Hi girls

I thought I would start this, as there are quite a few of us popping now!

I have just left hospital for the second time after being readmitted with visual disturbances (which were terrifying), and they found my BP had sky rocketed. They stabilised this over 2 nights and have sent me home with revised medication.

I am feeling a bit fragile if I'm honest. My delivery was quite traumatic, and I am feeling the weight of the responsibility of motherhood very heavily, after all the hospital 'drama'.

Freddie adorable, and a gorgeous baby. Breastfeeding seems to be going ok, my latch is good, nipples not too sore and if I can settle him to sleep he will go 3-4 hours between feeds, although the last 24 hours he has been cluster feeding, which has been very trying. I'm feeling physically very battered though, so I'm worried about the toll it is all taking on my body. I am anaemic after the blood loss during delivery (I always had excellent iron levels during pregnancy), I am obviously on a lot of medication for my BP, and I just generally feel like I have been hit by a bus.

Freddie is 7 days old, so I am sure I have a bit of the baby blues, but I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. OH has had to pop out for an hour, and I really want him back as don't feel I have the confidence to be on my own right now :(

Hope all the other October mummies and babies are doing well. x

Hey Gemsy, I'm away for the weekend and can barely get a signal but just wanted to post on our thread. Hoping I can still be in this one as still think of myself as an October mummy even though I popped 30th Sep.

Hope you're starting to settle a bit now. I also feel like I've been hit by a bus and like I'm living in a bubble but I'm getting there x

Thanks Vickimo, and yes, please join our thread! Its a bit quiet at the moment, while we wait for everyone to get settled, but hopefully it will liven up!

I am finally feeling a little bit more human, even went out for a walk today, and took Freddie to see a cranial osteopath as someone recommended I do it following his forceps delivery. He is being a delight I have to say (almost scared to say that in case it changes!), he's sleeping well, feeding well, and was weighed today and is back up and over his birth weight, health visitor was thrilled, so hopefully I am doing something right! :)

Hi girls!! Finally getting a minute to myself to try and catch up with all the news on here. My girls are doing well, an absolute delight! I reckon this place will continue to be a god send though as the months and weeks go by. xx

I guess I now belong here... Had my little boy on Saturday! Am nervous for the 5 day weigh in today as he did take 2 days to even start feeding properly (was going 12hrs between feeds no matter what I tried!) ... Feeding like a champ now!

Hope all the other October/November mums are doing well

Xxx

Hi there :) little SR is 3 days old (pretty much to the minute). He's asleep on me right now after our first properly successful feed. Like you Sam he just doesn't seem to want to feed. He won't wake up then he won't latch. One of my nipples is really flat and he's struggling to get something he can suck on so it's raw and bloody and hurts so much. Both sides hurt a lot to feed. The midwife is bringing the nursing nurse with her today to help me out so I feel like we might be turning a corner soon.

Other than that my in laws have left and I feel much more relaxed and am also able to hold my own baby when I'm not feeding him which I think will help too.

I can't stop looking at him in wonder. He's the most amazing thing ever and I'd do anything for him

Girls just to let you know, Freddie was the same for the first couple of days. I actually expressed colostrum into a syringe for him, as he was just so sleepy and not interested in latching. They just get tired, so don't feed, so get tireder, and it becomes a vicious circle.

By day 4, he was latching really well, and continues to do so.

Just use LOTS of nipple cream!!!!

Midwife has been twice today and helped me with feeding. She says he has a super powerful suck which isn't helping my pain. She was happy with latches, only adjusting them a tiny bit. She thinks he might be doing the wrong thing with his tongue and is coming back tomorrow along with the nursery nurse to see if we can improve things.

She was really proud of us for keeping going and being so focused.

She said we'd see what nursery nurse says but they may recommend a nipple shield for the bad side or to pump.

