Has any second time even first time mums had an elective? I've had a c section previous with my son which was a emergency so I'm wanting to go elective for certain reasons so what was the experience like for you? I'm 20 weeks so I'm wondering I've got time but I don't think my body will go into labour xxx

I had 2 emergency c sections and 2 weeks ago had an elective section. The elective section was so nice, straightforward and touch wood has been the easiest one in terms of recovery. We even brought our gopro in to film the non gory parts and we've got an awesome film of the baby being lifted over the curtain and us discovering the gender. It was also nice because we had childcare sorted and my older 2 girls knew we'd be away for a few days.
Anyway, I obviously would have loved to experienced a natural birth but sadly thats never going to happen. However this planned section was a really fab experience in comparison to the other two.x

Thank you for replying Hun, did you get to have baby on you straight away? I want that more than anything tbh I just worry and this is such a big thing to decide xxx

Yes I did, they cut the cord and had offered to do delayed cord clamping which I had declined. They then placed her on my chest and i got to do her first feed there and then. After about 10 mins i gave her to my husband so she could be weighed etc. Then after that she went back on my chest and there she stayed until we got into recovery and we got her dressed.x

Awww that's lovely, that's exactly my what I want except I want some delayed cord cutting but also then being left open if the placenta isn't out is a bit gross, I may see if they can remove it as it is xxx

Hey, im 34 weeks with my second, first was an emcs. I am still considering an elective this time. I have gone back and fourth about having a vbac but had a few bad hospital experiences and now starting to feel like I would like the reassurance of having an elective section, such a tough choice tgough as I know recovery will be harder with a toddler to care for too xx

Exactly Hun that's my thinking too but they've told me baby is head down and engaged already! Obviously at 20 weeks he could still move and pop out but I'm wondering if he's down now should I go for it? Urghhh it's such a hard choice to make xxx

I had an elective on Monday hun, but was my first baby. Was scary, but was so much easier then an emergency (what I've heard) I got talked through everything and was awake for everything. I got discharged the next day (Tuesday) as everything was fine with me and Ruth xx

Wow that's amazing you went home next day!

I'm having 1st baby and have elected section arranged, but worried il go early and they will make me birth, anyone else have this fear?

I'd like skin to skin too, I've also asked my hubby if he would like skin to skin too and he said he would if I can feed straight away that would be amazing!!!

Then he can have a turn too.. to cuddle him skin to skin think it will be amazing for baby and hubby to have that 1st bonding moment too..

We would also like to go pro too :)

Thanks hun, yes I was lucky but because everything went well and everything was fine. I asked Tuesday morning when I'd be going home. As I assumed it would be Wednesday onwards. They checked me and baby again and said I could go home that day as long as everything came back ok again. Which it did. So I went home about 4ish. I was over the moon. It's defo worth the ask once you feel 100% .. another lady in the room went home to. Plus my cousin who had elective with second went hone next day so that's why I was curious. But as long as you feel ok then defo worth the ask. Lots and lots of luck xxxxx

I had an emergency one with my first then an elective with my second but my recovery was awful and i had a hemmorage in hospital. Im trying for a vbac this time but will have a c section if i have to and am preparing myself for it

1st was emc, 2nd was semi-emc (as I just weren't progressing quick enough no actual emergency with health etc)
I healed really well both times but was sent home 2nd time within 24hours of having him. Because they could see I was doing well, I was up and walking about as soon as I could feel my legs. With your 2nd you're more aware of what to expect.

I am pregnant with my 3rd and will be trying for a vbac.

First was emergency and second I went back and forth whether to try for vbac. I booked elective in anyway and was happy it fell 1day before my due date. I then decided to go for it but if I went into labour naturally before then I would try natural. I ended up having an elective.

Recovery for elective I found was quicker but like others said you know what to expect. I made sure I asked for more pain relief than with my first and I got up quicker getting them to remove my catheter as quickly as possible.
They showed me my son when they took him out and then took him off to clean him up and weigh etc and then gave him to me to me as quickly as possible to cuddle while I was being stitched up. Once stitched up and taken to my room I was given skin to skin and he fed. I don't know if it would have been different if I had requested other things but I didn't.
All in I was so pleased I had an elective but I wouldn't rule out trying for vbac2 if I have another xx

Interesting thread to read I initially asked for section at my booking in appointment and it's like my midwife was trying to put me off saying recovery would be harder with a toddler, lots of stairs, needing to get toddler to preschool etc but it's interesting to read these comments. She did say it wasn't my body's fault it was purely my sons fault it ended in a emergency last time but I still think ild prefer to have a section but she has kind of made me doubt myself :-(

By the time hubby was back at work (2 weeks off) I was driving about again and was plenty capable of looking after 2.
Yes stairs are hard but you find a way to manage.

I did sleep downstairs for maybe 6 weeks as my bed is really high so was too much movement to get to baby. I was a lot more comfortable sleeping upright. But other than that I was fine x

Hey ladies, haven't been on this thread for a while sorry about that! I'm going for a vbac but I will go c section if baby goes over I'm happy with that but currently 25 weeks and baby is head down he's been popping out and in of the pelvis a lot but not showing any sign of turning or anything. Xxx
