hi ladies,
i have been exclusively breastfeeding for over 3 months now and i have not lost a single pound in weight.

a friend said to me that wait until baby is about 5 months and the weight will just start to drop off.

so do i give up bf so i can crash diet or persevere?

so my question is how much weight did you lose bf and at what stage?

xxxx

I don't think I lost any weight from bfing alone, but I've been slowly dieting while bfing and its coming off slowly. I've lost about 22lb in 16 weeks so not too bad! Just through making the right choices with food & doing a bit of exercise!

I did weightwatchers as well as breastfeeding and was very disappointed with my initial weight loss until recently. I think at about 6 months my milk changed a bit and is more 'creamier'. Now at 7 months the weight is starting to drop off!

I've only fed from birth 5 weeks ago, eaten like a horse and now weigh 3 pounds less than the day I found out I was pregnant!! Not sure if I just got lucky, didn't put much weight on during pregnancy or if it was the breastfeeding.

Apparently all the studies do say that you need to feed between 3-6 months to see a difference because at first your body realises how many extra calories its going to need to feed baby so it stores fat more than normal x

I would persevere with bf if you can! My DD is now 8.5 months and i have finally lost all my baby weight. but it wasnt until about 5 month ish that i noticed a change reali. xx

It didn't start losing weight till when baby was 4 months, I now weigh less then I did before I was pregnant and I eat a lot of Cake. Stick at it, it will happen!

I weighed 11stone 7 the day before being induced 12 days late !! After 2 weeks I was down to 9 stone 10. My original weight was 8 and half stone ish. I breast fed for 12 days (gutted I had to stop but did for many reasons) I think it helped my stomach go down but not necessarily the weight loss. Just been very very lucky and haven't made an effort to diet however the rest of the weight will need to go via diet and exercise as I stayed the same this week.

Xx

I was loosing really quickly, literally a pound every 2 days for the first month, then it just stalled so had to start watching what I ate boooo. Not sure if it was directly linked to breastfeeding or was just the loss of retained water as I'd put on over3 stone! I reckon it must have been though as I was feeding constantly. Has settled now though so is good to hear I may still have more benefits to come ;-) xxx

hope this happens to me! xx will stick with it to fing out x

Definitely stick with it! It was probably around 4/5 months that it started coming off me too but after 9 months of BFing I went to my booking appt. for this baby and I was 10kg lighter than I was at my booking appt. with A! I also eat a lot of cake and chocolate and carbs!xx

Also remember, it took 9months for your beautiful baby to grow inside you and your body had to go through so many changes to accomodate it. you shoild allow at least 9 months for your body to revert back. It more than likely will in shorter space of time than this, but just lookat your reward for carrying a bit of extra weight! Xx