We both feel better knowing we're doing the right things for our baby and ready to face another night

So I guess I belong in here now then... :)

Breast feeding is tough! Unfortunately it didn't work out for us :( After trying for three days and Beth being very sleepy and a bit dehydrated, a midwife finally said that my nipples were quite flat. I decided to start expressing, which made me very sore after a few days because the pump wasn't working properly. It got me pretty down and I eventually decided to formula feed. It was a really hard decision and I still cry about it sometimes because I really wanted breastfeeding to work out. I probably would have had to stop anyway because I got a kidney infection and had to be put in quite strong pain killers.

But Beth and I are much happier now she's being fed properly and me and DH can share feeding duty :)

Ah Juice, I know how you feel. I gave Freddie a bottle of formula as I thought he seemed so hungry and it made me cry I felt so guilty.

Went out to meet up with my NCT girls today, all but one of us have had our babies now. LOVELY to catch up with everyone. I had some expressed milk that I took with me, so I wouldn't end up spending the whole time feeding. Gave Freddie that, by the time I got home, my boobs were fit to BURST!!! So painful!! I fed him, and expressed 6oz too, which I've chucked in the freezer, starting to build up my stock of expressed now! I've had a lovely glass of wine this eve, so going to pump and dump, and give him an expressed bottle this eve. I seem to be lucky in expressing, I get loads really quickly with a hand pump, I know some ladies find it really hard.

Had a fight with OH last night, all my fault. My confidence is at rock bottom at the mo. I'm back in my pre-pregnancy jeans, but my tummy is so soft and flabby, I'm feeling shite about it. My episiotomy is also still really painful, and having a quick feel down there, I don't see it going back to normal any time soon. Resuming a sex life seems like it will never happen, I can't imagine ever feeling good enough about myself again :(

I saw the nursing specialist today and with her help feeds today have been far more successful. They still hurt but not the same.

I had to pump off the excess so he can latch better and we worked on the match itself. It's such a difference and feels incredible. I'm so proud of me and my boy, we're going to make this work :)

Well done Scotch!! It is so satisfying when it goes right. x

Hi ladies congratulations to u all Japser was born on the 25th I am breastfeeding too but have also given him a couple of bottles of formula which I felt reli guilty about even tho my first was ff from day one I just didn't think I was producing enough as he always seemed hungry but now he latches on perfectly and seems to be quite happy :) just gotta solve the problem with bring up his wind now haha but I'm sure we will get there :) xxx

Hi ladies , can i join in too?

Roman is now 12 days old , where has that gone! And looks like weve all been having the same problems, sleepy feeders! His latching is not as good as devons and
So nipples a bit abused but slapping on the cream. He was 6 lb 6 at birth and he only seemed to go down to 6 lb 3 oz despite poor feeding in hosp by day 5. Then 4 days later he was still 6 lb 3! Just 30 g on. And now today he was 6 lb 5 and a half so there happy his birth weight is nearly back. His cord finally came off last night, poor lad seems to be an outty at the mo!! Were all innys!! But there are bits still inside belly button which might come out over next few baths !

Finding him sleeping well in the day and cluster feeding every 1-2 hrs in the early hours which is great ! Ha hope he switches round soon.

Dont think weve ever been so broke so been worrying about that but he was worth every penny, he wants to be held alot and sleep on you and its amazing just laying there together.

Morning girls! In bed with my laptop at the mo with Freddie sprawled out asleep next to me. Excellent night last night, put him down at 12.30, he woke up at 7, had a good long feed and dropped off again! Relieved he slept well as yesterday he was not too happy unless I was holding him, so I was knackered from carrying him around all day!

Just waiting for my night time bubble to burst, as everyone keeps telling me it will! Freds has slept so well at night since he was born and I don't want it to stop!!

Hi the all the new girls on this thread too, so lovely to see it filling up! :)

Ah sounds like we are all getting there and finding our feet. Sounds like you have a great sleeper Gemsy! Harvey is good too, sleeping through night unless I wake him to feed which am making myself do for now but once we know he is steadily putting on weight I may just let him sleep through properly. I have a couple of times as I've not woken up.... Bad mummy! But he feeds so much in the evening time and all day really and as I'm getting lots of wet nappies I know he is getting the milk he needs.

Have also discovered the white noise App tonight- worked wonders for getting Harvey off to sleep!! Definitely worth a try :)
