wrong.

No problem. I just think it's misleading when you look at how many members there are, members to me are people who join in. Delete them now! :rotfl:

Some forums I am a member of send out a monthy email to everyone which I think is a great idea. Not more than that as it can be annoying but a good idea as some forget when they've joined a forum and it can encourage some to come back.

I dont see the prob with people just reading posts for piece of mind. And only post once or twice.. but thats just me

So who suggested you couldnt give your opinion coz you havent been on long enough/posted enough?
Coz i cant think of anyone just saying that for no apparent reason
I think even someone who's just joined has the right to say their veiw as does a long term member as long as its not offensive etc.

I think that it is unkind to suggest that people who don't want to post due to whatever reason should be deleted, they are not causing anyone any harm, and if they come on here to seek reassurance quietly then why the hell not - comments like yours would just put people off.

Yes because she PMed me as such. Yes I am sure Keely as it was you kidda.

People who join and never post are usually called lurkers. ;) Forums I think are so much better than other sites such as LIM because you do get to know people rather than them just being another profile but if they don't join in then you don't. You can read threads here without being a member I thought. No point in joining if you aren't interesting in contributing, just my opinion.

I agree with Jo,,

******ed  I sincerely hope you do not regard people who make spelling mistakes ******ed - for all you know there could be people on this forum with dyslexia or any number of learning difficulties and I am sure they do not appreciate your cruel link.

and my opinion was you dont PM people messages of a nasty nature. If you have nothing nice to say, dont PM them keep it to yourself.

Its is a pregnancy and baby forum after all not a debate forum

Nothing was ever mentioned that u can not post if your new, just u should not post HORRIBLE posts
