FAO ANYONE who has ever had a bank charge

Ok, ive printed all my statements.. what shall i do now..
I dont want my bank to shut down my account tho, coz its the only place i can get credit card and i need it! Its nationwide

I've had enough of all this shit with the banks now, we were meant to be going out today to buy a few more things for the baby but we cant now cos OH's bank have just taken £100 worth of charges out of his bank.

How do they get away with causing people so much stress

 kirsty, I agree, I don't know why they are free to cause this upset, it must cause so many problems for people, and when customers are getting it back in the end anyway, what's the point in it all??
 Kirsty

Damn bank!! Gonna start court proceeding today......got a letter from lloyds tsb saying -

"we are writing to update you with where we are with your complaint - blah blah - sorry to say that despite our best efforts we have been unable to resolve [your concerns]."

and the best bit:

"we will write to you again within the next four weeks, either with our response to your complaint, or with an estimate of when you can expect it".

Well - I think they are trying to drag it out - not having that!! Gonna go to moneyclaim online now......the b*st*rds!

Jo (Jayceesmumma)- Write a letter to the bank (use the template at the start of the thread) requesting that they refund all charges unfairly deducted from your account. Give them 14 days to respond. I have only known Alliance & Leicester close down accounts, mine & now Kirsty's!! But I don't know about Nationwide?

this was also on the news the other day saying that banks think its acceptable to close your account if you re claim charges, the financial ombudsman was having a fit about it, theyre not supposed to do that, ive been lucky though and not had any further problems with barclays since i claimed,

sending stage one letter omorrow im gonna get the B*stards! but im also going to open a new account tomorrow too just incase i need it

HSBC sent my cheque back with a letter saying they will send statements and they note I didn't ask for them :?

I sent them the standard letter saying...

"I am writing to request a fully comprehensive list of all the default charges for direct debit, unauthorised overdrafts and standing orders I have paid over the last six years.

Please find enclosed a cheque for the maximum statutory charge of £10. If you are unable to provide this data, I will accept a copy of my statements going back six years; I understand that statements on their own are not covered by the Data Protection Act 1998, yet I’m not requesting the statements per se, but the charges, which I’m entitled to by law.

I look forward to your response within 40 days, as HSBC is obliged to reply under the Data Protection Act. If not I shall seek remedy from the Information Commissioner.

Yours faithfully"

Do you think they are stalling? I need to chase up the statements as they havent sent them yet and I reckon they owe me over a grand.

My stage one letter is waiting to be posted... but I keep forgetting

Has anyone claimed with Natwest? Successful or not? Did they close the account?

Yes you can, I'm waiting for my Barclaycard statements.

Had another letter back from lloyds today saying....blah blah blah....we can't refund your charges as they were made to cover our costs blah, blah, blah........if you are unhappy please let us know:

Oh ok then.......

I was going to start the court claim last week but left the breakdown of charges on my desk at work :wall: then forgot :wall:

So I'll be def starting the claim within the next week :cheer:

Statements have started to arrive, got 3 years worth so far.

Ive noticed that they have charged me £30 per returned DD plus interest plus they have added "total charges" and charged me again. Thing is the £30 each returned DD they have NEVER sent me a letter so cant even claim administration fees as they made no administration. They have also charged me numerous times for "Card misuse" up to £90 a DAY and I havent even used my card. There are returned DD's which they charge me £30 then they charge me between £10-£30 for card misuse. WTF is that about :x

One particularly bad period when I was leaving my ex husband they hammered me over £500 in 2 months. Talk about kick you when you're down.

When youre working out how much to claim back do you also include the interest they charge? I see they charge a whacking great rate yet when Ive been in credit by several thousand they've given me a paltry 21p

i am just using a claim company to get mine bk, they do all the work on a no win no fee babis u just give them the account number.

i wouldnt personally pay anyone to do it for me when theyll take a cut of the money you get back its simple enough to do it yourself, if you follow the advice ive given and that on the consumer action website

yep it is the same process, Sassy told me. i have two credit cards. yippee. Hopefully i will get enough to pay a lot of the bill off.

I had no idea I could do this!! Both Paul and I get charged all the time (not so much me any more, but Paul does every month!)
I am going to show him this when I get home, we were worried I might not get my debts payed off before my maternity pay runs out, but this could save us big time!!

Wish me luck!
EDIT- do I ahve to work out every charge, Minus £12, plus interest? (What rate of interest?) How do I even calculate interest?! I have no idea, but I really want to get as much as I possibly can back :D

Don't minus the £12...if they charged you £30/£35/whatever - then that is what you claim back...so if they charged you 10 times at £35, claim back £350.

Rememeber you can go back 6 years on the bank account, so if you're anything like me you'll find more than 10

I didn't claim interest on mine as I wasn't sure how to work it out, and whether you work the interest from the date you claim, or from the date each individual charge was made etc....someone else might know though....good luck :cheer:

Generally people make the initial claim without interest, then when they start to faff about, you can point out that they can either pay up now, or you will claim for the interest too.

There is a program here to work it out. You type in the amount and the date and it adds it all up for you.
