What kinda thing u guys buying out of interest?! Im being nosy:) I've seen some people use the proper mat pads or some use the always night ones. I was in sainsburys and they had packs of 12 always max protection night ones in sale for 99p! So got a few packs as always is usually pretty dear! Do you think these will be suitable? Xx

dunno hun, dreading having to wear any sort of sanitory towels especially on hot summer days but don't think we have a choice there..got a couple of maternity pads from mothercare and it's says that 24 should only cover about 48 hrs so I reckon going to need much more than that but maybe won't need something as big in the following weeks..

They'll probably be fine hun. I need to get more have only got the boots ones for my hospital bag!

Oooo best ones I found were sainsburys very.comfy lol. X x

Ive just bought a couple of packets from Mothercare for my hospital bag and the first 48 hours, after that I was just going to buy whatever tesco had.

I found the maternity pads cheaper than night time sanitary towels but always handy to have both kinds as your flow gets lighter. I found I only really needed the maternity pads for the first week or even just first few days. After that I moved onto normal sanitary pads and just changed very often as I was more mobile I wanted something less bulky. Definitely make sure you have some maternity ones left for your next period though - with both my babies I bled worse at my first period than I did after delivery but I did have csections. I bled so much I took myself to the hospital as I was filling a mat pad in less than an hour. Turns out I just bleed heavily at my first period after my babies.

I've bought 4 packs of mothercare maternity pads for the first few days, i'm going to get always night time ones after that I think. x

I'd bought a big bag of them from mothercare, the cheapest they had, but found afterwards initially they were too rough. I was very sore as had torn and had stitches (sorry if tmi), some of my stitches became infected and I had a infection in the lining of the womb, so lost alot and was very uncomfortable down below. I ended up going through quite a few packets of the more expensive pads with aloe vera because they were much more gentle. But I wouldn't have know any of this in advance x

glad this has come up as its one of the things on my next list of bits to buy lol

think I will get some maternity ones to get me started, and then whatever night time/huge ones they have on offer for after that :)

I've got a few packs of maternity ones from superdrug as they were buy one get one free or something like that so grabbed them while they had them!

I went through about five packs of the maternity ones from mother care - aloe Vera ones are nice and soft - before going onto always ultra xx

oh i was wondering about this. so how many roughly do you think i will need to buy. xx

I need to get some too, i only have a packet of mat ones in my hospital bag. I HATE them and have used tampons for as long as i can remember so really not looking forward to wearing nasty pads :-(

ive bout pads from all over lol wherever they on offer ive picked them up... i got some maxi always ones and bought loads of night time pads as thats what i used last time x

the first day or 2 i used maternity pads as the always night pads do tend to give leakage in the first few days. i used 2 packs per day the first couple of days but i had a heavy flow x

The maternity pads are quite thick. You might think that they would be uncomfortable but believe me when you have stitches and sitting down is agony, the pads give you that cushioning which helps!

I used asdas own brand - little angels and I went through about 3 packs in a couple weeks (a lot at first then reduced down to 2-3 a day and that's when I switched to normal pads)

I used tons and tons of pads after Lizzie was born - used the thick ones for the first week or so - like Stunned says, the cushioning is a help! Then once I was out and about a bit more I changed to thinner ones (although they were still maternity ones). I did have a couple of accidents while out as it was really unpredictable. The worst thing was if I sat down for half an hour or so then stood up...think the pads couldn't quite cope!
Definitely get ones that are long and with wings too :)

oh god this all sounds quite depressing! Its been lovely being pregnant not having to have periods and weve got a huge one just around the corner now! x

I have bought 3 for 2 Boots maternity pads. I bought a pack of thick standard ones for heavy flow & then 2 packs of slim fit ones (similar to Allways ones). I had stitches with my first & sanitary towels do catch on them! Maternity pads are better & as everyone says, if you get a sore foof the padding adds a bit of extra comfort!!

Yep lochia is one of the more unpleasant things that we have to go through after giving birth & it's horrible! But it only lasts a week or two, but like you I detest pads, but was loving them when I had stitches
