I'm thinking about having a water birth, and was just wondering if any of you lovely ladies has had one before, and what your experience was like?

I had a waterbirth & couldn't recommend it enough. was in labour 4 hours & 58 minutes and only used gas & air for the last hour. As soon as I got in the water the pain relief was amazing xx

I had one - was very lucky.
Dont get me wrong - the whole experience smarted abit - but the feeling of giving birth in the water was fab.
Providing you dont have meconium in ur water u should b ok to have one. The MW comes in every hour or so to check babies heartbeat so have to stand up - but generally there is very little intervention so you can be supported by you birth partners without someone in and out evry 2 mins.

You can have snacks in there, read a mag and I firmly believe the pain is reduced by the water making u feel lighter. I only had gas n air until 6 cm dilated.

U do have to get out to take a wee...lol and can only have gas n air as pain relief in there.

Any questions - pls ask :)

I didn't get to finish in the water, as I didn't dilate quick enough, but the time I did spend in was amazing. It's a great pain reliever. Im def gonna try for a full water birth next time.
Xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Hi Hun
They are amazing, I'm sure it's not as good as an epidural but it really does relax you :)
My midwife stayed with me the whole time and I stayed in the water when heart beat was checked and internal.
They are a completely hands off way of giving birth, the midwife really only gives verbal guidance and catches the baby lol
Xx

Thanks ladies.
I had no pain relief first time round, so there is no worries there about only needing to use gas and air =)

Aww I want a water birth this time if I can. It was my plan last time but because Ella was early I had to be monitored throughout so there was no chance of it!

Can you have a waterbirth with your 1st baby?xx

Im defo considering a water birth, thanx for advice xxx

I would love a waterbirth, I don't know yet how many pools there are at the hospital so just hoping it's not a busy day when I go into labour!! x

There is only one at my hospital, but then there is only one labour room anyway! I live in a small place though so thats why x

I think I want to try a water birth. Pretty terrifying to think I can't have an epidural but I really wana give the water a go.
There's 2 pools at my hospital so hopefully I can give it a go x

I was desperate for a waterbirth, unfortunately I couldn't have the baby in the water as he was back to back and there were complications, but the time I spent in the pool was lovely and I'd highly recommend it. I don't think there are any negatives about a waterbirth  None that I've ever heard of, anyway.

I'm opting for a water birth is everything lets me!!

We have 2 pools in the birthing unit and one in the labour ward, which are all in the same building!

I'm a water baby so I'm hoping I can do it with water, gas and air!

Fingers crossed my man behaves and I can have him in the water!! :)

im also thinkin of having a water birth but i would like some answers first!
ive read its very hands off and the midwife talks you through labour, with this in mind im scared incase the cord is wrapped round babys neck and she doesnt see?
also scared incase baby breathes while still in the water.. whats the chances of this?

its hands off in the sense that they will let baby float up if possible, but they are very vigilant in watching if there are probs, and will ask you to stand or get out of the water if they think there is a problem.

its not possible for LO o take first breath under water. remember they are in a sack of "waters" - so are just going from one liquid to another - the lungs dont inflate until they have been out of water.

I wanted one both times but pool was busy 1st time but I couldnt use it anyway lo was back to back and had to have episiotomy due to his heart rate dropping and second time she didnt get chance to fill it up it was too quick but my sister had her first that way she said it was amazing and basically delivered her own baby mw just watched I was so jelous.

I think I'm concisdering a water birth, the midwife at the antenatal class was very positive about it. In my hospital you have 1 to 1 constant care with a midwife during any labour, but in the pool they give you 2. I really think I'll look up on it...xx

I went for a MLBU and a pool because I heard you had more MW attention, but I'm afraid it was the opposite :(
