Hi,

I know this has probably been asked a million times on here but I wanted my own thread of responses.

I have a 4 year old and only managed to breast feed him for the first 3 days. It was so difficult and he was awake every 20 minutes to half an hour as he kept falling asleep on the breast and couldnt be woken then when I put him down he'd wake for more milk! It was mentally and physically draining for me so decided to put him on the bottle and it worked a treat. Another this is because I started to breast feed then stopped before my proper milk came in, it backed up ridiculously and killed with pain. I went from a B cup to an E! Hurt hurt hurt!

Would really like to give it a try again this time but wondering if I should just try to avoid the pain and get him/her straight on the bottle?

Anyone else considered what to do?

xx

they say breast feeding is the best thing for the baby but im not 100% sure because if i breast feed i dont know how much baby is getting where as a bottle i do but then ive been told baby will take the amount that she wants but she could be a greedy baby then you have to train them to stop of the boob so at the moment iam thinking of bottle feeding

Yeah I know what you mean. Sometimes I wished my boob was see-through with little millimetre measurements on the side. Like you say, you never know how much they were getting.

I am leaning more towards the bottle at the moment but don't think i'll be completely sure until the day comes!

xx

iam more towards the bottle than the boob lol

Im more boob this time round. I couldn't do it with my first and was very dissapointed. I suppose really its down to the individual and only you will know the answer :) x

im 100% for breastfeeding. I really hope it agrees with me and little man when he arrives

This is a really stupid question but if you bottle feed do you still get droopy boobs? I quite like mine where they are, Im kind of used to them after all this time!!!!

Pregnancy makes boobs drop NOT breastfeeding!

Just what I was going to say! I've breastfed for over 2 years in total and they're definitely not any droopier than they were when I first had Sam

I struggled so much with Sam to start with - he was slightly tongue tied (although nobody noticed until months later) and also kept falling asleep, but my experience with Toby has been so different...right from the start he fed for about 10-15 minutes at a time, and lasted hours between feeds (most of the time anyway ) so it's been a million times easier. If you're not sure you could always just give it a go and see how you feel for the first couple of days, and have bottles ready in case it's not any easier this time around x

i have not even bought bottles or anything.. perhaps i should.. ive just been so sure that i will do it no matter what.. easier said then done prob.

I want to breastfeed, but sometimes even my own nipples freak me out! I am hoping I don't have a freak out moment when trying to breastfeed, and that it will all seem natural!x

I didn't either - with all the 24 hour supermarkets around it's not as if you can't get something if you really need it anyway x

From a bottle feeding mum of three, I have only got two bottles, that came free with exressing stuff, and they will not be got ready at all before baby, so that I can't easily give up! This is my last time, so it has to work

Another plus side, I need this time for your breast V bottle comparison, is the cost of formula tins , check in the supermarket next timoe your in, seem to be 7-9 quid a tin now, and I'm sure once they were a few months old I used to use about 2 tins a week I think!!:wall2: nearly fainted when I saw it!

If you have a baby cafe/breast feeding support group near you I would really suggest you head down there while pregnant, I did and it made them a lot more accessible after Toby was born and also gave me more faith in myself in being able to work through problems... I took Toby when he was 4 days old, got his latch seen, and had a cuppa and natter with other mums who had all been through similar problems, and more importantly I am sure is one of the main reasons I am still breast feeding and feel confident heading out and about as I started bf in public in a safe place iykwim :flower:

I really want to give it a go too but have similar worries. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. At least I you give it a go no one can say you didn't try. Maybe this is the wrong attitude but it just seems to add extra work lol. Or maybe I'm just feeling lazy just now.

^^ I have to sterilise bottles and heat bits of milk for Toby's meds and it is sucha headache, the rare time I don't have to faf before a feed is marvelous... literally just plugging him in

I don't think you should worry about knowing exactly how much baby is fed. I wouldn't have a clue how much Oscar takes each feed, he just feeds when he wants and has plenty of wet nappies and puts on weight so he must be doing ok. If he was bottle fed and he didn't drink as much as I thought he should (like my daughter did) it's not like I could get him to drink any more.

With my 1st I bought bottles just in case and I did resort to them for the above reasons people have mentioned, plus it bloody hurt. I had no idea it would get better so I bottle fed. Next 2 I was determined and didn't buy anything and stuck with it. I'm so glad as I love it and I don't have the ball ache of sterilizing everything.
