**The No Sleep Club**

Oh Emilia this is getting ridiculous isn't it?

Same old story here, every 2 hours

I MUST make more effort to put him back into his own bed while he is still a little bit awake. IF I am still awake enough to remember to move him, he's usually fast asleep and this won't help matters as when he stirs after an hour or so he'll want to be where he was when he went to sleep.

Dummy no good for me either, I may as well give it up as it's not been an instant solution. I also had a small glass of wine last night. Grrrrrrr

I must admit it's kind of reasurring that we're both in the same boat. As soon as I turn my computer on and see you have posted it lifts my spirits as we are both helping each other!

why did you have to set your alarm dionne?

hi kim, because she was only 5lb 5oz and her weight dropped even more after birth but i was adimant she was not staying in hospital, so she had to be feed every 2hrs no matter what and have her suger levals taken every 2nd day... nightmare! i wish i hadnt tryed to be a super mum and just let her stay in hospital.

Yes... I feel the same!! :D There must be a little telepathy between us!! LOL :D
I'm totally out of ideas.... don't even know what I'm thinking anymore. You, Urchin

Urchin... forgot to ask - would you consider "sleep training"?
I have mixed feelings about it, but suspect that it's something I would now have to seriously consider.... the thought brings tears to my eyes.... like I said before, I'm just a big softy, but also lacking the emotional support whilst doing it.

Going to search web for some clues, but in the meantime.... learn about "acceptance"!!! LOL :D :D

ps. Oscar sleeping at moment. Swaddled him and he settled much quicker than at any other time!

Seren still waking up every couple of hours, its getting so I can set my watch by her. I knopw I am making a rod for my back just putting her on the boob but I am too tired to do anything else. Am putting her in her own room at 5 months so going to try new things then.

Sorry that you're not getting much rest either, Beanie!! :( :(

Oscar is so use to getting boobie when he wants.... I honestlty feel sozzled when I wake during the night, too. Can't even consider sitting up, feeding and putting him back in his bed again.

Any first time "mums-to-be" wanting a shot of Oscar for a night? :D :D

Ok... as I type, Oscar is feeding. We've had boob, a couple of spoons of babyrice, playtime, nice deep bath and now boobie.
I gathered that the toothy pegs are being really troublesome and also gave Oscar 2ml Calpol.

He's wrapped up.... it's raining outside.... perfect circumstances for perfect sleep! I'm hopeful.... uhmmm.... heard that one before!!

If all else fails, at least it Sunday tomorrow - my day for lying in and listening to Sunday Love Songs with Steve Wright. :D :D

Na'night

Hiya again girls!

Brody had a 2 hour sleep today!!!!

Also 3 meals, lots of playtime and lots of boob.

However, it seems everyday I have a reason to think he'll sleep alot, be it because of milk/food intake, or his sleeps, behaviour during the day or whatever. Like you Emilia I end up getting my hopes up, only to have them dashed when he wakes up 2 hours later.

He's awake now after a short nap (all routine seems to be going to pot as the SA In-Laws are here and we have to make sure we are available to them all the time as they are only here for 1 week it's only fair)

Fingers crossed he'll have a bit of formula now and go to sleep for the rest of the night (have had a glass of wine again...what is it with south africans and wine emilia!?

Not going good here. Seren tok a while to settle, then woke up at 11.30. She has settled down again after having both boobs, but is asleep in my bed. Doubt I'll be getting much shut eye tonight.

Surprisingly.... I feel as if I had some sleep last night!!! :D
How, I don't know... :?
Oscar went down brilliantly just before 8pm.... woke at 9.45.... fed him and kept him in bed with me.... woke at 1.30am and then chomped the night away.
Maybe I'm getting use to it, I don't know!! :D

Urchin... Brave woman for having glass of wine!!! I was so tempted last night, but ended up having 2 cups of Rooibos tea instead. I grew up in the winelands (Stellenbosch) and I think instead of our parents kindly giving us water, they weaned us on plonk... just to make sure that we get the hang of a descent Pinotage from an early age!!! :D :D Of course, the price of wine in UK will have to become a talking point..... by the way Urchin, I haven't received your offer on the house yet!!!

