Has anyone not really thought about this until now when we actually are facing doing it!!? :eh:

I think when we were TTC, I just kept thinking about getting pregnant and now that I am actually pregnant, I keep thinking OMG I am actually going to have to give birth!! :shakehead:

Yeah its a bit scary but it has to be done ;)

You have a while yet to prepare, so have I :)

I refuse to think about it until much nearer the time - won't even watch those 'One born every minute' programmes - I don't want to know thank you very much! I think there are 2 types of people when it comes to labour - those who want to find out as much as possible, watch video's, go to classes, read up about it...and those who think ignorance is bliss! I am definitely the second category - I know I will have to go through it, but women have been doing it for thousands of years, it's a natural process, so I'll just take it as it comes as I find finding out about it makes me more anxious! xx

I have to say, yes it's painful but I could do it 100 times again! Both my labours were easy and as long as you listen to your body your be fine! I've done both of mine on just gas and air but if you can take whatever pain relief they offer!
I'm actually jealous of everyone in tri 1 cos your pregnant and will experience pregnancy and birth again whereas I won't :(
Your be fine x x

I would say I was in the first category, but I'm like that with most things. I love to get stuck into researching what things mean, what could happen etc. Had to turn one born at christmas off though, the screaming was going right through me ;) I watched all of the episodes of one born every minute.

I'm right there with you Amanda. I don't really care to find out all the grisly details prior to actually experiencing it. Oh sure, I'll probably pick up a wee bit once I'm closer to the due date, but as of now, I'm quite content just reading up on what the bean is doing weekly :)

A little off topic, but I am SO jealous that you guys have the option of gas & air. We don't have that in the states :( The only thing that I have already decided about birth is that I'll be having an epidural.

The thought scared me at first but now im ready for it. Im definately one of those people who wants to find out everything they possibly can. I love the griuzzly details :) xxx

I'm not even pregnanct yet and i'm petrified, one of the reasons I think I always said I didn't want kids is because the thought of giving birth and the thing is I'm one of those people that has to research everything, I couldn't go into labour not knowing what to expect, what can happen etc.
Honestly i think i'll do all i can to have a C-section.

C-sections aren't all sunshine and sparkles :3 While the pain may be pretty intense with vaginal deliveries, I think with all things considered, it's still the better option vs a c-section. You have to keep in mind that cesareans are a major surgery. This will be my first child, so I have no experience with either, but from everything I've heard (and seen with my two sisters), I'm hoping I can have a natural (albeit with some pain killers!!) birth.

The thought of having to have a C-section or an epidural terrifies me!!!I know its a possibility but ill do all i can to do the vaginal route first xxx

I have less than a month til I have to actually do thereal thing! Lol. I'm very anxious about it but I love watching programmes on it an stuff. I like to fully research everything, and to my surprise it doesn't put me off one bit. I'm looking forward to it if I'm honest, because I very much have the mind frame of once I'm at that point it only gets better and I'll be able to cuddle the baby I've been growing for the last 9 months. That makes me happy :) and that's what keeps me going I think! It is daunting as it is fear of the unknown and stuff, but really I think it's gonna be one hell of an experience and is a positive thing. Try not to fear it. That's my motto haha x

It's not that bad. (OK, obviously it hurts, but it's a relatively short period of time, you KNOW it's going to end, and that makes it doable.) Honestly, if I had to choose the pregnancy or labor? Give me labor. Of course I'd miss the baby-bump and feeling baby moving around...but the nausea, extreme fatigue, GROIN PAIN, insomnia, difficulty getting around at the end, and I got Bell's Palsy last time which totally sucked... I'd do the labor in a heartbeat!

In fact, after my first came out I immediately told my husband "I could do that again!" Yes it hurts. But it will all be OK. "Mommy amnesia" is a real thing - the second you look into your sweet baby's face the pain is gone. You will be just fine! Keep your eye on the prize. It is the most amazing thing in the world.

I think what scares me is if they have to cut you know...downstairs!! I just can't imagine myself stretching that far to pop a baby out! But i have spotted creams/gel things you can buy from mothercare that is meant to make things a bit more 'stretchable' in the later stages. So i will definetely be getting some of that. A girl at work was talking about giving birth to her little one a while ago and she said it was painful but after it all she would do it again! As amanda says women have been doing it for thousands of years - I just keep reminding myself that! x

you can try perineal massage that is supposed to help with tearing , and and trying different positions in labour for most of mine I was up dancing through contractions :) . Labour hurts there's no denying that but when its all over you dont remember the pain you just see this beautiful baby and think" I'd go through so much worse for you" . Tinkerbell there are some amazing one day ante natal classes for totally preparing you but honestly a c section is considered a major operation you wont be able to do much , with a natural labour you could be home in day afterwards :)

Yup I'm also terrified and often find myself sitting at home on my own staring into space worrying about the birth! My Mum had a pretty long and tough birth so I don't think that has really helped my mindset about it all! Whereas up until a few years ago I used to find it fascinating watching documentaries about birth, now I just can't look at them as it makes me even more terrified!

But having said that, I'm sure we'll all cope in our own ways and we'll be fine! It will all be worth it in the end!!

Im not even pregnant yet but Im terrified. Ive watched birthing videos of all kinds, Ive always thought Id want a water birth and still do but then Im petrified of looking stupid although I know no one cares! I hate pain and Im not good with managing feelings like that. Im dreading when I DO get pregnant and have to contemplate it all :(

haha i am so glad i saw this thread! i am only 6 weeks pregnant but i am in full swing of researching and birth planning. im deffinately gonna have to watch this "one born every minuet" your all talking about! aha.
i am most scared of the pain because my threshold is next to none! i cry like a baby getting a bloodtest done lol. but what i have found helps is planning early. but being in control and knowing everything it makes me a bit more relaxed!
look into hypnobirth, seems really good xx

Once i'm pregnant I will have a good think about it, don't want to just out rule a natural birth as like you said c section is major surgery but I'm terrified of the pain, the tearing, stictches, things not be the same again down there and then on top of that I have a lung condition some I'm worried about the preasure and getting really out of breath plus i'm also diabetic so could have a larger baby and i'm only a tiny person i don;t see how babies get out
It's something I have to discuss with my CF doctor anyway and they may prefer a C-section as it could be easier on me in the long run.

I think my fears are made worse because my mum had an awful time having me, very long labour, i wasn't in the right position, was quite a big baby (9lb) and in the end had to be born my emergancy c-section which from how the section then affected her I know isn't the 'easy' option either and she didn't have a much better time with my sister - only just avoided another c-section but ended up with 44 stitched  and my sister wasn't even 6lb

I need to read some positive, easy birth stories i think haha
