long 1st labour, how long was your second?

Oh Lacey I think I remember you too!??? Although I'm not sure I've a terrible memory I'm afraid! And yes our LOs are born a day apart! Exciting your second baby is due too!

Well I guess I'll soon find out and let you know how my second labour is! I've also got to sort my iron levels for them to agree my home birth. They are 9 at the moment!

Golly to the lady in the car park! Very scarey! Hope it's not me in march lol!

My first was 13 hours wasnt too bad tbh, i remember falling to sleep between contractions and the midwife didnt believe i was actually in labour and said i looked too calm and composed when we had to go in to be checked over.

Second was induced on due date she couldn't wait to get out overall labour was hour n half :) only had gas and air as they gave me pethidine too late and it didn't take affect until i was on the ward with the other new mommys and babies.

third was induced due to high blood pressure and the onset of pre-eclampsia. He decided to come just as quickly as is his older sister in only an hour and half and only used gas and air.

Just hope this one is going to be just as quick as. i found that the contractions are just a tad more intense i got moaned at though by both midwife and my chap cuz i wanted to do it without gas and air and they kept telling me to take it even though it kept making me feel sick.

Just a few worries this time around as i'm high risk of getting pre-eclampsia and will more than likely be induced around 37/38 weeks.

That's really unprofessional of your MW. Its great to have pain relief options but they shouldn't be pushed on you.

Hope it goes well this time and you don't have problems with PE. You had PE with your 3rd but not 1st and 2nd? That's fairly unusual isn't it?

Well just thought I'd update my own post. Our little boy was born Wed night after 9hrs of active labour. Before that I had quite regular BH contractions all day Tue as well as slight period type pains on and off. I lost a small amount of plug at about 11pm and contractions started being strong enogh for me to think it might be the begining of labour so if I count from then as early labour it was about 23hrs which is much shorter than the 38hrs total and 27+ hrs of active labour last time.

Only just saw ur reply bunny. She said she wanted me to take it cud I looked in pain but I knew if I really needed it id take it and gladly use it

Yeah I thought that bout PE I had high blood pressure with my 2nd but they didn't link it with PE. I've gotta see consultant and have another scan Monday to find out what they are defo going to do.

And congratulations on ur lil boy glad ur labour was shorter than ur first xx

Ahh congratulations hun n glad it was shorter for u.

Congratulations Bunny! At least you got a slightly shorter labour. Hope you and your little boy are doing well xx

Yes, thanks we are doing great! I've been feeling quite sore around the middle and back. Feel a bit kicked about so have taken much longer to feel like walking about and doing things than last time. The baby was almost 11lbs, so the MW says its not surprising! I didn't tear at all though and I don't feel nearly as exausted as I did with the last labour so as long as I take it easy I feel good. Enjoying lots of cuddles with our little man.

Just for statistical purposes.....

First labour was 15h (51h from first pains to delivery but 15h was 'official' time on my notes)

Second was 80 minutes. (4 hours from waters breaking to delivery but 80 minutes on my notes)

Thats a huge difference! Sometimes I think the number of hrs that ends up the official time on your notes is a bit random. This time was a bit easier to judge but its hard to say when active labour started with my first labour because it wasnt really following the rules. The MW ended up putting down 27hrs but I think that was just a guess.

With James I was already in early labour Bunny and and had been for ages, so 15 hours - to me - is no way representative of the actual time it took.

I went in at 5cm and it still took me 15 hours !!!

This time things were a lot easier for me to track. Waters breaking was the start and that was 02:45, baby arrived at 06:45.

I also looked at my labour notes and first entry from the MW in birthing centre was 05:25.

Expected (and prayed!!) it would be quicker but never in a million years expected it to actually be fast.

My first labour was about 55 hours, although the midwives refuse to acknowledge it. Apparently it doesnt count until your contractions are regular. Mine kept going from 3 mins apart to 7 mins apart. So I got sent home. The next day I was supposed to be induced because I was two weeks over but the nurse said that as I was already having contractions I might as well just stay and wait it out. It was another 24 hours before they "regulated" and my labour officially started. So my notes say about 12 hours in labour, but to me who was the one going through the crippling contractions for two days before hand it was 55 hours!

Now I'm overdue again and really nervous... I'll keep you posted (if you're still interested, I've just noticed how old the original post is and maybe you've had your baby now?)

Well if it only counts from when you start having regular contractions I never was in labour with my first, lol :). The contractions were all over the place, even during pushing. The labour was 38hrs total and I'd say I was in 'propper' labour for about 30hrs. When the MW arrived (we had a home birth) I was 5cm and she said that established labour had only just started because my contractions hadnt been regular, which would have made my labour only about 14hrs but after on the notes she wrote 27 hrs of established labour so I think she changed her mind after seeing how slow the progress was and that my contractions never got regular.

My second labour was quite different and progressed much quicker, although the contractions were still a little irregular. Let us know how it goes for you, there is a good chance it will be much shorter this time.

Congrats bunny. That's great to hear.
My labour was about 5 days and about 50 h recorded in notes - I'd actually been having regular contractions for a good 12h befire then too. I'm really hoping this one is faster. Got through so many different midwives! X

I'm really hoping mine is nice and short as it took 23 hours with my daughter and I was really struggling towards the end as I was shattered - took me 3 hours of pushing! There were no doctors to assist so I had no help which I am glad about now as all was ok but I am sure they would of made me have a section if it wasn't a weekend with skeleton staff x

H16 my first was 50h and 2.5h pushing. Second was 2.5h beautiful home birth. Two pushes he was out :) have faith x
