Hi all,

I start my first IVF this month, just waiting to start down reg in 1.5 weeks. At my recent planning consultation the nurse did an internal scan and confirmed that I had mild PCOS with 12 follicles on one side and 10 on the other (she said normal is 16 follicles in total). I have regular bang on 29-30 day periods, not overweight size 10, fit and healthy age 33, she also said I have a heat shaped uterus. I just wondered if anyone knows anything about PCOS mild and if this could be the reason why I haven't had a BFP in over the 2 years of trying? Oh and my OH sperm is well above average, he has had lots of tests and they all have said the same. I am now worried the PCOS could effect IVF? xxx

Good luck in starting the process hopeful!
I don't have PCOS, just PCO - everything is regular similarly to you. I haven't been told it's prevented any pregnancies, but my issue is more male factor though. I did read an article surprisingly that said women doing ivf who have more follicles i.e. PCO are likely to have a better eggs (as you have more to chose from).

Some of the other ladies might have a better idea regarding ivf and PCOS

Hi MrsLaw thank you for your response, I am going to sound really silly now but what is the difference between PCO and PCOS? I think I may have worded my post wrong? I have Polycystic ovaries but not diagnosed with PCOS? xxx

And good luck just noticed you are currently going through your first IVF cycle? xxx

Thanks! I'm getting there lol
I have polysistic ovaries so they have the appearance of having several follicles when they do the ultrasounds. But having polysistic ovarian syndrome typically comes with symptoms such as heavy, painful or irregular periods. They could have a hormonal imbalance as well as polysistic ovaries.

I had a scan 10yrs ago and was told I had pco, then via blood test was told that I didn't have pcos so was completely confused not knowing if I had it or not. Then had a recent scan and was told I definitely have pcos, 2 and a half years ttc and one mc. My periods are regular and was told I don't need treatment but I think that's a crock as everyone with pcos needs treatment to catch pregnant. I wouldn't think pcos will affect the outcome of IVF though. x

Ahhh I see, I have PCO then like you as I literally have no other symptoms of it. Sounds like we are in a similar position?
Do they know what you haven't managed to conceive or have you been classed as infertile like me? xxx
Sorry hope you don't mind me asking xx

Yes we're similar, it's interesting that your Dr has classed you infertile. After doing a semen analysis OH had really poor morphology, so they referred us for ICSI (although his last sample was interestingly normal). They don't believe im infertile, aside from polysistic ovaries, everything is working really well.

Sorry MrLaw I am getting my wires crossed, I have been classed as unexplained (don't know why I said infertile) because like you everything apart from PCO is working really well. Sorry I am just getting used to all the lingo xx

I also have PCO, although I do have bleeding before my periods and heavy, painful periods. I also over-responded to clomid which apparently is a symptom. I've never been pregnant despite having 3 IVF cycles (the 2nd one I had a chemical). I also have a reverted uterus. They say it's unexplained as the PCO shouldn't affect anything as long as I am ovulating (don't necessarily agree with that but hey). I'm currently awaiting a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, which will rule out endometriosis and other things. I do have some signs of that. Xx

Hi hopefulmum, I hope you're well, how is it going? I just saw this post and wanted to come on and wish you all the luck in the world for your first round. Hope it goes well.

Hey, thanks for checking in :-) I am good thank you, On my 8th day down of down reg, got my down reg scan appointment on 27th, so its all in full swing at the moment.

How are you and bump? xxx

Ar amazing, well on the way then! How are you feeling on the down regs any side effects at all or feeling good? I've got everything crossed for you!

I'm good...had a rather hairy start but I 'think' things are settling down now I'm in Tri 2. I thought getting pregnant was hard, turns out I wasn't set for an easy go at the first Trimester either haha!! ;) x

I feel fine, really thirsty but got used to that now and have had a few headaches but apart from that I seem to be good (don't want to speak to soon). At our pre planning appointment the nurse warned my partner about me becoming very hormonal which hasn't happened yet so I am waiting for that to kick in.

What happened in the 1st tri? Glad it has started to settle down for you. Still really happy you managed to get your BFP naturally :-) xxx
