Ive never really been one to have nice manicured nails. Ive always kept them short and neat- never bitten them. Since having Jake they grow really fast and they look really nice and Im starting to want to grow them, not long or anything but to look feminine and make my fingers look slender rather than short and stubby!

So what advice have you got for a real novice! the nails are about to grow past the end of my fingers but they are square at the moment and sharp in the corners. I have no clue how to shape them or to help them become strong etc. Please help :)

I don't know hun as I'm terrible for biting mine (I never used to be), but I'd be really interested to hear the answer.

Hiya!

I posted last week about nailsinc.com and how you get a 20% discount by typing skymag in the discount box.

You could maybe get some strengthener there. If I was you I'd invest in a decent nail file and just gently round off the edges of your nails. You can leave the main edge square, just sort of file off the sharp corners of the square.

Also, there is a product called Solar Oil (you can get it on-line or at any "Creatives" nail salon) which you use on your cuticles and actual nail. Nails need moisture to grow strongly, and oiling them is a great way to achieve this!

Then you could paint on a clear strengthener, there are lots to choose from and you should try to match one to your nail type. Most nail product companies do a kit tailored to your individual needs.

It sounds as if you have really good nails that don't have a specific "issue" so you shouldn't have any problem finding something that suits!

Some nail products to look at -

PM me if you like, I've tried most of these!

Solar Oil is FANTASTIC....plus it smells amazing (almond oil it's gorgeous).

I have long natural nails and swear by Rimmel nail rescue, sometimes called 2 week treatment.

My main tips are:
ALWAYS wear nail polish as it protects them and stops peeling.
As soon as you notice a chip file them.
I file very gently about every 4 days to take of any ragged bits that might catch and break.
Do your cuticles often.
Never use them as tools to open cans of coke etc.
Might be worth have a mini manicure and watching how the girl does them and seeing what shape suits your nails best.

I always get comments about the length of mine and will be very sad when I have to cut them short as I don't want to stab the baby.
