well as from today dolly has her ears pierced:) I took her to claires and they did them both at the same time, she did cry but only for a min. She has got tiny white gold studs. She has been to sleep this afternoon and layed down fine didnt say a thing which I was worried about. I was just thinking to myself last night I dont know any woman that dosnt have them done so why wait (and o/h give in and said yes haha)

Dolly was 2 in april and I been thinking about getting her ears pierced. I dont like it on small babies but I also dont want her to get too old she understands and then is too scared. Her dad is not keen at all on the idea. He is also worried I might unsettle her going to bed etc if they hurt her. Has anybody else had a child ears piercid dollys age or younger or would you?

To be honest hun, I'd wait until 4. Like you I don't like it on babies but then again I have nothing against it, I just personally wouldnt inflict that on a young child. Need to persuade your OH before you go getting Dollys ears pierced though, I was seven x

You need to be very very careful where you take her if you decide to. Please don't have allow them to use the gun as it's not safe at all and neither is the jewellery.
Try some piercing studios. A few use specialised single use cartridges and the jewellery is much more appropriate :)

As for her sleeping, they should heal up within a week to two weeks but it all depends on whether she's likely to have a tug at them
Hope this helps :)

p.s. I'm a trained piercer not just talking through my bum :P

Great advice there Simone  so nothing to add from me, its a parents personal choice isn't it :)

i personally wont be putting bits of metal in my child, they can choose to do that themselves when they are old enough to make the decision

I knew a girl who had her ears pierced young, she was rolling on the carpet and got a stud caught, it ripped her earlobe in half and it has grown deformed

please think carefully x

I caught a certain piercing of mine in the shower on a loofa thingy and tore it, looked like someone had been stabbed

Accidents can happen to any piercing at any age unfortunately. For kiddie winkles jewellery choice is key. Any reputable piercer will be able to (and will) advise dependant on each individual child.

It definately is mummy's choice and let's face it, she's probably going to be bugging you for her belly button pierced before long anyway :)

thanks for the help i've been told off some friends you can get studs that pull out it they get court on anything? I cant remember getting my done as a child so i must of been younge, I didn think my o/h would be like this at all he is so layed back and normally just lets me get on with thngs, not so when im thinking of putting holes in his little girls ears lol

Bella had her ears done at claires assesories when she was three months old - they won't do it untill they are six months now tho- they are really good they see the red book and do both ears at once she cried for two seconds then laughed she has gold diamonds in her ears and has never had trouble win them and they gave us cleaning solution and we used cotton buds afterwards I would recomend claire go anyone as she is so young not doing it with a gun is longer and you might only get one ear done or wonkey piercings if she pulls away x

I wanted to get my daughters done but i never got round to it but bellas friend had hers done around 1. My daughter keeps pestering me to get her ears pierced and shes nearly 4 so i think im going to wait till the start of the summer holidays then get them done so i can watch her whilst they are healing rather then her being at school. I no that some piercers wont pierce children until there 6 tho and fully undestand whats going to happen. x

I waited until she asked me to have it done which happened to be on her 4th birthday. She didn't cry at all and was really proud of them it was me that was a wreck! Even though I've had various piercings over the years I was shaking when it came to them doing DD's x x

I just read up about the gun issue and OMG i rally didnt know all the problems that can occur from the gun being used. http://www.namaii.com/suck/
How do i find out if a shop uses a gun or needle? I feel abit silly walking into a tattoo/piercing place with my daughter and asking lol x

Just in case anyone thought I was recommending the clamps and needle method, I wasn't. Some piercers use a single use cartridge which is one click and it's done. Also if you're lucky and find a studio which operates with two piercers then both could be done at once.

There is jewellery available with a kind of flick down catch at the back that will pull out if baby gets it caught on anything.

As for finding out who will pierce and which method / jewellery they use, please don't feel silly going into a studio and asking. A respectable piercer will be pleased that you've taken the time to come in and ask and are looking into the best way to have your little one pierced :)

Great find with the website btw :)

My mum didnt get mine done until I was about 8 years old and i remember the fright i got with the gun - i ended up coming out of the shop with one ear pierced! I was so scared i waited until i was older the get them done again (and both!!)

When my sister was born (theres a big age gap) I dont think my mum wanted to put her through the same as me and did it when she was younger and she never had any accidents - she did "loose" them occasionally in which my mum found them a few days later in her nappy!! :puke:

I just read somewhere that claires accsories dont use the old guns anymore? they use one that pushes the earring in it doesnt fire it like the old one? Is there any difference? x

I remember the sound of that piercing gun to this day

Tbh if I had a little girl I think I would have hers done about 2-3.. Not that I find anything wrong with doing it before or after, just personal preference :)

Personal opinion here, please dont all shout at me!!

I just think its really wrong to do anything to your childs body that is going to stay with them permanently until they can make the choice for themselves. I first started asking for my ears pierced when I was about 10 and got them done at the start of the summer holidays before going to 'big school' for me that was a really memorable part of growing up! I have other piercings in my ears now which I got done and then went off. Although I only wore earrings in my second piercings for a matter of months you can still easily see the holes! What if your child doesnt like piercings when they are older (plenty dont) isnt it easier for them to have them done if they want them than to return their ears to normal if they dont!

So much for people saying its the mothers choice, shouldnt it be the childs choice when they are old enough to make it??

Dont want to make anyone cross, this is my personal opinion.

Mummynmummy2b you have said EXACTLY what i was thinking...

am not going to continue because i WILL wind someone up, i feel quite strongly about this!

I have to say, I do tend to agree with mummynmummy2b.

I also had mine done at the start of the holidays before 'big school' and loved that it was my responibility to care for my ears.

Of course it is all personal opinion, and choose which ever you see fit. I just believe if a child is going to have their body altered for non medical reasons, they should be given the choice first. :)
