How are all you new mummies doing?

Hopefully it doesn't affect Macie much x Hayley gets hers at 2pm, I feel sick to my stomach with nerves

I'm abit worried about weaning, I was invited to a weaning appointment and they said not to feed baby anything until 6 months as their digestive system can't handle it, they only need milk. But then I'm seeing things saying you can feed at 4 months? So it's abit confusing.. Hayleys body is still pretty wobbly when trying to sit up, so once she's stronger will see how much milk she's eating and see if she shows any signs of weaning

My HV told me to not wean before 6 months, as there is a link to chrons disease with early weaning. I don't know how much evidence based research there is to support claims, but I will be waiting until 6 months. x

My health visitor told me it's going back to 4 months again soon. We're on day 3 of weaning and he's been in good sorts.

He definitely likes food better than milk and his body is reacting well to it so far

Day 3 of weaning.
Carrot parsnip and apple is a winner, as is strawberry and apple, sweet potato, broccoli and carrot is NOT so far.

ATM were buying pouches (checking you can freeze first obviously!) and using 1/3 a sachet. We're freezing 2 sachets at a time in containers and alternating days. ATM were on carrot, parsnip and apple one say then strawberry and apple
The next. Hi gave him a spoon to hold whist feeding (thanks for the idea toria) and he won't let it go lol. He can actually gy the spoon into his mouth too. He likes his spoon lol

Jojo I can't believe your HV would say such a thing without official guidance being released! She's potentially placed luke & her job at risk by doing so.

I wonder what the difference is in the research from now & then is? I know they have the ability to do stuff now what they couldn't 10 yrs ago but the majority of us will have been weaned earlier than 6 months & how many people have crohns?

SIL does have crohns but developed it in her twenties & she's been told by her consultants that they don't know what causes it!

It wasn't actually mine, mine has had surgery and can't drive so it was a replacement doing her house calls, but I was surprised she said it. Luke isn't putting much weight on with formula and his head control is great and he's showing signs so we/ started.

I prefer weaning at 4months rather than going to self feeding at 6 months as I feel like I want him to build up textures (which is apparently why they're going to change it) I was weaned at 4 months- my brother was weaned at 2.5 months, and that was the rule then. (4 months - nit 2.5 lol) We're fine - I do t know anybody at all with chrons. Everything changes so often it's insane!

Random question from my friend who's just had a baby 3 days ago by c section / can she have a bath? She's struggling to feed and her milks come in I suggested a bath and hand express?

Bath with no products in, ( it may sting a little) make sure to pat dry. I was told to soap mine up and rinse... I had staples in so may be different with stitches.

Thanks jojo!

Maddie has had her jabs, cried when they were done but smiled pretty much straight after at us and is now just cuddling and sleeping with me on the sofa so hopefully she reacts the same as last time as she just slept all day then but then was fine. Fingers crossed!

Just back from Hayley getting her jags done and so far it has been miles better than last time. she cried, took a little bit of milk and then her dummy. Which she soon spat out and sat pretty content.

We had to stay for 20 mins after with cold compresses on it as they were worried incase she got a haematoma again this time, thankfully all looks fine and theres not non-stop crying. So having a little lie down and shes watching her toys

There always seems to be conflicting information regarding everything to do with babies! I think I'll try and leave the weaning til as close to 6 months as I can. I don't think Hayley will be ready at 4 months anyways as she can't sit on her own and gets tired holding her head after a while so sometimes it's abit floppy

My cheeky little monkey sticking out her tongue! She's pretty content after these jags, smiling and talking away to her toys I'm so relieved, hopefully it continues

Weaning is such a heated debait isn't it! So many pro 4+ months despite guidelines etc - I think it's each to their own?

I just don't get the urge to push weaning on Oscar right now - he is interested in what I put to my mouth, wants to grab it. Has fantastic head control and hand to eye co ordination but that doesn't mean I want to start weaning. He's happy on milk and I want to do it properly 1 flavour at a time etc - he may show lots of signs but at just 4 months I think he's still so young!

