November 2020 Mummies

We had a private viability scan at six weeks and saw the little heart beat which was good and I've told myself I can book another one next week if I still feel nervous, haha. Hopefully I won't need to but I like having the option. The official NHS 12 week scan is the 12th of May so just over four weeks away :) Our midwife appointment is a week today :D

When is your scan? :)

Hi SockVortex,

Aw bet that was lovely seeing the tiny heartbeat my scan is 7th May! Seems like ages away but guess it will come round quick.

My newest symptom is a complete loss of appetite sadly I usually love food! Nothing appeals to me and I'm forcing myself to eat. Considering how I'm feeling I'm doing well and making sure I eat healthy, it's a struggle though as when I don't eat/leave it too long I end up nauseous, vicious cycle

How are you doing?

I’m ok. I’ve been sick a couple of times now which has not been fun and the nausea is pretty constant from the minute I wake up until after I’ve eaten tea in the evening.

Food is hard. My poor husband is governed completely by ‘what the baby feels like eating’, which at the moment is chicken flavoured super noodles and cream cheese on toast, haha.

Just got my scan letter it's 27th April. I'll only be 11 weeks xx

Oh wow, that's really soon! I think anywhere between 11 and 14 weeks is normal, from what I've read. I'll only be 11+5 when I have mine (by ovulation date).

Yes! I've only been driving my husband crazy counting down.

This is so exciting. It does worry me its not at 12 weeks as I feel anything could happen in a week and you could think this whole time your baby is fine xx

I know what you mean. I've been reasoning that if they think it's too early for whatever reason then they will probably call you back in for another scan in a few weeks.

Has anyone thought about names yet? Names are an obsession of mine (as an autistic person I often have strange obsessions and names is one of the ones that stuck with me) D and I agreed baby names about six months into our relationship, haha.

Yeah we've been talking about name even before we started to try as we knew we wanted children together. I've got a long list as keep hearing new names that I like. Some my OH aren't to keen on but I'm working my magic haha

What names do you like? Xx

We've settled on Hero Jane Rosemary for a girl and Gilbert John Joseph for a boy :)

Hero because D's favourite Shakespeare play is Much Ado :) Jane was D's mother's name. She died when he was in his twenties and I never got to meet her. Rose was my nanna's name and is a longstanding name in my family. It's my middle name and I'm the fifth woman on my nanna's side to have it so I wanted to carry on that tradition with my daughter.

Gilbert we chose because we both like Gil as a nickname but wanted a full version of it for the birth certificate. John and Joseph were the names of both of my granddads and Joseph is also D's middle name.

Sylvia and Harold (Hal) are our back ups.

What have you agreed on so far?

We both like Ruby or Renee for a girl, I like Clay or Rudy for a boy. Oh isn't too keen on Rudy, he is coming round to the idea of Clay. I have 2 nephews so my daughter has used all the family names for them haha xx

Aww I love name chat! @SockVortex I love those names, names that have special meanings are lovely. @CrazyChic your choices are lovely!!

We don't have a boys name, although I have been thinking Thomas or Tom recently as that's what my husband's grandpa was called and he died last year. Maybe for a middle name.

The girls name we both like is Mara, which is the Scots Gaelic word for Sea and I'm a marine biologist. However my friend had a girl last year she called Mara so I don't know if id feel wierd using it. We also like Freya.

My son is called Hamish Anthony and my daughter's name is Ariana Rose.

All such lovely names. There are so many names out there to chose from. I hear one on the telly and I'm like oh that's nice haha don't want to wish time away too much but roll on November xx

Hubby and I both like Jake for a boy.

We can't agree on any girl names.

He likes Keziah and Alice for a girl.

I like Audrey or Violet. But to be honest I keep changing my mind.

@CrazyChic Rudy is so unusual yet it's got familiar sounds (similar to Toby, Cody, Jude etc) so isn't odd to the ear. Currently #271 in the England and Wales ranking. That's a solid placement. Not too rare, not too common.

@CharliC I love Mara. It instantly reminds me of Mara Wilson, who is awesome. At #587 that's another really good balance between familiar and rare. She'd be unlikely to meet another Mara :)

@EmilyMaria Audrey is such an understated classic. It's #298, which is surprising to me to be honest given that it's so pretty!

You guys have great taste! It really bugs me when people stick to the current top ten as though they're either too lazy to research out of it or too afraid to search for something a little more unheard of. My other pet peeve is people ramming a string of letters together like... Bramylee or something.. and deciding that that's a great name for their child. Why invent something that has no background or meaning when there's a whole globe of names out there just waiting to be explored! :D

My stats come from here: Baby Names in England & Wales

DarkGreener is a great resource for checking on the popularity of a name before you select it. It contains all the birth data from England and Wales from 1996 up to 2018. It will be updated in September with 2019's data, so we will benefit from that before our babies our born :D

That's quite interesting to know, my DD is Macy which isn't that common either. There are a lot of Maisie's but only a few Macys. My step son is Andrew-James and we call him Aj for short. I'm not to keen on common names. My name is Shan which again is very uncommon and not pronounced how its spelt xx

How do you pronounce it?
