Plus size mummies

Hey girls.

Well I have my booking in app tomorrow (well, today now! eek!) so will let you all know. Am really quite nervous about it now. Was wanting to walk on the treadmill every day but have been feeling so tired and just plain eugghhh at the mo I just can't be arsed :( Not even had one bit of morning sickness either and to make things worse the last two days I've been constantly hungry, let alone put off food lol! Ggrrrr

xx

Hi everyone! I'm in the same boat here. I lost a lost of weight before last pregnancy as I had the wedding coming up, got pregnant (obviously lost the baby) and just started eating my feelings. When I found out I was pregnant this time it did cross my mind that the midwife would say something and she did. (She was hardly Kate Moss herself!) a few days later she also put leaflets about weight during pregnancy in the post with a note. Well she may aswell have said "You're going to get diabetes and the baby will be born small and premature you fat cow"

To look at me, you wouldn't look twice and think "she's big" I'm just a normal woman. My BmI was the problem... But my friend who is a Doctor said BMI is a load of toot anyway!

I know I could lose weight but I'm going to do that after this pregnancy - I don't care how hard I have to work, I'll go jogging with a buggy :)

See I'm fat! (Size 18-20 on top and 22 on bottom) but I'm not unhealthy. I don't go he gym Cos I can't afford it. I'd they say anything I'm just going to say, look - I'm overweight but I eat healthily and I'm
Active and not unhealthy.

Bluegirl- do you mind me asking what your bmi was? What size you are etc? My friends and family tell me I don't look as big as I think I do but I just feel like they've got to say that. I KNOW I'm the biggest I've ever been and I hate it. I managed to stay in size 16 clothes (could get away with 14 on top but not anymore) since I got married but recently (even before pregnancy) they've all started getting a tad tight :(

Jojo, I'm the same. And that's what's frustrating- I make everything from scratch pretty much and like I said before we have a takeaway once a week but I don't eat unhealthy, I've even cut out snacking (well, until pregnancy made me STARVING!!) it's my portion sizes. I love food and I eat lots of it!

See I have small portion sizes as I can't tolerate a lot but I do love chocolate

My BMI is over 30... I'm 16.5 stone but nearly 6ft so on the bottom I'm an 18 and on top I'm a 16 but my tummy is flatter than a lot of people... I like to think I'm a good hourglass

Well I had my first midwife app today. Went really well, she was lovely. She was probably about my size and made me feel really comfortable. She said I will need to see the consultant but I probably won't be consultant led- my bmi was 34 :/ but she said he'll just need to see that I'm active and not chair bound or anything and it should all be ok. And will need to do the glucose test but that's fine too.

I also asked about the birthing pool and she said it'd be absolutely fine so I'm pleased about that because I've been quite fancying that idea for a while!

Not got a scan date yet, she's going to process it and I'll get a letter in the post within 10 days :)

So all in all went pretty well!

My belly is my worst bit! Don't mind being curvy and don't mind being a 14/16 but I hate my belly, it's huge at the moment and I'll always sucking it in. I get such backache too. That's why I'm probably more of an 18 on bottom now just because of my big tummy :( oh well, hopefully have a lovely bump soon!!

Why was the sonographer rude?

Juat didnt hold back before even scanning me saying it would be difficult. I am a size 18 and had no problems in my previous pregnancy. She wrote something on my notes like 'difficult to scan as very high bmi" which was a load of shit as baby was clear as day.

She was the only one who was negative through both pregnancies.

Jeez Louise how rude!! You'd think they would try to put you at ease seeing as its already a stressful time instead of being just plain rude! Glad you got a good scan anyway. :)

Hie knows what's going to happen to me then :'(

Aw I'm sure you'll be fine! I was really worried but it went fine today. Obvs not had the scan yet tho so that may be a different story but she was really nice today. When I was getting weighed I was cringing a bit and told me its all ok and not to worry. She said the bmi stuff was pretty rubbish anyway-a bmi of 34 (mine) could be an active size 16 (like me) or could be bed bound and need carers help to move about. That's why the consultant needs to see you for himself just to check you're ok.

I know how you feel but I'm sure you'll be fine. xx

Hello ladies! I'm a plus size mum to be too. I'm 5'7" size 16-18 and BMI was 36 at booking in but think I've lost weight since then.

I too was wondering if ill show really late even though this is my second pregnancy so I googled n googled n just like every other woman regardless of size, the verdict is we are all different n will all show at different times in different times (boring right?!!!!) soooooooo

I google imaged something like 'plus size belly/pregnancy pics' loads came up but my faves are in community baby centre .com some American some Canadian n some uk but there's lots if pics with ladies staring how many weeks they are their height pre preg weight / bmi etc.

I know we are all different but I live looking at em all so thought I'd share xx

aas i say im a size 22, 6ft tall and bmi is currently 44, was 42 at start of pregnancy, ive never needed special treatment and am healthy and fit, midwife led last time, perfectly normal natural delivery, baby was large but due to my height and size rather than any sinister cause. i have repeated gtt tests etc lol but again baby is large for no bad reason just natural to me, all gtt results are well within normal. highest my sugars went was 6.5 and 7 is borderline normal after the gtt so 6.5 is well within normal allowance. i dont mind being weighed, i dont look half as fat as my weight or bmi make me sound either so im not normally that unhappy about it either. just let my bally get a bit out of control after last baby lol.

Your bmi is just a but lower that mine so I feel a bit better :) most of my weight is on my ass and legs lol but i do have a hanging belly. my blood sugar is 5.5 currently and I have a perfect blood pressure and pulse rate. The only thing is I have slightly high LFT's due to damage remaining from my gallbladder issues last year when they rose to 700 or so (should be under 40!) they're now 47

I don't drink (usually a glass of wine week few weeks I'd that before I was pregnant) and I don't smoke at all. So it's just my weight

I had scan on tues. I'm down to a size 10 now with all the sickness, but she couldn't see much as I've got a retroverted uterus and my bowel (which is always backed up) is in the way too. Anyway, because of all that I'm going back on Monday and it will be an internal so they can get all the required measurements. Have you all been offered this?

M hoping they won't need to. it'll depress me :(

I just had a look at baby centre for the pics as I'm also really worried that I'll never show! Quite encouraging to see all the lovely bumps!
My SIL told me she didn't show till 20 weeks and she's not at all a plus size mummy so I guess it really is different for everyone- just hope that when I can finally tell people I'm pregnant that they believe me!!!!:oooo:

You'll show! Here is me at the end of my most recent baby.

Ive not known anyone who needed an internal due to this, maybe not necessarily your size just positioning. I was worried about this but all fine! Just tipped the bed slightly.
