Anyone else in their 40s?

The Marissa Peer book is great. I think there are a couple of schools of thought around fertility acupuncture. As I understand it the Zita West type is much more rigid in it's thinking - no doubt they have lots of success - but my lady doesn't follow that and to me what she does makes more sense.

Charlotte - have a look at an app called "Calm". I've heard lots of people recommend it, I think it gives you a daily meditation. That would probably help you a lot. I'm sure you already know this but if you are stressing, and I mean really stressing, about getting pregnant then you will be producing more cortisol, the stress hormone. Cortisol inhibits progesterone. I would also recommend the Marissa Peer book Staces mentioned, it's called "trying to get pregnant and succeeding" and has some nice visualisations. I recorded the one for getting pregnant onto my iphone, just read it out loud and recorded my voice, which I could then play to myself daily on my headphones on my way to work. Actually I haven't listened to it for a while, I must start doing that again. To answer your question yes, I'm back in the UK this week, loving being in London with all the Christmas lights :)

Staces, I'm off to St Lucia with a friend :) Can't wait for some sunshine, yoga and relaxation. Officially I'm in the tww right now and even though I'm not holding out hope given we only dtd once and it was early, I'm still starting to symptom spot. AF is due the last day of my holiday so I'm hoping being away will serve as a good distraction.

Wow that's interesting about the cortisol Syd, I have way over normal levels of cortisol to the point they thought I had Cushings disease, unfortunately nobody helped me even though my levels are way above the normal levels. I wonder if thats why my progesterone is low and I miscarried. ?. xx

I would say that's possible Lil. Vitamin C can help to lower cortisol. Not to sound like a broken record but acupuncture and reflexology I'm sure could help... Both my reflexologist and acupuncturist can tell when I'm particularly stressed.

Thank you girls for your support. I did blood test to check stress levels in my body and apparently my body is very calm. Stress free.

My mind however is not. Will look into app "calm. I have read this book already. Its great. I also read how to communicate to child you meant to have. Its awesome. Now I will read another one about mind and body to help me get rid of obsessive thoughts.

Has anyone tried yoga to calm the thoughts down? I have these thought running in the background 24/7.

xx

I've been taking high dose vitamin c for a couple of weeks as I heard it raises progesterone too. I will look into reflexology, I need to book a massage too as found that helped with stress and tension. xx

I guess with any treatments/therapy you just have to find someone suitable for you, I think I will ask her when I go for acupuncture tomorrow should i not feel something working by now and see what she says.....

Oh Syd, sounds amazing, have a lovely time. I will admit I am jealous right now!! I've not been on holiday in over 4 years, ever since I Started TTC my life just pretty much stopped :( I literally dont do anything anymore.

I did yoga a couple of times and never again, way to hard for me lol. I really liked pilates though, kind of similar but a bit easier I think.

I found reflexology so relaxing lilith, I love a massage as well, not had one in ages. Maybe I will treat myself for Christmas ;)

Staces, everyone reacts differently to treatments. You don't feel any different after yours?

I defo feel different after my first Bowen. Felt like I was at the gym for an hour.

Maybe try something else and see if that helps?

Goodness Staces, 4 years is a long time without a holiday, I love my holidays. You should definitely try and find the time to do some things for you, long term ttc is so terribly upsetting and demoralising I think it's even more important to look after yourself.

I've done a bit of yoga on and off, I've done some yoga holidays over the years and I love them, they are so relaxing. Yoga is definitely about finding the right teacher, I've been to many classes I wouldn't go back to but when you find a good teacher it's great, or can be. I actually find pilates harder in some ways - I've suffered from a bad back for years so when I do it I do the machine-based pilates rather than mat based.

Had a massage last night, it was lovely but I was shattered afterwards and in bed by 9pm. Been having coldy symptoms for the last few days which seem to have gotten worse today. A massage can do that, plus probably the change in climate now I'm in the UK. Also when I saw my reflexologist on Monday she thought something positive might be "going on" so weakened my immune system slightly to aid implantation, just in case...

I find yoga very slow and boring. Its not for me at all.

Holiday? I would like to go on holiday too. Somewhere hot, sunny and sandy.

Where in cycle ladies are you ?

xx

Morning ladies,

Hope everyone is well!

I'm not actually sure where I am in cycle.....??? Because I didn't get to 'try' this cycle haven't really given it much thought, I think AF should be due next week sometime. It's weird though as my boobs have been tender since ovulation (obvs not pregnancy related).

I cancelled my acupuncture appt on Sat as I wasn't in the mood, have been looking at going elsewhere, dont really want to give up on it just yet.

I'm cd 7 I think, my OH is coming here the day I get my positive opk as we will only be able to try once this month, it bloody sucks living 260 miles apart.
Staces sore boobs are a sign of too much estrogen I think, I used to get that a lot, evening primrose oil stops it completely for me when I remember to take it. xx

Stacey, why did you cancel acupuncture app?

Lillith, glad your oh is coming over at the right time.

I've got sore throat for the past few days. Not sure if that means anything.

Got my second Bowen session today. x

Thats good lillith, yeah I know what you mean its not easy living apart! :(

Usually they are a little sore little up to and on ovulation but ease up afterwards until about a week or so before my period, but every now and then I have this where they are tender all throughout the two weeks! I might try EPO, I usually just take it leading up to ovulation and then stop.

I wasn't really in the mood tbh, plus I wanted an earlier time which she couldn't do. I will just reschdule it. I will still look at finding someone else though I think...
Good luck with the bowen Charlotte, hope it works for you x

Girls do you think dtd on positive opk day is best or should we try the day before ?, I know I caught on day of positive opk last time but I've read over 40s can pop the egg out just before the surge, aww I really don't know what's best for this one shot ?. x

Just to add my boobs are sore exactly one week before af except when I caught pregnant they were sore from 4-5dpo. xx

Staces,, if you are not happy with acupuncturist then defo change her. There are so many people out here offering it.

My Bowen lady is ver lovely. It is allowed to chat during session so we just discuss all getting pregnant tricks! She highly recommends to look into mindfulness. Which i did. Got 2 books and meditation app.

Lillith dont stress too much about the right time. There is no right time. Enjoy your oh and that's all you have to do. Once opk is positive jump on him :) x

From everything I have read I would say dtd before, I do think there is definetely something to that theory. I always aim for around CD11/12 (usually ovulate around CD12) but a couple of times have ov on CD11 so for me personally i think I should be aiming earlier. Plus sperm can live for around 3-5 days. x

I've heard quite a few times that the day before a positive opk is supposed to be the most successful, but how will you know when this is for certain? It's so hard isn't it x

Thankyou ladies, I will try and aim for the day before positive opk, my opk day before is usually pretty dark if I test at 11am, then dark positive the next day. I usually have a positive on cd13 so we will try and aim for cd12. Thankyou for your help ladies. Charlotte you're right, if its going to happen it will. I will enjoy my time with him as time is precious as we don't see each other that often. xx

Lil I would definitely do day before, at our age given the info about ovulation often happening before the opk that's prob the safest. My chemical last month was a result of day before positive opk and my pregnancy in July was 1-2 days before.

Interesting about sore boobs and progesterone, I didn't get sore boobs at all before my July bfp and haven't really had any soreness since whereas I did used to get it before AF.

They say 2 days before ov is the most likely for success. I think it's coz the best sperm is in the right place to meet the egg and the weakest most damaged sperms have died off so the sperm that are there are the most likely to create a good blastocyst
