How can I make sure am guaranteed a epidural?

Rhea I had hg u til about 22 weeks and then it just went away, replaced by heartburn bit ill take that any day over the vomiting, I was petrified oflabour but do I sound a bit weird if I say I sort of ....enjoyed it? Births on tv wouldnt gwt much ratings if they werent dramatic, and I was fully exexpecting amy screaming and telling my husband I hated him, gas and air seemed to be enough for me. I hated pregnancy I was so glad for it to be over that labour seemed like a breeze compared to the 9 months I had leading up to it

Hi bunnyn
A lot of woman with HG have said to me you have put up with HG for so long the labour is nothing in comparison, my HG is still here and am scared am going to suffer till labour I just thought with having HG and spd tha would make birth even more harder and painfull, I may well surprise myself but wud like to know tha the epidural is there for definite as I know il want it,

Congratulations on ur baba xx

I know this was from a while back, just wondering how you are doing?

I would honestly rather go through another 38hr labour than even one day of HG when it was at it's worst. I was fortunate that I stopped feeling sick at about 17 weeks though. We are TTC again so I guess I'm a bit insane!

I had a rubbish pregnancy with my first, spd, sickness all through, but I ened up having an 1 1/2 hour labour, on gas and air, there wasn't time for anything else, I had been petrified crying I was so scared but then there was nothing to be scared off gas and air was amazing. I didn't feel woozy just really happy (it is laughing gas mixed with oxygen) My second labour was 6hr and again did it with gas and air. I never thought I could do it, one dr told me I wouldn't due to my bmi been high, but I did, keep positive there is no point worrying over something that hasn't happened yet. And they wont let you go without an epidural if you ask for one, especially if you explain why. I just had the nhs but they where wonderful, constant care from two midwifes and I could have left after 6 hour but my daughter ended up in neo natal. I couldn't fault there care xx

I'm not sure if it's brave or just stupid lol! HG with a toddler is not going to be great but I don't want to wait because of my age. I'm just praying it wont be worse this time. I have talked a lot about it with OH and the plan is for him to take some time off work when I get really bad. It was only for about two weeks that I was so bad I couldn't move. I really hope you keep getting better.

You shouldn't, I just like to tell people mine because horror stories used to make me panic like mad before I went through it myself, but they shouldn't stop you if you need one, unless its really fast but then it will be over with before you know it ;) I will say labour goes very fast, even six hours with my second felt like two. x

This isn't meant to scare you but I think it is important to know the corollary effects and necessities of epidurals.

You will need to have a catheter fitted. This means you will lose control of your bladder for a while after labour and it is difficult sometimes to get this back. I had stress incontinence as a result of mine being removed too early and many women do experience this to some degree. It can be traumatic.

You will be in the hospital for several days with an epidural as well most likely. This can be difficult.

I had to have one but only as a last resort for a forceps delivery. It was blessed relief but I really wish I'd known all of that beforehand. I would have liked to have been prepared for those things. I would have coped better with foresight.
