Hyonobirthing//Natural Birthing

It's nothing to do with thinking about pain and trying to stop it. Completely the opposite in fact. It might sound like a fancy name but that's all it is, the concept is very simple when you boil it down, it's about getting down to the roots of how natural birth is and trusting our bodies to do something they were designed for. Relaxing and avoiding the fear, tension and therefore pain cycle, which is so ingrained in society when it comes to labour these days. The point is not to think about it being potentially painful.

I decided not to do the course though in the end, partly due to cost, but partly due to the fact that I think the concept is simple and I want to find my own personal ways of relaxing. The books/CDs I think should be enough for me.

Sarah I got my set off Waterstones website as it seemed cheaper than Amazon/eBay at the time.

I was crying at the thought of labour before I went in, it was nothing to worry about, I think I have quite a just get on with it view anyway helped but I don't see any reason to spend money just go with the flow :) x

Thank you, just grabbed a copy off Waterstones. Very excited to get it!
I'm sure some people can do it without the help of CDs but I think I could use the peace of mind knowing that I'm doing it properly haha less likely to freak out half way that my self taught techniques aren't going to work!

Thank you for your help ladies x

oh great! :) do you have the book too? I downloaded the book on my kindle x

Nope the book doesn't come with the CDs. I haven't fully listened to all the CDs yet so can't say 100%, but the book explains the whole concept of natal hypnotherapy and history of birth and that sort of thing. I think the CDs are for just putting it into practice if you know what I mean. x

Can't find it in kindle store. Can you find the link for me please hun? X

I didn't do hypnobirthing but I did have a natural birth other than needed waters breaking to start me off and a bit of gas and air for the contractions (none for pushing) my established labour was 3 hours from the time my waters went to birth. For me I was quite set in my mind that I wanted it to be as natural as possible medication wise. Unfortunately for me she had pooped in the waters so I was attached to the monitor throughout but I stood for every contraction until it was time to push. I think being able to stand up helps, I hung off of my OH. And I just got on with it and trusted that my body would get me through it. Certainly wasn't painless though. But I didn't expect it to be! Xx

Any advice on staying awake during the CDs? I fall asleep before I get to the birth part most of the time and wake at the end :/

I think that means it's working well for you duck!

Yeah exactly - they say it doesn't matter if you fall asleep - as it's "talking" to your unconscious mind.. so it makes no odds if awake or asleep. I often fall asleep during the CDs (in fact I've never consciously remembered ALL the CD track in it's entirety - even when I've been aware of staying awake longer on occasion I fall asleep at the end). Just means you are totally relaxed - which is the idea.

Enjoy - I love it.

I found listening to it in the bath is really nice with dim lights, I'd like a water birth so I think being in water while I listen is a good idea. Added bonus I don't fall asleep in the bath :)

That's a good idea, didn't consider listening in the bath... :)

With candles... mmmm... I'm sooo there! Next time.. I'm heading for the bath.

When did you all start listening to your CD's and reading the book etc?

I started researching straight away when recommended by my cousin, who is a midwife. Bought the relaxation CD at 18weeks, been listening to the relaxation CD ever since, 2-3 times per week. I'm now almost 30wks. I've since bought other CDs that they recommend for nearer the birth (effective birth preparation and labour companion), so will start using them intermittently with the original pregnancy relaxation cd.

I listened to the CDs as well as signing up for a set of 2x workshops that teach the basics as well. The first workshop day was mid-November (at about 20wks) and the 2nd one/last one is this weekend (at 30wks) - can't wait.

I cannot recommend this enough, I am very aware that until it all kicks off on "labour day" I don't know if it will prove worthwhile.... but for now at least, I take time on a regular basis ("me time") for relaxation sessions with my feet up, and I am feeling 200% better about the impending birth/labour. I was extremely anxious and a self-confessed wuss in terms of pain relief. Now I am looking forward to (hopefully) a pain relief-free birth... well he's hoping anyway.. at the very least I'm feeling chilled about it all. I can't wait... I can only attribute that to the relaxation cds...

Sarah, there's no reason why you couldn't start now if you wanted to. I'm using the birth preparation one now and have been for weeks. I'm sure the more you listen the better! Xx

I started from about 20 weeks last time I think, probably do the same again, the books are great to read first in preparation before starting the cds.

Thank you all for you support, love, words of encouragement, and advice!! :) Sorry it took so long to reply and thank all of you ! I just posted another thread explaining my terrible hemorrhaging placenta ordeal which put me on bed rest for nearly a month! All is good now though. Excited to continue my journey and still hopeful to do a natural birth!! xx
