So I know a few of us have started this with our LO's

And have questions etc, so I thought we could have a thread to share questions and experiences on without it turning into a debate over TW and blw

So, if u don't want to do TW or don't agree withit don't post or even bother reading! Thank u!

I will start!
This morning O ate a whole reduced sugar rusk mixed with formula he he
He loved it :) I love that he loves his food :)

Great idea!

Simone, I am guessing it means traditiona weaning... Correct me if I am wrong!

Just wondering when most of you started tw or are planning to start tw? Have been dong some research and on the Health Canada website (I am Canadian), the only real benefit to baby to wait until 6 months listed is a reduction in gastrointestinal infections. However I read that the gut matures basically when the tongue thrust reflex goes away which is between 4 and 6 months. Health Canada says that there is no evidence that introducing foods before 6 months has anything to do with increased allergies. So surely if baby takes food off the spoon, she is ready to eat! I am not sure when I will start, but K has been slow at gaining weight and I am hoping solids will help her get a little chunkier lol.

I started at 4 months and 2 weeks old now he is 5months and on breakfast and tea.

Vince had a bit of banana and apple puree today, swished it around in his mouth is a more accurate way of putting it though! I'm quite sure he was interested, he kept opening his mouth and sticking his tongue out to taste it, but hasn't quite got the hang of swallowing more solid food yet.

That sounds promising. Phoebe did this at first, she's start with only a few mouthfulls of what I gave her and then gradually started eating more and now she finishes the whole bowl.

I started weaning Phoebe at 4.5months and started on Cow&Gate porridge, she has this every morning and has tea too. For tea she either has something home made (depending on how much spare time I've had) or she sometimes has half of an Ella's Kitchen sachet. I intend to start adding lunch when she is 6 months old. :) great thread Laura x

I started E at round the 4 month mark, this was actually on my doctors advice as she was slow to put on weight. I started out giving her part of a finely mashed banana and she ate it all up. She has eaten ever thing I have given her to try and never spat any out or not even swallowed it. Think I have been lucky. She is now on 3 meals a day and has been since 6 months old.

Aww well done O :yay: Phoebe only manages half a pouch too but its good cos then I can put the rest in the fridge for her to have the next day. It says you can freeze them on the back too which is good :)

Ooh I didn't read that. That's good! O has breakfast and lunch as it works well with us when we move in 2 weeks we r introducing his 3rd meal in the eve with us! Eek

We have just bought £30 worth of Ella's Kitchen pouches, most of which are the 7month + ones that we will be trying out next week. I like using it as it handy and can be taken out with me where ever I go. I admire you ladies who make your own foods for your LO. I will be making E's when she is a bit older and having what we have, but for now it is just easier for me to use the pouches and she seems to really love them. I shall let you know how we get on with the others next week :D.

Oh, I do give E bits of cut up apple, banana and avocado in one of those Nuby Nibblers and she loves chewing on them.

Manda, I think it was you who posted on another thread that your doctor advised you to wean early to help your lo gain weight. Just wondering if it helped? K is 15 weeks and less than 11lbs. She is 96 percentile for length and 5th for weight. I plan on talking to our doc about it but her next appointment isn't until she is 18 weeks. Xx

I don't want this to be a discussion, just a link to some info ppl can take or leave. If anyone is thinking about TW and wants to read some of the research behind the "reccomended" starting age of 6 months I always use Cochrane Reviews). I use them when I'm trying to find the best evidence-based way to do things in my job as a nurse (and as a citation in my million plus essays) and I used the same resource when making my decision about weaning, as listening to my instinct as a mother obviously!

Anyway...I bought some Ella's kitchen sachets while I was out and about today. Apple, pear and baby rice (yes BABY RICE) flavour he loved! This is a picture of Lewis yesterday btw :)
