Morning Girls!

Hope you all had a relaxing Easter weekend x

I was wondering if anybody had any experiences of Hypnobirthing?

I have read a couple of lovely stories in the Birth Announcements section and it sounds like something that I would love to try as I'm quite a panicky person and need something to try and keep me and my baby calm!

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Sarah x

For me it was amazing.

I also did yoga, which i shout from the roof tops, as to how amazing that was. I will tell you the truth, but the point the head was coming out I wasn't as quiet as you should be, i was a bit screaming. But to get to 10cm I was quiet, calme, and breating through the contractions. I had a natural birth only using gas and air for an hour, when I think I was 8-9cm.

I would suggest it, to help you through the begining, but for me it didnt get me to the end, but you never know you could be different.

Anything that helps you get oxygen in to your body, and down to your baby helps.

Thanks so much for replying littlemuffin!
Was beginning to think I'd posted this is the wrong section!

It sounds like you did amazingly well - if I manage to be as calm as that
I will be a happy bunny!

Thanks again x

I did the natal hypnotherapy cd and it helped me relax about the birth in the weeks before hand. I was able to get some decent sleep leading up to going into labour which I am really grateful for.

I did try it to keep me calm in labour but if I'm honest it went out of the window a bit. Though I didn't have a typical labour and had it been shorter I am confident I could have put it to use. It helped me st the beginning I.e up to 5cms dilated but I was having pains for 48 hours in total do I lost it a bit.

It's definitely worth a shot if you are a panicky sort of person, well for anyone really!

Thanks TORino!

It looks like it was all worth it - your baby is gorgeous!

Still hope my labour isn't THAT long...!

I have got a cd and have been listening to it since about 34 weeks, it definatly has made me alot calmer these last few weeks and made me think about giving birth in a different way, I will update how much it helps during as soon as this baby pops out! Soon I hope (sat bouncing on ball cooking curry as I type) :) xx

WOW good luck Beckyjane!!! I hope baby makes an appearance for you soon!

I would love to know if you think the technique helps you stay calm!

BEST WISHES XXX

Hi there. Have you heard of Daisy Birthing, it combines yoga inspired moves and birth hypnosis as well as giving you lots of information about birth and how it can be made more natural. Dont know if there are any classes near you but just check the Lazy Daisy website and local classes are listed. Give it a go, the first class is often free and then they are a very reasonable £9 per week:)

Hello! I did the Maggie Howell hb cd's (got the four of them off ebay for about 20quid!) Started around 24 weeks I think- found it useful to help me relax and stay calm about giving birth. I did listen to the cd's quite religiously up until about a week past my dd. LO didn't come until 17days late in the end after a complicated induction but I do think the cd's helped me to get thru it all! It was my first so I didnt know what to expect and it didn't work out how I wanted it to but I liked the idea of hb and I reckon it did help me prepare and get thru labour even tho it didn't go to plan! Good luck xx

Give it a try hon, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!!! the way I saw it was that even if it didnt work I'd be no worse off, but if it did help then I was gonna take any advantage I could lol!!!!! I was very lucky I had a textbook birth and the hypnobirthing made a huge differnece to me, but even if my birth hadnt gone to plan I think it would have still kept me calm and in control. Plus it was so relaxing listening to the CD when I was pregnant, I used to love that half an hour each day to just let go and relax!!!

I will say though that if you are going to do it then try and embrace it as much as you can dont ready any negative stories or think of the birth as being painful, also try and get your birthing partner on board as well, I could not have done it without the full support of my OH he was great and kept me going with teh relaxation triggers :)
Try and understand the process of labour as much as you can during any antenatal classes, if you understand what your body needs to do, then you will be able to relax and let it do its job, once I knew what contractions were and what they were doing I wasnt frightened of them and therefore didnt tense up etc so they never really 'hurt', yes they were intense but I loved it as I knew they were bringing me closer to meeting my bubba!!!!!

have you looked at the online hypnobirthing resources on the hypnobirthingdownloads website? Their mp3s are great and very reasonably priced and there's also an online hypnobirthing course to download and work through at home (videos + mp3s). Several mums I know have really benefitted from these.

It certainly helped me! Straight forward birth, just gas and air at the end. Midwives commented on how incontrol I was. baby was super calm throughout and has been since. Dont know if it was the breathing but I like to think it was. Wrote a super long birth story x sorry breastfeeding at mo, so only got one hand to type

Hi Sarah,
I'm a newbie to this forum, but I just wanted to agree with what some of the others have said. I did Hypnobirthing for my little boy and it was brilliant. It's definitely worth investigating to see what you think.

Hi, I haven't done hypnobirthing but did LAZY DAISy classes. I didn't attend anything with my first born but did with my 2nd (born in February 2012) my first birth was quite tramatic which is the reason I started classes this time round! they were simply AMAZING! They are yoga inspired so as far as I'm aware very similar to hypnobirthing/pregnancy yoga although they are SO educational! we did relaxation in it too! I cannot speak higher about the classes. My birth was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! My little girl from start to finish took 4 hours! I used all my techniques learnt in lazy daisy classes. I was completely at ease throughout and was actually on top of the world after having her! will definitely do them again!
check out there website. thelazydaisychain.

I have just signed up for the course, and cant wait for it to start!! had bought the book and CD off ebay, and downloaded some CD's from itunes onto my phone but havent listened to them since buying them, so i think i defo need to course.
Its £200, but will be worth it if it works!

Same as Torino, helped me get rid of anxiety beforehand, but I didn't even remember to take the CD out of the bag at the hospital. In fact, I couldn't remember my own name!

have got my first class tonight! we are doing the course in our own home to try to make us more comfortable. The only thing that is putting me off is the 2.5hr session! yikes. We paid £240 for 5/6 sessions, we were lucky as we got a 20% discount.

hubby still thinks its a load of old shite tho! haha

I'd love to know how you get on Lynds if you wouldn't mind updating when you have time?

I am leaning more towards the natal hypnotherapy now (very similar but seems slightly less Americanised) sadly in London the courses are extortionate!

I am also crap at hynopsis - I don't have the patience  or the 'vision'

yeah will let you know! might be tomorrow after work, as am totally pooped today running around getting house all tidy for the woman coming (she is a midwife too) so am prob going to go straight to bed once she goes.

Last time we met her she showed us a technique that dad can do on our backs when we are in labour to relax us and bring endorphins to the surface to ease back ache, and it is just genius! that is what finally convinced me to go for it. I just wonder how many more little tricks like that she can teach us. And of course it makes hubby feel more involved and that he has some control over things.

we could have got it free if we were prepared to travel a 100 mile round trip to a group class. A medical centre there is providing it free on the NHS instead of parentcraft classes!
Couldnt really be bothered going that far though.

will keep you posted. x

She comes to you???

So it is a one on one thing??

Amazing!

I'd def pay for that!

Update whenever you have time hun, hope it went well?

xxxxxxxx
