why don't people mind there own flammin business!

When I was pregnant I really wanted to breastfeed but Nathan was 5 weeks early and just wouldnt suck from my breast (shame with the amount of milk I had there ) lol

I tried for a week and a half but he just wouldnt do it and I was fed up and he was losing weight so I decided to try him with a bottle and he would drink that and I could see how much he was getting.

It felt like the right decision at the time. If I could go back now then I would have tried harder to breastfeed but he's happy with a bottle and aslong as he's happy and healthy then it dosent matter how he gets fed imo :)

im not trying to argue, ive stated my opinion sorry if thats seen as "putting people down for breastfeeding when I have failed"

a few snyde comments back but im above it.

no comments above were directly aimed at you cassi. why would you think that?

I too have found negative attitudes and lack of support. In hossie I hadnt slept for 2 days and I was the only one on the ward BFing. I'm nearly in tears with tiredness and a screaming hungry baby whilst the rest of the ward dumped their babies with the midwives at night. Nobody came over to help and the one time I did buzz for help I was told to calm my baby down first then they didnt bother coming back. After several hours of trying to get him to latch on on my own I asked for a bottle, should have seen how fast they moved then
I said maybe i need shields, they told me to try it.
At home MW told me baby was confused by nipple/shields/bottle/dummy, none od which i was warned about. She tried for half hour to get him on with no joy so we tried the shields and got him on briefly. She even came back later on to see how he was doing. He now wont go on at all so is bottle fed expressed milk and has formula as I dont produce enough.

Mostly I hear "youre not feeding him yourself are you??" The very first MW when still in the delivery suite said breastfeeding takes a lot of time and complete dedication NOT here let me help you...

At the mo he is on formula as i'm on antibiotics. GP said he'd be fine with breastmilk he'd just get a dose of antibiotics. However he got a very upset tum with them and I had 2 solid days of screaming so I'm expressing but tipping it away.

Each to their own, our system suits me, I can see how much he's getting and he's happy enough with a mix of the two. So long as baby is happy and thriving then thats all that counts :)

Hi all

Well my personal oppionion on the matter is whats best for the mother is best for the baby, some people find breastfeeding or even the thought of it very daunting for one reason or another, which can cause alot of stress.
And a stressed mother is a stressed baby which is not good.

How you chose to feed your baby is a personal choice that only you can make. When you see someone feeding there baby (whether breast or bottle) you will have no idea why they made that choice so I think it is very unfair to judge someone when you have no idea of the reasons behind it.

Cassi tbh I think your comment about Tashas sig is alittle unfair, I know you tried very hard to breastfeed Jakob and I understand that it can be upsetting for you but I'm sure you understand that tasha is only trying to show that she is proud of herself as I'm sure you to are proud of everything you accomplish with Jakob, and I am sure if you hadn't have had such a tough time yourself (which I'm truly sorry for)you to would have had a simular sig yourself.

Also Tasha we don't have a certain section for breastfeeding but there is a Breastfeeding support thead in the feeding and nutrietion section.

Nope I wouldnt have a signature like that....id put i was proud yes, like I have for bottle feeding, but not one that made out it put me in a 'better class'. It would be like me putting a sig saying "bottle feeding, its the best" im sure people would frown up on that and say "but its easy, you havnt given youre son his weight, formula has"

Ho hum im not going to argue though, each to their own, im just stating my 2 pence :)

Not directly attacking anyone.

Thankyou very much Suz for your comments and I will use that thread the in the future.

yeah i agree. i think it was a bit of an attack on Tasha and everyone else who chooses to breastfeed and display a signature. I thikn you sounded a bit aggresive cassi.

Just wanted to say I agree with Alfiesmummy.

I think people comment on everything you do and when you are a new mum this can be soooo annoying!!! It definately is damned if you do damned if you don't. Believe me one day i had mum telling me to keep daughter wrapped up and MIL telling me she was too warm I was caught between a rock and a hard place!!!

I think if you are happy Tasha with what you are doing then keep doing it - you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I think this is a very emotivie topic and I can understand where Cassi is coming from (as I also understand where other people are coming from). I think most people Tash would be proud of what you have achieved and my experience of HV and MW would be that they would think that if you have exclusively BF for that amount of time then you are doing a good job

Note my last post. There is a BIG difference between signatures saying I breast feed and Im proud, to putting signatures saying "breast feeding is the gold class" or "breast feeding is best" or "breast feeding is what babies were born to do" "or breast feeding is the proper way"

They are all signatures made to say "breast feeding is better than bottle feeding"

So I am in NO way attacking anyone for having a "proud to breastfeed" signature, when I was breast feeding I had one, and now im bottle feeding I have my bottle feeding signature.

If you take the time to read my posts properly, this isnt hard to see.

ladies, ladies, can everyone calm down please?!
at the end of the day I dont care what mum breastfeeds and wot mum bottlefeeds, so long as the baby in question is well nourished and not hungry - who gives a monkeys what people say???
dear me girls, no need to get into a state!!

Completely agree with the above, I dont care how babies are fed, as long as they are fed :D

There is worse things like parents that let their babies starve to death..read it in the papers the other day, the poor baby was 10 months old and died weighing 10lbs!!!! The parents say they "didnt notice the weight loss" and then went on to say " we couldnt afford to feed her" they had 3 other children! the dad gambled all the money and the mom boozed it away! she was found dead on a cold floor in just a nappy that hadnt even been changed for ages ...

where the hell were health visitors? social services? ANYONE?????

so as long as the children are fed...i dont give 2 monkeys how!

ps:the parents only got 5 years in prison,

The thing is though nowhere in my first posting does it say anything about whats been argued about, lol I just wanted some imput from other breastfeeding mums about the stick we get too.

In noway was it aimed at anyone else, it was just between other breastfeeding mums who have been thru similar things.

I was only expecting answers from bfing mums as they understand, which is why I dont understand how its come to all this sillyness

Ohh no thats so sad i never read that, i hate reading the news it makes me so sad, some sickos out there :(

i was just about to say that tasha :?

I know what you are saying Tasha but it doesn't say in your topic only breastfeeding mums can reply and with respect I think some people were just trying to give the other side of the argument - for example Alfiesmummy.

As Cassi has just said lets just celebrate the fact that we are all loving mums and move on. :D

Then I hope that draws a line under it.

I refer to my earlier post, we're all makig the same points!

And we agree a well-fed baby is the most important thing, no matter how it gets there or what other people think. :D

this thread should have been titled " breast feeding mums" then as its only wasting other peoples time by reading it
