Advice on Hypnobirthing

Just found out the course near us is done for 2-3 couples at a time max. Seriously thinking about it now but need to work it through with dates etc. might just do the daisy birthing classes or something similar x

well she has just left!! 3 hours that first session took. The book and the CD i got are the same as what I had already bought from Ebay. Although next week she is going to give me a CD done in her own voice, instead of the American one.

she basically just went over what it was all about, and the philosophy behind it all. As i had already read half of the book, she didnt really tell me anything that i didnt already know! It was good for hubby to hear it all though, and he is now totally onboard. We also watched a video of some woman birthing using the the techniques.

we did a breathing technique which will help me relax and sleep, and she also did a little "mind exercise" with us which was quite good, just to demonstrate the power of the mind and imagination.

next week is deepening techniques and ways to achieve complete relaxation.

I am quite lucky with the midwife that is teaching in my area, as she used to work at the local hospital, and knows the other midwives and procedures there very well. She is also in there doing talks all the time and training other midwives in how to support us in the labour ward.
She also went over the Pathways of Care which all labour wards should be following, and went over our rights as birthing mothers, which nobody had ever told me before. Its quite empowering.

what I didnt realise, is that its a complete ante-natal care course. She helps us fill in our birthing plan, and goes over breastfeeding and post natal care for us and baby. There is also quite a few techniques that she teaches hubby, like teaching them to how to recognise a surge just by having has hand lightly on our tummy, and then taking us through the correct breathing technique to use to get through it, and massage techniques to help it pass. Hubby was quite pleased when she said this, as it puts him in control!

I am glad we have the first one under our belts now, and cant wait to get stuck in properly next week!

Sounds amazing Lynds!!

And she came out just to see you and hubby?

As I say I really think I am going to have to stick to the books and CD and there is nothing reasonbale in my area - hypnobirthing classes are in the region of £400??

I will look around though!

That really sounds amazing and worth much more than the books and CDs. Might start looking into it. OUCH nat, london is soo pricey!

Hiya, the Natal Hypnotherapy courses are much cheaper. It is dependent on where you are based but they are generally £190 for a two day course and £300 for a private course. It is different strokes for different folks but NH is much less American. You can also get books and Cd's etc. Dani x

Yep, she came to our house and it was just the 3 of us. Although I could have had Mum there too if I had wanted.

Try calling them Nat and see if there is any taster sessions soon (you normally get a discounted rate offered at these) or just ask for a discount? My midwife did it free for one couple as they were really into it but just couldn't afford it. She is a lovely lady though!

Like I said we could have had even more money off if we allowed another couple to come to our house to do it with us, which would be fine if the couple were ok, but knowing mine and hubbies luck we would have ended up with a right pair of numpties or someone I have arrested so we declined! Haha

I don't even know where to begin looking for a MW that will come and give us private hypnobirting lessons?

How did you find this lady?

I met her at a baby show. But she does have her own hypnobirthing website. Just do a search on google but make sure they are accredited for the Mongan method to make sure your getting a genuine practitioner. We also got leaflets recently at our parent craft classes of the natal hypnobirthing and the
Mongan classes so we could choose.

Carnat - This is where I found ours. I was under the impression that the charges were regulated by Maggie Howell, but perhaps they are allowed to charge more in London. We are being charged £150 for a one day, private course, but that's the natal hypnotherapy bit only (it normally comes with a second day, which is more like traditional antenatal classes, so would have been £300 for both days as Danid says.

Have you thought about travelling outside of London if you need to?

Ruth Sabrosa is brilliant and all Natal Hypnotherapy practitioners are trained and accredited by Maggie Howell - it's powerful stuff. Let us know how you get on x

Oh there you go! I didn't realise you've found your local one that's on the Maggie Howells site![/QUOTE]

Hello ladies
I am Ruth Sabrosa, natal hypnotherapy practitioner and I noticed you posted a link to my website. I am running small group workshops and private ones in the Islington area and have had very positive feedback from all couples who have attended these workshops.
I personally used natal hypnotherapy for the birth of my daughter 2 years ago and was so amazed by its effectiveness that I trained to be a practitioner with Maggie Howell. Please do get in touch if I can be of any assistance at all. My contact details are on my website.
Best wishes,
Ruth

Hi Ruth,

It was myself that found your link as I am Islington based.

I am keeping an eye on upcoming workshops for September.

Hypnobirthing session 2 = 2.5hrs

i totally couldnt be bothered with this tonight, as I had only had 3 hours sleep last night, had got up for work at 5.15 and had done a 10hr shift and hour commute. All I wanted was my jammies and a snuggle with hubby.
But....... I really enjoyed it!

Tonight we focused on the awareness of the baby in the womb, its memory, experiences and about how our hopes, feelings, fears and way we live our lives can affect it greatly. Not just babies personality, but its intelligence and brain development. All very interesting.

we also touched on our options for Vit K and making sure baby is not subjected to any pain by needles etc when its first brought into the world.

Then we did some more breathing techniques, surge breathing this week. And some deepening techniques to try, and some light touch massage. Some of them include hubby touching me in a certain way, in a certain place that will immediatly trigger me to go into deep relaxation quickly. Most of these are to be used during the surges.

it was a lot to take in tonight, and we have a lot to practice for next week, as we carry on doing the stuff we learnt last week as well as all the new stuff this week. But its all really nice stuff to do, and stuff we do together.

during one of the deepening techniques, I actually felt more relaxed than I ever have before, just on the verge of sleep, very heavy eye lids but being totally alert and aware at the same time??? maybe lack of sleep helped with that one, but it was amazing!!

next week is more of the same, more about the deepening techniques. I think these are most important to get into you, to get practicing just in case bubs comes early.

also learnt tonight that we talk through any fears that we have, like maybe worrying we wont get the sudden rush of love, or any fears that we will share a trait of our own parents that we dont like, to the more common fears of examinations and needles. We go through them all, until they no longer matter, or until we are confident in our ability to ensure that doesnt happen.

am getting really excited by all of this!! So far, well worth every penny.

Is it OK to use the Natal Hypnoborthing CD this early? (28w)

In the main session there is lots of talk about expelling baby, moving it down birth canal etc.. obviously I don't want to expel bub anytime soon

I started using it about 20 weeks and listened on and off all the way through pregnancy, was listening to just the music track during labour. It helped keep me calm during pregnancy and as the only bad thing I said during labour was 'oh my goodness' I'd say it worked. My OH said I was amazing and so did my midwives. For me it was all about where you put your focus, mine was visualisations in my head and by breathing realky deep long breaths, refusing to really let the contractions take over. Focus focus focus on relaxing and breathing is my tip.