Beanie... hugs to you too!!! What could possibly be waking our children up? I am so grateful that I'm not alone in this matter!!!! However, I know we'll crack this at some point..... sadly, it's probably likely to be around their 10th birthday!!!

I hope your nights turned out good Beanie and Urchin, I've a funny feeling Brody did really well last night........ uhm, then again, maybe not?
I'm off to bed - it's bucketing down here!!!

Hiya Emilia
I just showed my hubby your post and he said to tell you he used to manage "The Dros" pub in Stellenbosch!

Brody was up every 2 hours still, I'm shattered!

LOL :D :D If that pub could talk!!! :D :D Incidently... can your DH remember throwing out a drunken Scotsman ?? LOL

Sorry you had bad night!!! :(

sorry, Beanie!! :(
Any other suggestions?

Right Emilia what is the plan of action for this evening?

Tonight I am determined to let Brody cry a little before I pick him up. My problem is in the middle of the night I'm so out of it I don't remember picking him up and half the time I'm sure he would probably go back to sleep if I left him.
Then, I'm so tired I go back to sleep before putting him back in his crib, so the next time he makes a little noise I'm sticking my boob back in his mouth before giving him the chance to settle on his own.

I'll try tonight to give him a few more minutes before trying to feed him. (although it's all very well saying all this but lets see if I remember it at 3 am!)

That might be the way forward, Urchin!

Oscar went down with a wee bit of a struggle. Less than an hour later... AWAKE!! Cuddled him back to sleep, put back in his crib..... 5 mins later, awake again!!! Picked him up - brought him through to the kitchen where DH and I are chatting. He fell asleep after a minute on the boob and now asleep in his buggy.
Looks like I'm in for a treat tonight!!! :wall:

Will just wheel him through to our bedroom later.
I really don't know what's going on. I do absolutely everything to create the perfect bedtime routine.
I will try and leave Oscar, but he can be really vocal.... LOUD might be a better word!! Hard to put up with crying when so tired, but it must be done!

Let me know how you get on. I think we're close to exhausting every avenue!!
Keeping all fingers and toes crossed for a good night sleep for all of us!
Emilia xx

Emilia, if you want my really honest opinion, I would stop cuddling and boobing him to sleep in the evening (i'm still stuck a bit doing this in the night so I know exactly how you feel). I have been there and done that, but they must learn first how to get themselves to sleep then to keep themselves asleep. Brody has mastered phase one, but is still a little stuck on phase 2

Oscar was a good sleeper until about a month ago, but you're right - I have to sort this out.
He has just woken up again - DH has got him for a minute. Something is obviously bothering him. Until recently, he would go to sleep at 8pm and only wake around 2am and then 4/5am.
I can't imagine what broke the pattern.... very frustrating.

I can't believe that I've had 2 kids before Oscar - was quite firm and my daugther slept through from 5 weeks. Never had this prob and now, I've turned into such a softy - picking a stick for my own backside!!! I know!!! :( :D

It really had gotten to a ridiculous stage now. DH said earlier that we'll get through it and ofcourse, we will. However, it's tiring and exhausting. I haven't lost my patience or had a moment of madness, but it is unneccessary to carry on like this!

Will keep you posted.
na' nite
Emilia xx

Oops... was meant to say that "I haven't lost my patience or had a moment of madness yet". I'm very relaxed with Oscar - it's the situation that's a bit maddening.

Hi

Sorry to hear Brody and Oscar are still party animals at night, you're right Emilia it is so exhausting when you can't get any decent sleep at night.

Olivia has been a bit poorly the last couple of days and not been feeding as much. She now has a tendency to really arch her back away from the boob during the day then scream and scream so I'm going to get it checked out at the doc, I'm wondering if she has some tightness in her neck or something (it's amazing to see her on her tummy she lifts her head so high off the ground but perhaps a bit too much, she looks like she'll be touching her bottom with her head soon  ) This means she's feeding more at night :?

However, we've made some progress I think, her cluster feeding in the evening has reduced to about an hour and I feed her in her bedroom with a nice relaxing baby Mozart CD on. This means she's going to bed earlier (9ish) so DH and I get some evening together :D

I hope we all get some rest tonight, looking forward to hear about it tomorrow !
