hsg test what to expect?

my doc told me if the hsg is clear they would do the lap to see if there is any endo or other reasons why I'm not getting pregnant. They said if that comes back clear it will go to ivf after that. I'm sure they'll find something cos something is defo going on in there, just don't feel right, always getting funny pains. Why can't ttc be simple like everyone else makes it look :(

Mine was painful when the dye went in but it didn't last long. You feel bloated afterwards because the dye remains in your abdominal cavity having nowhere to go! You don't want a blocked tube because it might need to be clipped or removed, meaning you could only get pregnant from the other ovary, IUI would be a waste of time and 2 blocked tubes would mean IVF is your only option. A small blockage of fluid can often be dislodged by the force of the dye though.
A lap and dye involves keyhole surgery through the bellybutton and a general anaesthetic so is more invasive.
Most ladies HSGs are fine, just a bit uncomfortable, hope that's the case for you.

Yeah I'm hoping it's gonna be not too painful ha :)

Mine was painful but I found out that I had a rare condition called unicornuate uterus so this is why it was so bad. Most people just say it's a bit uncomfortable so I am sure you will be fine :) lots of luck xx

I had my hsg yesterday and have been in a lot of pain since, I wouldn't say cramp but don't know how to describe it, I am taking paracetamol and codeine and ibuprofen but this isn't stopping g the pain, has anyone else had this or should I be worried, my boss sent me home this morning due to the state I am in. Xxx

I've heard it feels like early contractions, but wouldn't know what they are like. Maybe call the clinic where you had it done. Hope you're ok.

I had the day off after my HSG and I still had pains for around 4 days afterwards xx

Thank you, all I have been reading is uncomfortable at the time but fine after, I am struggling to move around today. Hoping being flushed out helps us get a bit though, that's all I am clinging to right now xxx

Yeah quite a few people get their bfp after a HSG! I also bled after mine too. Mine was a very unpleasant experience . Hope you feel better tomorrow xxx

Hey hun , I feel 4 u ,it is normal it will ease off think it just effects people different , althought I had no prob with having it done 2 hour later I was in extreme pain , like contractions and also trapped wind feeling in chest lasted a day or 2 but my bits where v.tender 4 a week , but in the long run its worth it , fx u feel better soon , hot water bottle and strong pain killers xx

My first HSG was so painful it had to be abandoned. I was devastated because I thought the fact she couldn't get the tube in was why I wasn't getting pregnant. But it was just because she was training to do the procedure and my cervix is difficult to find.
The 2nd one was fine because I'd had 3 tubes through my cervix since then, whilst asleep in the Lap and Dye and twice for IUI. It did hurt but the doctor kept going and said it would be over soon, and the nurse comforted me! Afterwards I felt stiff, sore and bloated and needed painkillers for the next couple of days. Luckily I had the weekend to recover.
Its such a horrible thing to have but it might prepare us in some way for giving birth whereas most ladies go straight from no painful tests to giving birth!

Thanks ladies, I am feeling much better today just feel tender and bruised down below and inside but that's nothing compared to yesterday, I didn't have mine done until day 14 so think I missed ovulation this month but still have tried despite the discomfort. The things we go through! The men have it easy xxx

Appointment on Tues to get results. Feeling really anxious now! Eeeek!

Sending you lots of good luck vibes xx

That is good you get your results so soon, I've got to wait until Feb for mine and had it in July I think it was that long ago I can't remember. Hope yours is all ok :)

That sounds far too long! My 2nd HSG (the one they were actually able to do!) he told me it was fine as he was doing it. Didn't you see the dye going through on the screen?

I had to wait 3 months for my results. They knew something was wrong but she said she wasn't qualified to make a diagnoses there and then. It was a long wait! Xx

That is a long time to wait for results I think. They also told me then and there that they looked ok but had to wait for the report to be sent. Well today they have told me that everything was clear, no problems so I'm getting referred for ivf due to unexplained infertility.
