*Birth plans and Epidurals*

I nearly gave birth in triage cos there was no rooms left in the delivery centre or the birthing suite! If you can get in the birthing suite take it! The rooms are so much nicer and more relaxing whereas the delivery centre is usually pretty basic and feels like a hospital (bc at my hospital was like a 5* hotel!).

If there are no complications and you aren't strapped to a monitor they usually let you move around and be in whatever position you like but if you need the monitor you can't move while it's on and if you have an epidural you're flat on your back with no other option!

I didn't really have a birth plan, just told them basically I'll take their advice and if I want something then they have to do their best to get me it! My mw was amazing, I couldn't have asked for anyone better and she was really good with Lee when he had a nervous breakdown too lol

ive was told at my 25 week appointment to start thinking about my birth plan.

where to start eh. xxx

Thanks everyone :)

I googled birth plans and it gave me some ideas so i have wrote some down and will right a proper one out

soon! I know Nmf, Why don't you google birth plans and it shows you loads of examples...quite helpful as i had

no idea what to put or what i could choose or anything before googling it. xxx

My birth plan is not to have a plan! I feel like i cant possibly decide now what i want at the time - i have no idea how ill feel! Im just going to stay very open minded and ill try and do without an epidural but if i cant cope i wont beat myself up about having one x

I am the same with the Epidural! I feel alot more relaxed about labour knowing i can have one xxx

I have already started my birth plan. My midwife said there is no harm in me doing it early if I know what I want and it would be good for DH to familiarise himself with it too so he is fully aware of what I want. I am fairly adamant on some points too.
NO episiotomy (spelt wrong) unless 100% neccessary
Xx

I can't see why they would do an episiotomy UNLESS it was 100% necessary!! Unless your midwife is a butcher, lol xx

I'm not going to bother with a birth plan. Am going to listen to my body and go with the flow. Am not opposed to any sort of pain relief including epidural if necessary and as Cherelle says I don't know what I'll feel like when I'm in labour so anything goes!!

Exactly Roo - just go with the flow, I like that :) xx

I just think its hard to plan for something when you have no idea what's going to happen. So yeah I agree with cherelle my plan is to have no plan lol. X

I know we don't now whats going to happen but i want them to know the important things to me, like baby to be placed straight on me if everything ok and if i have to have a c-section that OH is with me xxx

Well I have read of cuts being done before the skin is fully stretched caused excessive bleeding and bruising to the surrounding tissue. I would rather, if anything, tear naturally.

Xx

why would they cut before skin is fully stretched? I dunno if its the right thing to do but im planning on just trusting the proffessionals to do what they think is best x

I'm not sure why they would, I read it in my Miriam Stoppard pregnancy and birth book. I also read in my ' what to expect when you're expecting' pregnancy book that episiotomys 'are more likely than spontaneous tears to turn into serious third - or fourth - degree tears...'

If baby is distressed or is not coming out for some reason they will offer you a episotomy to get the baby out quicker. With my first the cord was wrapped around his neck and he was starting to get distressed.. she said i could either keep pushing and theyd just keep an eye on him or she would cut me to get him out quicker.. I decided to have the episotomy and baby was out on the next push :D... she numbed it all before she cut me and it didnt hurt at all.. felt no ring of fire as it was obviously all numb and the stitching up didnt hurt either.

Ahh that makes sense - thanks Beth. I'm sure if that was the case we would all say 'just do whatever you have to to' xx
