Water birth

I think I'm concisdering a water birth, the midwife at the antenatal class was very positive about it. In my hospital you have 1 to 1 constant care with a midwife during any labour, but in the pool they give you 2. I really think I'll look up on it...xx
I went for a MLBU and a pool because I heard you had more MW attention, but I'm afraid it was the opposite :(

Eeeekkkk! I'm very lucky at my hospital because the labour ward is fantastic, but the aftercare ward is horriffic...!!!x

What do u wear in the water
Birthday suit! OH was mentioning bikini tops, what a fool! As if I cared about my boobs being out when everyone had their hands in foof, and I thought I was dying anyway :D

I was in the pool to start with, but there were complications and had to be wheeled off to the regular labour ward.

I began with a vest top which soon got removed and I wore nothing! x

I spent about 6 hours in the pool and it was fab! Don't remember much pain whilst I was in there! Unfortunately I couldn't stay as I could wee :( But will def use it again this time round!

Lolol .. Thats wat im like worring about a top and my mom said whats the point nothing they havnt seen befor.. U wont care wen ur in labour loool!
I deffo hope theres no other preggys ib thr pool wen i want it loool i will have a belly offff!!!!!

I've got a birthing pool for pain relief at home, as our bath is far too small to relax in whilst in labour (which I found out last time lol) but I'm really considering a water birth. Can anyone recommend a website that gives you the best info or someone to speak to? x x

I had a water birth with my second baby, was a fabulous experience, could not recommend it enough!

Yes, it is fairly hands off, baby "swam" out into my hands and I brought her up to the surface...... It was just perfect :)

Had no pain relief, no stitches, no negatives at all. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

I can honestly say I totally enjoyed my water birth :)

I wanted a water birth for my home birth and I was in the pool for about an hour, but got out because my contractions, which had been coming thick and fast, had slowed down a lot and I was getting impatient. I eventually gave birth out of the water because my contractions sped up after I got out. I enjoyed the water a lot and I had no pain relief at all beyond two paracetamol in early labour. Because I had a home birth, my midwives were really hands-off even whilst I gave birth out of the water. They just watched mostly, talking me through it, and helped just to catch the baby. It was definitely worth labouring in water just for a while, and I'm sure giving birth in water would have been lovely. x

definately would recommend it! I had one and needed no other pain relief (not even gas and air) so much more natural - wasn't on my birth plan, but I had such bad back pain, the midwife went to see if the pool was free - and it was - so lucky there. I got in at around 10.30am and got out at 1.30am with my baby ;) - and strangely I wasn't like a wrinkled prune when I got out which I thought was weird.

Ooohhh!!! Reading all this really makes me want a water birth now xxz

Thank you everyone for your feedback, I've decided I definitely want a water birth now :)
Going to speak to my midwife about it at my next appointment. I've started to look into hypno birthing as well, heard its meant to be good. I'm determined Ican do this on my own with no pain relief lol, fx xxx

I would love a water birth, especially having SPD, I'm hoping it will help with the pain.

I have to see an anesthetist in August to discuss my options as I have a pre-existing back injury.

I don't even know if they have pools in my hospital though? :eh:

When does the midwife start talking about your birthing plan?

If they don't have pools you can hire one.

My midwife still hasn't talked to me about my birthing plan, I just got on with it myself!

I used this NHS website which was really helpful as you can write in your own comments as well as using the ticky boxes: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/birth-plan.aspx xx

I was never asked about a birth plan, just mentioned the pool first thing when I got to the hospital.

I'm hoping to be in the birthing centre, where all rooms have a massive bath thingy.

But I def also want to look into a birthing pool.

A few questions though:

Is is hygeinic? I know you get out to use the loo but what if have any accidents?

What do you wear?

xxxxxxx

Iv heard the scoop out any accidents, with a kind of net thing.

I'm taking my tankini
