FAO ANYONE who has ever had a bank charge

i have just been told that there is a new ruling and if the bank closes your account they have to pay you £200 in compensation.

I hope you're right cos mine shut my account, Im waiting for them to get in touch as I appealed against it.

OH's bank (Lloyds TSB) are just messing him about. They wrote to him saying they'd pay it all back into his account within 10 days and stop all charges due to come out so we thought 'wow that was easy' and we were happy with their repsonse.

The money didnt go in though and they took a charge out that was supposed to be cancelled. OH has spent hours on the phone to them and got nowhere so I wrote a letter for him yesterday and said he's taking them to court as they cant just treat people like that :x

I have just had a reply from barclays.

I had written saying they owe me around £1200 + £200 interest and they had 14 days to respond. So in the letter they said sorry you feel you've had to complain, blah blah, they will look into it and respond by the 24th april.

Do i wait till then or reply to them saying if they don't settle i'll take them to court?

Thanks
Laura

Hiya hun, I got a letter like that too and thought they were just buying time but I didnt get round to doing anything for a few weeks and they did actually write back within the time they promised. Its your choice I suppose, if you want to wait then wait but if not, write to them and tell them you're going ahead with a court claim :)

Had bank statements for my OH's account today, im so shocked didnt think we had been charged that much  but it totals around £1200

How long does it usually take for them to respond and get the money (if its straight forward)? Its Natwest bank.

Well i'm just about to send my letter asking for my statements as i have just been charged with a £35 unpaid DD and the girl behind the counter said there was nothing she could do about that even after i had said that £12 was the limit, don't care if they close my account as due to their incompetence 12 months ago money went out of my account that my ex owed out to them but as there was no money in his account the decided to take it from mine (i had split with him 4 years earlier too and even went back to my maiden name)

So much for Lloyds TSB, will never bank with them again :x :x :x

Has anyone successfully claimed against ABBEY and if so, did they close your bank account there?

I have been with Abbey about 5 years, and am currently using my overdraft, I don't want to claim if it means risking them closing my account (and wanting all the overdraft back!). It'd be bad timing what with me finishing work in 8 weeks.

Thanks to anyone who responds with experience on ABBEY.

I feel your pain hun.... I hate the way they decide to nick money off us when they feel like it

hi, i've sifted thru quite a few of the replies on here, just wanted to say thanks for postin this i'm goin to sort it out now as they seem to charge us all the time, the only thing i'm worried about is them closing my account, my husband said his mate at work got his money back but they closed his account?

i bank with lloydstsb and apart from these bloody charges i'm really happy with my banking, does anyone know if lloyds will close my account??

thanks in advance for any help

Don't know if they will for sure but i do understand how you feel about lloyds i have been with them for about 17 yrs and till last year i had never had any problems with them i would praise them to all my family and friends but since they took money from my account when it should have gone from someone else's that even had a different surname to me, my opinion of them has now reached the gutter and i will never bank with them again once i've sorted out their butts lol

Ive sent off for mine too with halifax! Ive seen this thread so many times but didnt read it as i didnt think it would apply to me, soooo glad i read it now!!!! Thanks so much for posting it! The consumer action group website is really really helpful as well, would definately recommend having a good read of it as they offer a lot of advice

is the 40 days, 40 working days, or just 40 calendar days including weekends.

I think mine worked out as 40 calender days......

If i remeber rightly...

Sent off my letter just 1/2 an hour ago, asking for my statements for the past 6 years! Its going to take some twraling through, but I just know its going to be worth it!

to be on the safe side, open a new account with another bank incase they do decide to close your account, though barclays didnt close mine, or take my overdraft off me or ask for my loan to be paid in full so i doubt it happens very often

Had letter from hsbc, usual sorry to hear you are not happy with our service, we will look into your issues blah blah. They have 23 days left

Hiya,

Well i got a letter from barclays friday. They said they'd deal with 'my complaint' by 24th april so i was actually surprised they did!

They offered me £915!

I wanted about £1200 But asked for £1450 with interest to scare them.

They said that although they disagree with my complaint, blah blah blah they were offering me 915 as a goodwill gesture.

I think i'll take it as then it will be in my bank in 10 days and really need it at mo!
