Contraception...

I got the coil fitted a few months back and I love it! I got the copper one as I'm anti fake hormones (they send me crazy, I swear) and apart from some initial discomfort I've not had any side effects :)

I've heard nasty things about the coil... cramps, heavy bleeding! Sometimes your partner can 'feel it'... xxxxx

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

there's 4 different kinds of coil and I've heard the same about one in particular but it's not the case for all of them.

I had the merina coil fitted a couple of weeks ago, can't feel the strings (even tho dr said she'd left them quite long!) was completely painless going in and I've had a period, it was less painful than I remember them being and about the same heavyness. Dr told me periods will probably get a lot lighter after 6ish months and will likely, but not always, stop altogether within the next year.

I was a little creeped out at the thought of a coil but not so much after having a baby! I've been on at least 8 different pills (one of which I fell pregnant on!) as well as used condoms, the injection and would recommend the coil out of all of them, so far anyways!

Does anyone use a diaphragm these days? Hormone contraceptives are out for me because they send me crazy for sure. We have been stuck with condoms but we don't really like using them I was wondering about a diaphragm.

I'm going for the copper coil. I did have an appointment to month but it's went tits up due to moving house etc.

I had the implant before for like 4 years I got it out and was ntnp for a year and nothing happened then after the year I lost weight and fell pregnant the first proper cycle of TTC So I always say that it can take ages to get your body back that's why I'm opting for no hormones. Plus I got worse cramps with my implant plus weig gain and moodiness. Never again lol.

I'm allergic to the free condoms or the lube on them and I'm not shelling out a fortune for durex plus oh "forgets" we always get carried away and use withdrawal, not the safest way so egar to get my coil, so my mind can rest when we DTD.

How was the coil being removed anyone? Xxxxx

Have you considered natural methods? If you learn how to use them, they are quite successful

We have been considering trying LAM (breastfeeding as contraception) for the first 6 months. It's supposed to be 98% effective, which is as good as most methods. No one seems to know much about it in person and act like you are crazy if you mention it but it seems to be quite well researched that it works.

I'm exclusively breastfeeding however my period started 6 weeks after my baby was born... so you may need a back up plan x

Aw, that's not fair! Were you planning on using BF as contraception?

No, but I just thought I would let you know as you ovulate before a period... so might not be a totally reliable method x

I talked to the doctor today, took away some info about Mirena coil, need to think about it. The issue is that my body reacts to metals so wouldnt want to risk a copper coil

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

I had the Merena coil fitted this week, it was like having a smear getting it fitted. Hopefully itll work for me, just need to wait and see x

It seems that the majority of women who are exclusively breastfeeding don't ovulate before their first period so once you get your period it doesn't work any more but until then it should work. There is still a 2% chance of getting pregnant but that's more or less the same as for most methods.

This is true, i had a scan 2 weeks before my period returned(coincidentally) and no sign of ovulation. I did get pregnant after first period
