I really feel like i want to have a c-section this time round. I was wondering if anyone had an elective c-section before, and why?

Or does anyone have any advice as to how i can approach this with my MW?

I've not had one but considering it this time round, so I'm keen to know too

why do you both want Csections this time round?

just curious.

My 1st baby got stuck for ages, and her heart rate kept dropping really low. They prepped me for a c-section, but once in the operating theatre, they gave one last try with forceps, and managed to get her out (all bruised, my poor baby!)

2nd baby, also had heart rate dropping low. Then she was born very quickly, but she was quite big, and tore me badly, i even ruptured my urethra (very painfull!!) and im worried that this baby may be even bigger (as i read babies tend to get bigger each time)

Im petrified about giving birth

I didnt you know you could ask for a c section, i thought it was for emergencys? an private companys or something?

YOu can have an elective if there are medical problems before hand, liekif the mother is small and baby is big, or previous c-section, or breech baby, low laying placenta that kind of thing

oooo that sounds terrible. I would demand a c section if that was the case chick. Im sure your midwife will support you in this.

forgot to add that both my babies were distressed during labour (passed meconium), needed oxygen immeadiatley after birth and had poor apgar scores :(

c section is last thing i would ever want.. id rather be in pain down below after for 2 weeks than be away from my other kids for 5+ days and then healing aND NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE FOR 6 WEEKS.. (wopps for caps)

same here. But i haven't been ripped to shreads in labour - i think if i had i wouldn't want to go through it again.

i tore.. and id still would opt for a c sec.. unless bubs was in need of it..thats just me..obviously people are different.. but i think u really gotta think hard about it.. i couldnt be away from my family for 5+ days, it would drive me bonkers

I dont drive, thats not a problem. My kids would probably be staying with their dad (not my babies dad) for at least 5 days after the birth anyway.

And the pain after a ruptured urethra is unbelievable! I was on high painkillers for ages afterwards. Ive had abdominal surgery before, i knwo its not the same amount of pain.

and lastly, id rather do what was safer for my baby, and after research I personally think a c-section would be safer for the baby than any of my 2 previous births.

gee whizz id have ripped her head off her shoulders!

pigletpoo just had her baby by elective c section, i dont think she had any medical reason she just wanted one. u can but ask, she might say yes!

I thought about it at first but I thought my OH would think I am much more of a hard nut if I squeeze it out!

x

I also considered asking for a C-Section, with my youngest I too tore very badly, I have healed well, but the scar tissue down there seems very tight and I just don't think a baby could come outta there!
Also I healed very well, but I was told a few horror stories when I went for physio afterwards, eg becoming incontinent for the rest of your life etc if you tear badly again.

I mentioned it to my MW at my booking in and she was shocked I wanted one, and talked me out of it a bit.
I would really worry how I would do the school run and lift Brody into the pushchair etc. I'm still half and half, but if I do have another natural birth I will tell the MW straight if I tear badly again I'm suing!! The last baby came out in 2 pushes and the MW never told me to slow down she just let me do it to myself! Then after I was 2 hours in theatre so missed all that time with OH and Brody :(

I would think about having a c section as well... (not possible here though... they would never ever allow it, unless it was an emergancy, or I'd had one before)...

My daughter's birth was very traumatic, and she wasn't breathing at all by the time she was born.. She had gone into distress....I tore extremely badly after I had Tia too, but because I had to have my placenta removed, and the surgeon had to be really, really brutal as it was well and truly stuck (my ribs hurt more than my vagina did for a long time, where he'd be so aggressive once inside my uterus),.... I had like 30+ stitches, inside and out...and it was awful afterwards... Tia wasn't a small baby by any stretch of the imagination either, but she came out quick though... But at the end of the day I only want a c section because I am afraid of going through all that trauma and fear again...
