2nd labours easier??

I'm hoping that it just isn't harder lol! I had Ella at 35+5 and apart from her being a little prem and staying in special care I had an easy labour - just has and air, 6.5hrs start to finish, had ventouse at the end but no cuts or tears and no stitches. I'm hoping I'm as lucky this time but obviously he's going to be bigger as now I'm 39+1 x

Well so far this second one is certainly more drawn out. Had a sweep at 39+4 was 3cm dilated and could be stretched to 5cm. Contractions started a few hours later but have been stopping and starting for last 2 days and not yet in a regular pattern (now 39+6) x

oohh good luck it sounds like your close x

labour 1 - induced at 39+5 due to high bp - induction started at 5pm, waters broke 8pm - very strong contractions, epidural at 5am next day, labouring all day then emergency forced delivery (as in push without contractions, push between contractions, don't worry if you are tearing - baby's heart rate is dropping get him out!) he was born at 2.30pm and i had 3rd degree tear.

labour 2 - naturally stated contracting at 1.30am on 39+5 and stayed in bed until 6am - got up and had shower and got dressed - woke hubby up. Called grandparents at 7am to pick up son - 8am called hospital- contrations were 3 mins apart - so told to come when ready (went straight away) 10am checked and put on monitor and had big contraction that popped my waters - then was examined and told 5cm - went into delivery room - offered a water birth as pool was free - got in just after 11am and she was born at 1.30pm. I had no gas and air and no pain relief - only had paracetamol at 6.30am! lol

as your first labour sounds similar to my 1st....can i have your 2nd one please?? he he xx

My 1st was 5 hours start to finish at 39 weeks with some second degree tears and no pain relief. As she stitched me up the midwife told me to opt for a homebirth next time as she didn't think I'd make it to hospital in time!! FX!!

Well I had stop start contractions for a few days from 39+4 but labour started properly at 39+6 and it was quicker than my first - pains started at 9.30pm and he was born on due date at 12.14am so 2.75 hours total, was probably more intense but managed on gas and air and got away without stitches again (despite him being bigger at 8lbs3) x

My MIL said she had a longer and worse birth with my OH and he was lighter and smaller. She was in longer the second time as a posed to the first. Both were boys..

Tink everyone is different although I do hear a lot of people say their second is easier. My mum said her births got better with each one of us, I was the worst I came face first, ouch xxxxx

My Mum's labours got easier - so by number 4 (my youngest brother) he just kind of popped out LOL!

xxxxxxx

My friend is on her 5th and the midwives have advised a home birth as each baby has got quicker!!! Last baby arrived 45mins after 1st contraction xxx

i had to be induced ay 37+6 and had her the next day just b4 lunch the midwife said good labour for my first 5hours 3 mins on gas and air and one contuious stitch but went well, just wondering the same thing what my second labour will be like when i get pregnant that is starting ttc next month x

Oh my goodness, I hope so! Sophia started on a Tuesday and she wasn't born till the Friday night!!!

My second was easier physically, but bloody rough mentally  1st was 23h, 2nd went from having a few bh to ooo this hurts a bit to shit the baby's coming in the space of an hour! Active labour was only classed as 3 mins:shock: I did get 3rd degree tears with both tho! I've been told if I have any more it'll be a planned home birth with members of the family trained up and midwives camping in my garden

I came into this forum to look for a thread like this! I to am not thinking about another baby no way! I am at the stage where Kaelan is still going to be an only child although I always wanted 2. My labour was slow but the pain was bearable until about 7cm. It's the pushing the honestly scares the shit out of me, for me that pain was unbelievable bad, i still think about it on a daily basis. I had 2 degree tears and I couldn't stand up while holding Kaelan for the first week as the pain was to much while holding his extra weight. People say the second is easier because you know what to expect, but for me it's the total opposite, since I know what to expect I am more nervous, ignorance is bliss!

I am the total opposite!

I hated labour, found my contractions very hard to cope with (I was in slow labour for 36 hours at home and got to 5cm though without anything)

Things were slightly better when I got to the hospital as I went to the active birth centre but I didn't progress and ended up on the labour ward.

I was in shit loads of pain anyway but I had my water broken and I was put on the drip to speed things up and I really thought I was going to die.

Pushing him out was a pleasure compared to the actual labour

xxxxxxxx

1st: awful, 17h labour, had every pain relief going, ventouse delivery, I was prepped in theatre for an emergency c section but thankfully we got her out.
2nd: fine, 5h labour, pethadine and normal delivery
3rd: tBA. Lol
Xx

I think it's usually better...my 1st was 46 hours. Only intense for 3 1/2 hours...but 2 nights of being awake before starting the task of recouping and recovery/healing (from stitches) didn't spell for energy in the first week :)
All worth it for a healthy bubs though x

I hope its shorter if not easier! Mine was 53hrs with 3minutely contractions from the start. Was only in hosp for final 8hrs tho, so even tho it was painful and long and spent over 12hrs in the bath I wouldn't complain about having it again. Loved it! Very excited about no 2 :o) only 23weeks to.go!

My first was just less than an hour after being induced but very painful second was 9 hours after waters went but not half as painful! X

My first was 32 hours and c-section, so im hoping my second one will be a little more straight forward :D
