Hi Ladies,

These of you whose waters naturally broke on their own can you tell me what it felt like/what happened?

I just felt a massive pop/ping against cervix and then baby started going mad headbutting cervix for 5 mins. Not had any gush so layed down for 20 mins in case it was waters and he was blocking any leaks, feel like I have a serious amount of watery discharge down there but when I got up and went to bathroom just now nothing leaked out so assuming it can't of been waters?

My water never broke last pregnancy, they had to break it for me once I was in active labour so I have no idea what happens if it breaks on its own or if it is possible to have a slow leak rather than a gush etc....

Tri hopping, mine went when I was asleep in bed. It felt an elastic band twanging, I was half awake and went to sit up...gushed everywhere! Thank goodness I had one of those mats under the sheets.

I think you'd probably have gushed when you moved but might be worth putting a pad on to monitor...I believe waters smell quite sweet...x

Elastic band twanging is exactly what it felt like! Been trying to rack my brains for best way to describe it but that is spot on! Yeah I thought it would gush too that is why I think I am just being silly but I have no idea what else it could be, just so odd!

You're so near the end I'd keep an extra eye...you may have a slow leak! Could be the start of things! xx

I have put a pad on now just to see what happens, just went for a wee and could hear and feel something dripping out from somewhere pee definitely doesn't come from (!) but was only a few drops so not too sure what is going on but guess time will tell! Thanks hun x

When I went into labour with my daughter I woke up with contractions during the night but as I got out of bed my waters went too - felt like I was weeing but had no control over it. Didn't know until I was delivering in hospital that it was my hind waters that had gone - hence the trickle and not a gush! Xx

Mine kind of uncontrollably gushed out and onto the floor as I jumped out of bed but if yours hasn't, it may be the hind waters? Also smells sweet x

Just sat here and baby started wiggling around like a loon and a few trickles of liquid have come out so will go check pad in a mo to make sure it wasn't wee....... x

No big wet patches but can still feel trickling and when investigating (tmi) I seem to have extremely watery discharge. Going to go to bed as am knackered and assume if it is waters it will leak properly in night or I will get contractions and then I will know! :)

It felt to me like I was weeing but had no control! Just be careful if it is waters as if you go over 24 hours since they've broken you're at risk of an infection. Hope it gets moving for you soon :) xxx

My hind waters went first both times but only when I was already in labour. I didn't feel it happening except for a sudden trickle. It continued to trickle once in a while, sometimes anough to trickle down my leg but not very much.

If you rang the hospital they would probably tell you to go in to get checked. Personally I would avoid going to hospital to get checked if my waters went because once they do an internal it increases the risk of infection by a lot so it puts you on the clock to be induced. Sometimes it takes a little longer to go into labour naturally but it is unusual for it not to happen fairly soon. I would be comfortable to wait more like 72 at home as long as I had no sign of a fever. I feel strongly about avoiding induction and other interventions if at all possible, not everyone would mind so much so go with what you are comfortable with.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I only woke up 20 mins ago, still feel wet down there but no leaking in night so assuming it is either hind waters and baby being a big plug or it is just very very watery discharge. Got a very sore back this morning, baby putting a lot of pressure on cervix today and feeling slightly crampy so will just have to see if it turns into anything throughout the day. I am kind of reluctant to go sit in hospital for hours and ask them to do a swab as I have seen quite a few people on here lately who had lost waters but swab was negative so seems kind of pointless getting checked if it isn't reliable! If I don't go into early labour by tonight I will make a decision though but been as pad isn't wet I think they would probably say it wasn't waters anyway x

Tri hopping!

My hind waters went at 1st.

I was already in hosp, at 7cms by that point.
Told the mw i was weeing the bed lol!
Then she leaned in to look at it literally went POP! And front waters gushed everywhere which were full of meconium ERGH!
She was covered bless her, as for the bed & floor  lol. So thankful it didnt happen at home or in the car!

H this is exactly what happened to me! Go get checked! Babies head cpuld he so low it could be stopping the gushing. I sat up and had once gush. After that my pad was damp never drenched but i always felt leaking when i stood up. when i went to hospital they did the spectrum test on me... but because there was no water in the spectrum she said it mustve been discharge... im sure you seen the pic? She said it wasnt 100% as i could have a very small leak coming from the top trickling down. I later went into labour and when she was checking me she was abke to tell me it was ny waters. I dread to think what couldve happened if i didnt start getting pains. Xx

Yeah I saw your post hun but you had quite a big wet patch on the bed where as all I have had is a tiny little trickle here and there that isn't making pad wet which is why I am thinking it is probably just watery discharge, not sure what to think tbh. They told you yours wasn't waters when it blatantly was so god knows what they would say about mine... xx

H, when mine went with a gush, I didn't feel or hear anything other than the waters down my legs x

Id just be concerned abput the pop you had. Not everyones goes with a gush. Could be a slow leak just. Id definayely keep a close eye on it today xx
