My 1st labour was 38hrs total. I know second labours are usually shorter. I just wondered for anyone who had a long first labour how long your second one was?

First was 48hrs & second was 7hrs

2nd time I had Brixton hicks and some mild contractions for a couple of weeks before where as first time I didn't have a single twinge but all kicked off suddenly

Thanks, that's a big difference! I had strong BH and mild contractions/painful BH for several weeks before. The MW thought I might go into labour on the early side because of them but I was 10 days over, lol.

First was 28 hours 37 minutes. Second was 7 hours 53 xx

That's quite a big difference too. I know anything can happen but I was kind of thinking that seeing as the last one was 38hrs I could reasonably expect this one to be in the teens at least. Your answers are making me wonder though. Did you find your second labours much more intense? I was in active labour for almost 30hrs last time but there were big gaps between contractions and they never got very regular, even when pushing.

I was in denial about my 2nd and nearly didn't make it to hospital never mind delivery room!
My first early labour was very difficult and they had to rush the pushing stage as she was in trouble but because that was so difficult/painful/intense I honestly didn't think my 2nd was coming anytime soon!
Also my first was 10 days late and my 2nd 12 days late :)

1st 19 hours from waters breaking and first contractions (born day before due date)
2nd 12 hours from first contractions (born day after due date)
3rd 8 hours from first contractions (born day before due date)

Mine was 51 hours Bunny so I am bloody well hoping this one is shorter!

Everyone I know in RL with more than one child had a shorter second labour (and a better overall experience)

X

I was in labour 48 hours waters broke first. My contractions were not regular so they wouldn't believe I was in labour even though I was having some very long contractions.

I'm frightened of a other labour its been seven months but I still haven't got over it yet I am hoping when there is a second time I will fall asleep and when I wake up baby will be by me

Oh God I'm terrified the other way around gave birth to my first in about 2 hrs but I was a bit strange as I didn't feel ANY contractions at all they told me I was having them n in Labour but I cudnt reel anything till I went from 6-10 in seconds n then had the urge to push n he was here within about 30 mins. I'm scared next time I will not know again n given birth wherever I am ekkkk!!!

First labour, 10 days overdue, was back to back and from start to finish was 25 hours. Ventouse delivery with an episiotomy.
Second labour, 13 days overdue, induced, had my waters broke and labour was 2 hours with only a few pushes. I had a very small graze all done with a tens machine and Gas and air-a much better experience. x

Thanks all. Its interesting to see the variety. I don't particularly want a super quick labour because I found it fine last time and for the most part actually quite enjoyed it. I think I'd find a really quick labour more of a shock. It would be nice if it was a bit quicker though as I was pretty exausted and we were all getting a bit worried and stressed about the lack of progress at one point.

My mum's first labour was 24hrs, second 16hrs and third 13hrs so I was thinking this one is likely to still be long but not quite so long. I'm quite surprised though by how quite a few of you had second labours that were way shorter than the first.

1st 35 hour back to back paaiiiiinnnnn
2nd 6 hours not that painful and had cottage pie between contractions and pushing x

I definitely found my second labour more intense. I struggled with my first, got to 6cms and stopped so had to go on the drip. Second was different I had a back to back labour, no more painful, just pain in different places. But contractions were regular and I didn't need any intervention this time xxx

My first labour was 52 hours with the latent phase, as my LO was back to back, and ended in a ventouse delivery.

I based my second being similar to my first and was adamant I wasnt going to hospital until my waters had broken because I'd be stuck there and being more mobile at home was the way to go, but after a Sunday morning of a bit of backache (but not enough to stop me nesting), I took me and my family off for a cousins BBQ, to be greeted by quite intense pain!
I swifltly left the BBQ, leaving my LO there to play with his cousins, appeared at the hospital waters and plug still intact to be told I was 3cm, the pain though was so intense!
Anyway, long story short before I was offered any pain relieve, I was in a birthing pool with the urge to push, and my 2nd child was born!
On my notes, it was documented, stage 1 (latent)- 40 mins, stage 2 (del) - 2 mins. It took me longer to deliver my placenta!

So from 52 hours to 40 minutes!

I'm expecting my bird anyway and have no idea how this one will pan out!
Good luck, general,y speaking though second labours are shorter than firsts.

My midwife was saying her first was four hours ten minutes.

Her second was ten minutes.

My first was three hours 55 minutes.
I'm scared I won't make it to hospital for this one...
(I had absolutely no sign of labour, either. From nothing at all to regular, 2-3 minute gap contractions, to baby, in less than four hours ).

I think a super quick labour is worse than a long one in some ways. It must be a shock!

Have you considered a home birth Lacey? That way the MW will be coming to you and at least you won't be in danger of giving birth on the way to hospital.

I did think about it for all of two minutes, but I live in a piddly little (rented) flat, and the hospital's only 5 minutes away. I can probably get there quicker than the Mw can get to me xx

I'm scared of my second labour being too quick too! My first labour was 2 and a half hours and an hour of that was pushing. I went from 3cm to fully dilated in 70 mins! Eeekkk! Didn't have regular contractions until my waters broke (when I started pushing!)

I'm wanting a home birth as don't think I want to risk delivering in the car or car park!

Just gotta hope everything goes straight forwards for the rest of my pregnancy, I'm worried this one isn't going to turn (is breech at the moment) and then I might not have a choice of home birth.

Tiggy... I remember you from first time around :)

Our LOs are like a day apart, I think?

I remember being monitored before I could go round to delivery... Everyone suddenly scattered like cockroaches... Lady was having her baby in the hospital car park. In January. At like, 1 in the morning.

Do. Not. Want.
