So I've final sat down on my own since last week so I thought id quickly write my birth story. To be honest it all happened so fast that im still in shock!
Sunday day I had been feeling pretty hormonal.. quite cranky and extremely heavy down below. I was told only two days earlier that baby wasnt engaged and only "at the brim" so I put the heaviness feeling down to him perhaps finally engaging.
I decided to go to town with the OH and DD and do a bit of shopping, again the heaviness feeling started to get heavier and I was becoming pretty uncomfortable. We decided to go home as I was finding walking a task.
Evening time at 7ish I started to get some back ache as well as light period type cramping. I thought nothing of it and decided I couldnt be bothered timing it... it was only when I mentioned to a few of the pf ladies how I felt that they persuaded me to download a contraction timer app. By 11pm I had lost my show and had timed them a lot and they had become every 3/4 minutes but only 40 seconds long. Again I shrugged them off as it wasn't anywhere near as painful as I had it with DD and I figured if they was "real" and that close together that I should be crying for pain relief by now lol (im a softy when it comes to pain).
Anyhow again it got to 1am and some off my lovely pf ladies still stayed up giving me support and advice. They persuaded me to call labour ward just in case. I did so and the midwife told me that although they are quite close, the length of them won't be having much of an affect of my cervix so to just ride it out. Happy with that I thanked her and decided to go to bed! How I managed to sleep I don't know, but I must have done as the next thing I know it was 5am and the pains had woken me up. Feeling them get quite nippy I took painkillers and attempted to go back to sleep. .. not a chance! I gave up and went downstairs to bounce on my ball.
7am OH got up to go to work (yes I didn't tell him a thing about my pains lol, and I left him to sleep through too! Im such a considerate gf haha!)
He got a shock when I told him I need to go to hospital. . He didn't believe me either! He figured I was exaggerating the contractions to him as I didn't appear to be in that much pain... (felt like drop kicking him in the bloody face at that point! !!)
Anyway I kept going until Dd got up and at that point decided I needed her away from me as my pains where quite nippy and she was jumping all over me. We got dressed and drove to mil's to drop her off..because MIL lives pretty close to the hospital I decided id give them a call just to ask them to have a look at what's happening. 10am we arrived at the assessment unit. I was laughing and chatting away to the two midwives seeing to me. They didn't bother rushing and was just plodding along taking my BP, temp, checking whether I needed continuous monitoring due to mu high risk status etc... Once they had casually sorted all that they then told me they'd check to see if I was dilated. Before she did she felt my stomach and asked me if I could feel "that" ... I had no idea what she meant so I asked "feel what?" ... she meant a contraction!!! It didn't even bother me!!!! She checked down below and much to everybody's suprise. .. I was 6cm dilated! I nearly fell off the bed! Things started to become a rush and a blur from this point on... they needed a delivery room for me so off they went to sort that, at the same time an emergency happened on the ward and I recall seeing two people crying outside a delivery room... distracted by all that I totally forgot about my pains and realised that I needed to push!
They gave me gas and air and I threw it back telling them I hate it... they had to break my waters as baby wasnt happy at all. My god the pain went from zero... to down right agony! Never before have I screamed that loud lol! I happily accepted the gas and air back and also screamed at them (my exact words my oh told me I said to the two midwives) "give me some fuckin pain relief NOW" obviously it was to late and they refused.... again I swore at them but didn't get my own way! They had me on a trace and they started to panic over babies heart rate, the room became a bit hectic then as people started to pile in... which then resulted in me panicking and crying. Turns out baby was getting tired and he was the wrong way. They made me lie on my side and to stop pushing as they wanted him to turn. I actually thought at this point that they was trying to torture me lol! Bloody gas and air sent me loopy! They took it of me after this. Turned him themselves and told me to push now... I just couldn't do it.. I felt like I was going to split open if I did!!
Eventually I got some energy and sense when I heard them tell OH that baby was tired and they need to get him out one way or another.. a few pushes and much more screaming and crying from me and my gorgeous little team yellow bundle was born a blue bundle 2 and a half hours after arriving at the hospital.
