Hey everyone.

I thought I should start looking in here a bit more as we are now at 2 years ttc.

Anyway I have had all the blood tests done which have come back clear so doctor referred me to a fertility specialist (husband also had his sperm checked). First apt was a few months back which was basically a chat and I was advised to book in for an hsg and then I am to go back in dec for further chat and discuss the results.

So.... Hsg's are only done on a tue and thur at the hospital I go to and ideally it needs to be done between days 5 and 10. 2 periods ago I phoned up to book this hsg on day 1 only to be 'sorry the consultant is on leave, call back next month'

Today the AF appeared so I phoned up this morning to book for this month. Could not believe it when the lady said 'sorry the consultant is on leave' needless to say I got a little upset and put the phone down on the poor lady. I know it is not her fault but I am so frustrated and find it amazing that there is only one consultant doing the test.

After a good old cry on husbands shoulder he phoned up to apologise to the lady, I was too embarrassed! My apt to see the consultant in dec now needs to be put back (and there was quite a wait from memory) as well as no point going if I've not even had the hsg.

Sorry just realised how long this is but thought I would explain where I am at.

I know I can get pregnant as had a miscarriage at 12 weeks, 3 years ago.

So there we are, that's me! Boy does it feel good writing it all down! Xx

Hiya Niknak :)

You situation with the consultant sounds like bloody joke to me.

How the hell does a doctor get 2 months leave without them having got a replacement in?!

There must be another fertility unit that you can be referred to from your GP - i'd go back and ask him because that consultant could be on leave forever if it's depression or stress or whatever he is suffering from.

Good luck getting it sorted xx

Hey Louise b

Thankyou for replying x

Well...apparently the first time was leave and this time was study leave. Not something you want to hear however! My hubby did phone back and ask if we could get the gag done at another hospital nearby but apparently that is not possible. It's so annoying as I do understand people are entitled to leave etc but I naively thought there would be more than one consultant to do the check.

Fingers crossed for next month! X

Hi Niknak

Your situation sounds incredibly frustrating! I have been in a similar situation several times with the unit at my hospital, I waited 3 months to have an operation this summer, and after the operation I was told it went well. A few weeks later I was told it went wrong and they actually did nothing, as it was the wrong kind of operation. I didn't even get an apology.

Its ridiculous that you have to wait so long - no wonder you are upset. The NHS make me soooo angry. Have you looked into getting it done privately? Maybe just that and then keep your appointment with the consultant? It could be expensive but you never know. Not that you should have to resort to spending lots of cash (this is why they annoy me!).

Hope you get some answers soon xxxxx