I'm looking forward to making all my veg stocks and freezing some cubes of food for him to try in the next month or so

I hope they don't put it back to 4 months - I wouldn't of thought they would do with so much research against pre 6 months - from searching forums etc lots of people have said for years it will change back and it hasn't

There's a girl from my town flooding the TV/media ATM - she's the girl who took photo of herself with her bag as she has crohns - she's a complete bitch apparently - has a bad reputation locally but anyway moving on.....

Yeah - I'm weaning Oscar between 5 and 6 months - only because he is starting nursery and I want to get him familiar with 'eating routines' etc - if he's not interested I won't push it - just wanted to try get him used to stage 1

Same. I think it's one of those take all the advice and research you can but at the end of the day do what suits you and your baby topics! I personally will be trying to start around beginning of September when she'll be about 20weeks so we have 6 weeks for her to try things ahead of our holiday in October. I want to make sure we're used to some foods rather than be right in the middle of starting and then go on holiday and she's definitely going to need food before we go no way I could wait til after we're back as she'll be nearly 7 months by then

Isabelle is 4 months this week and has only in the last few weeks got breastfeeding sorted so in no hurry to stop yet. She's not got any of the signs that she's ready to wean either so I have no intention of starting anytime soon. We're going to do baby led so we'll trust her to tell us when she's ready.

I agree it's each to their own but no way should a HV be giving that info out when there's no official guidance released.

It sounds like Jojo made the decision herself but imagine if someone was relying on info from the HV before making that decision

I started weaning Joseph at 4 months old with little bits of baby rice after seeing his dietician. I think it is personal choice. The information I got from the dietician was that she would say to start weaning when the baby starts chewing on their fists (just as Joseph was chewing his hand off and when they start taking notice of food). I think it is total personal choice. 4 months was right for my LO but for another LO 6 months would be better. I think it all depends on the LO. I agree with iWitch though it has to be personal choice. Health visitors shouldn't be saying that. Joseph's dietician didn't tell me to wean him she skirted around it and hinted but that was it. She left ot up to me x

I can't remember who was part of the discussion regarding cervical smears but I'm sure it was in this thread.

My first smear showed CIN3 abnormal changes in the cells & I had to have treatment. They got rid of the cells & have me the all clear & put me on a 3 yearly recall.

I've had my smear a little later due to having Austin but to the person who asked; my results came back normal so no biopsy or treatment required :D

Yes it was. Think it was Sophie. I got my 3 year recall the week I found out I was pregnant. Go said to wait till 6 months pp, but it was on my mind a lot so I went when Emma was 3 months. All came back fine too :-)

Honestly ladies I am loosing it. LO went to sleep in his bouncer after his bottle. He has been asleep for just over an hour. Just suddenly had a panic and had to check he was breathing. Honestly I am pathetic x

Why 6m pp? My GP told me 12 weeks...I delayed it further which was naughty of me considering my previous results...

Guidelines said 4 months when I had my first and second babies, but like others said its personal choice. My older two needed solids by the time they hit 4 months. Emma's a bit different. I'm not full on weaning, just giving her a taster every now and then. Just don't want to get to holiday time and all or a sudden she needs it and were in a foreign country spending my whole time weaning.

If your babies a happy on milk then stick with it, much easier.

That's interesting about the Chrohns disease. My sister has it quite severely, she had a colostomy bag fitted when she was mid 20's. Anyway her consultant said it was genetic even though no one else in the family have had it. I was sure it had to do with her dodgy diet. She only ate white bread, peanut butter and chicken breast meat till she was 7 or 8. And now in her 30's she's still not much better.

Hayley has just started chewing on my hand, had my arm around her with hand on her tummy sitting her on my knee.

Doubt i'd be able to tell when Hayleys ready for food by chewing her hands as she always has her hands in her mouth lol

He said just to let my hormones settle otherwise it would likely come back with abnormal cells, and I'd need to have a second smear. I looked it up and it said 3 months, so just booked it
