Breast feeding? big deal?

Ive heard different things about breast is best etc, and if it is then I would def want my baby to get the best start I could give it...and if like some say there is very little difference or benefit...then Ive not lost out on feeding....

Was told that especially with my asthma and allergies that my littlun would have problems, specially if I didn't breastfeed.

She's fine.

And she's now 3 1/2 and has had one stomach bug (we all got norovirus on halloween 2008) and she had one ear infection (think it was shortly after that time) and she's never proper sick - the odd cold now and then but she just gets on with it.

So I'm sure there's statistics and wotnot, but it's not the end of the world if you can't, or can't for long, or don't want to - my littluns 'god'mum was adopted from a home in India over 30 years ago, where she was dumped at birth, and she was brought up on goats milk. She's fantastic and didn't suffer owt from it.

We all know breast is best because it's rammed down our throats at every opportunity. But as long as everyone can be open minded about other people's personal choice(s) when it comes to parenting and feeding etc, everyone is happy.

I'm hoping my medication can be lowered to the lowest dose before the baby is born, because I'm desperate to have a proper go at breastfeeding this time.

But I'm also happy knowing how to make up a bottle and what formula works best and so on and blah - it helps to have been there before, if only we knew what we personally need to know when it's the first time! We hadn't a clue!

Also if it's any consequence they say breast protects against bugs but my lo is bf and she just had the flu which I believe she caught off of my bf'ing lol xxx

That was what I meant to say - I knew someone who breastfed hers, and she got asthma and a milk allergy and was always sick with tummy bugs!

So all I expect from my bairn when its born, regardless of how I can or can't feed her or him, is to possibly have to deal with bugs, or possibly not

As a teenager I always swore that when and if I had a baby I would never breast fed. But once I became pregnant I knew I wanted to.

And I did for the first 2 months, until my milk dried up all of its own accord. Devastated wasn't the word, I took myself of to the Health visitor as a failure :(

I was so ashamed that I could feed my child myself, HV was great she really comforted me and made me realise that Evan had had the best from me and that formula milk was good stuff. He's now 8 months and a happy healthy formula fed baby.

Good luck, don't beat yourself up about what you want and stick to your guns don't let anyone tell you you must breast feed.
xx

i'm not sure on what i'm going to do atm. I have all the bottles and sterilizer etc already just in case he doesn't take and TBA eventually we will need one so just gunna be prepared. Ill try it and if i think its for me ill keep doing it but otherwise i will switch to formula milk.
