Hello ladies...

I had an awful time with Hannah...everything that could go wrong did....

It ended up with a forceps delivery after a failed ventouse, I had strep B and needed blood transfusions because of blood loss....and that's just some of the things that went wrong...It was also a 36 hour established labour (from 3cm to delivery)..

I am hoping that next time round, I have an easier time.....I was all for the c section route it was so bad last time and this is what the health professionals have kind of said I should do. But I am considering trying natural again and I 'think' I would like to labour in the pool. I wouldn't want to deliver in there though...

Does anyone know if you can use a birthing pool after a previous complicated and risky delivery?

Thanks

xx

You might want to.find cosmic's post, i.think.she.was fighting for a water birth after.c section with her consultant

I've not given birth yet so am not best placed to offer advice but I will say the Maggie Howell Natal Hynotherapy is meant to be excellent for women that have had terrible birth experiences.

You listen to a "pregnancy relaxation CD" throughout pregnancy, read the book and then from 32w there is a birth preparation CD!

For the sake of £30 it might be worth investing when you do decide to go for bub number 2?

I don't want to put a dampner on anyone...but I used the Maggie Howell CDs all through my pregnancy and planned on that route....but it sadly just all went to pot. It did help me to breathe through the contractions when they started but everything just went wrong....

I will use the CDs again next time to help me relax.....but honestly the techniques went out the window with me sadly..

I do know it has worked for others though with slighly less complications!! My little madam just wanted to try and turn herself round in my birth canal.....not ideal! lol xx

I'm having a water birth in a mw led centre.
It's your birth, your choice x

i cant wait for you to deliver Cos...you are going to have an amazing and easy birth and give me hope :) xx

Sorry to hi-jack hun...

Cos - I had a VBAC and wasn't allowed to use the birthing pool! They led me to believe that it was too risky AND they wouldn't let me off my back! One of the MW (who came to see me after I'd had LO simply because I'd had a successful VBAC) actually said that most VBACs fail due to the woman not being able to move around as she woud like/need to. Great eh. I think it's fab that you're pushing for the pool!

Samsgirl - Are you able to speak with your GP at all about your concerns hun?

I didn't have a section though Cos xx

Oooh yeah, forgot that
I still think that you can aim for a nice normal delivery. As you know, my twin delivery was hell but I'm positive I can do it x

That's true babysmomma. They do not like you to be mobile, they want constant monitoring and mum on her back. Basically you are set up for a fail there. Studies have shown that constant monitoring is not any more beneficial during a vbac than it is in any other type of delivery.
Studies have also shown that vbac mums are at no more risk (in fact more likely to be successful) if allowed to be mobile and undisturbed during active labour.
I told my consultant that I wanted a water birth, with intermittent hand held monitoring, no 'just incase' cannula and no time limits for either labour or pushing stages.
I said if I couldn't have this in the mw led unit then I would be having a home birth.
They agreed immediately x

I am going to speak to my gp about it yeah. X

The natural / no drug route is plan A (my "Ideal") but I know it can go from Plan A to Z in moments.

I still think the CD's will be good for relaxation but of course you'll always have the thought in the back of your mind that none of it worked last time.

Hopefully next time is a lot more straight forward for you

Yeah, you're probably right....xx

I know I cant go thru what I went thru last time and I dont want to be worried about it all my pregnancy either!! Seems if I have baby naturally I will be very ill and laid up and if I have a c sec then I will be laid up too!! My plan is to have a c sec booked for my due date and if I go into labour before then I will try naturally but obv will have the extra medical attention!!

I think I will just see how I feel if I am lucky enough to be pregnant again. If I am measuring big again then that may sway my decision. I also don't want to be worried sick all through my next pregnancy. I was so I'll and so traumatised last time..... I would quite happily not do it again but we do want another baby at some point. I may also have some post traumatic stress counselling first too before getting pregnant x

:hugs:

I think you could have a waterbirth if you wanted hun. Did they ever tell you what caused the labour to happen as it did? I know they told you that the baby was going to be really big but she was 8lb something wasn't she?

I was told by the consultant that it was basically a series of unfortunate events in my case, obviously I am mentally scarred by the experience too and that is the only reason I think I would have a section, to avoid stressing about it. Though he did assure me that next time chances are it would be completely different. For us, the position of the baby stopped her descending into the birth canal and it took ages for my cervix to dilate. Which is why the labour took so long and seemed not to progress. Then we had the forceps to turn her to get her out, which I was told probably contributed to the shoulder dystocia and her getting stuck because they turned her head but not the rest of her, she was very twisted up inside.

I kinda wish I'd just had a section last time, she still has a damaged arm 5 months on.

Exactly the same hon. I got stuck at 6cm for over 12 hours and then she was in a funny position. They had to try and turn her in the birth canal, then she got distressed and they just had to get her out. My contractions had stopped so she was literally pulled out of me. No pain relief as anaesthetist was in an emergency which meant no c section for me or no epidural top up and the pain was horrific! Just bad timing... Middle of the night and short staffed! I wish I had pushed for a section and to this day I don't know why they didn't give me one earlier when igot stuck at 6cm and when they knew she had gone back to back. I am waiting to go in and talk through it with someone. I am scarred for life. I literally had so many complications.... I was so exhausted. Took 13 weeks to be pain free after birth. I know I would recover from a section quicker. I have also been told its unlikely to happen again but I am still so worried. Xxx
