Anyone know the law on this?
I want to go out for dinner next week as its my 21st but i no colbi will need feeding. i no most places are ok about it but just worried ill get asked to leave somewhere. x

I think its the law that you can feed in public and nobody can ask you to stop!!

I BF in ikea last week (kitchen section lol) and was very proud of myself!! Wouldn't have been so brave with m first, it's so nerve wracking!! Even now I plan in advance what to wear to be descreet and with the right tops, blankets, you can hardly tell i'm feeding.... i think....

i fed in the shopping centre at weekend and got some old man perving on me, he walked all the way around me staring at me then sat down next to me. kinda put me off but i knew i was covered and my son wanted food.
i did think it was against the law for places to ask you to leav but the other month a woman got asked to get off a bus for breastfeeding so it confused me.
i fed my daughter in a restaurant 4years ago and no-one knew even though i had someone sitting less than an arms lengh away. x

unfortunately its not illegal for them to ask you to leave :( it is in scotland tho for some reason just in england! i never had anyone ask me to stop, tbh i dont think anyone every noticed i was feeding!

I went to a breastfeeding session on Friday at hospital and was told you can still be asked to stop in England an it's a £2000 fine (for them) in Scotland if someone asks you to stop!!!!

God it's so contradicting!! It's legal for us to breast feed ANYWHERE we want but it's also legal for shop owners/bus drivers to ask us to leave?!

I'm planning on breast feeding when we have children! Sod who doesn't like it! lol

xxx

i kno some restaurants & shops have feeding rooms for you to go in, but im gona breastfeed where ever he/ she needs to be fed, and id like to meet the person who is gona tell me that i cant feed my child.... grr really aggrevates me this (as you can probs tell, lol )

xxx

I was never asked to stop feeding anywhere, so hopefully you won't have any troubble either!

im sure you will be ok have a table by the wall and just sit with your back to the rest of the room.
Im hope im really brave and feed Noa WHENEVER he is hungry no matter where we are. I love the mums that just chuck there boobs out thinking nothing of it! i wanna be one of them!! got a scarf thing tho that i will have with me all the time to cover :D

I'd phone the restaurant and check with them! I honestly can't see them having a problem x

I have a mamascarf to cover us but i cant get used to using it. i prefer to beable to see his face so i know hes ok. Thanks everyone, just gotta see where OH is gonna take me then i can find out, if its a harvester i know ill be ok lol x

if you mention that you have a newborn and will need a table where you can have the baby in the carseat next to you so preferably not in an area with lots of people passing. then you can add that he will need feeding during the evening and will that be okay, try and get the name of the person you speak to incase anyone says anything you can say you already checked with X and wwere told it was fine.

a restraunt is a place for eating, they cant tell your baby not to eat!!

Oh this country is sooo behind the times, how can they run national campaigns to encourage women to breastfeed and then have these laws to alienate you for doing something, they prob had done with their own mum when they were little! makes me mad.

I will be new to breastfeeding this time hopefully , it didn't work with sections and scbu with mine, but I really want to try -(baby permitting) this time. I will be sooo embarresed even without being asked, so will be looking into those scarf things I think as my cop out backup plan. The clothes look so expensive and I wouldn't know what to buy

I certainly would be surprised if there were any indecency offences on this issue. If someone reported a lady to me for breastfeeding, I'd probably laugh!!! Then tell them to go catch themselves on!

It's the most natural thing in the world fgs! Hopefully time will bring change! It's ridiculous, it should be illegal everywhere to ask a woman to stop feeding her child.. If you ask me, if it bothers you.. Don't bloody look! Hope you enjoy your bday meal hun xx

Good luck with your meal! It is ridiculous that people would ask a breastfeeding mother to stop/leave.

I'm so nervous at the thought of breastfeeding in public. LO nearly 2 weeks old and we're still only just getting the hang of it at home, with pillows all around, DH bringing me drinks etc.. The thought of doing it in public...eek! But I'm sure we'll ge there in a few weeks...that or we stay indoors for the next few months, which wont be fun!!

completely agree febmum2be, dont look and you wont be offended!!

simples!!

I bf anywhere, if Matt needs feeding nothing gets in the way. If someone asked me to stop I think I would have to tell them to F off!!

I am surprised at how confident I am bf toby in public, no where near a fine art but I would probably have something to say if I was asked to leave

I read somewhere that in England you cant be asked to leave café's and buses when breastfeeding and you can get them done for sexual and maternity discrimination but unfortunately they can make you leave most other places.

My friend works in Costa Coffee and she even gets people coming up and complaining about BF mothers! Disgusting!! I dread feeding Evelyn in public but know I cant avoid it forever! x
