How are all you new mummies doing?

Saw it on call the midwife this week. Apparently steam helps (or so the programme showed anyway)

Yeah they recommended I did that whilst waiting for the doc to ring. Can't say that it did help...he just got fed up & wanted to mess! Pretty sure I read on nhs website that they don't recommend it which is helpful isn't it?

Surely the website is right! I'm going by 1950's advice always lol

Hi. Doctors can give a steroid to help with croup. My son has had it a couple of times. I hope you LO feels better soon. It's awfully scary when you haven't heard a croup cough before!

But the nhs call handler advised it lol!

Thanks rooster - was the steroid helpful?

Yes the steroid helped a lot. My son seems to really suffer with sore throats. He got croup again at the tail end of last year and we got through it on Calpol alone that time. Make sure he has plenty of fluids and if struggles to eat just treat him to a bit more yogurt, milk and even a bit of ice cream as they'll soothe a sore throat if he has one.

Lmao pumpkin!!

Thanks I will ask the doc about this tonight. I've just red it can make them restless tho so not to give it on a night? Sometimes yogurt is all he will eat if he's poorly. We have plenty in xx

Hope Austin's ok hon! Wee shame.

We are doing her christening and birthday party so need hour help ladies. All I've done is the minister and hall and don't even know where to start!!

I slept terribly last night worrying so I dunno how you've got on when S has been bad!

It does take it's toll for defo but remember it's only temporary. Hugs hon x x

I still have no idea what to do for Emma's birthday. We don't know other people with babies, so can't do a party at the soft play or anything. And not sure I can be bothered inviting all our friends to the house. Can't be bothered cleaning! And my in laws forgot it was their grandaughters 1st birthday and booked to go on holiday. Might take Emma to bird world on her birthday though.

Well done Ryan :-)

And poor little Austin. My nephew had croup not too long ago. My sister is a nurse and she was panicking about the breathing. Don't know how I'd cope.

So nothing given for croup as first 24 hours apparently worse but he now has conjunctivitis! Wasn't a wasted spot as he needed eye drops for that xx

I'm glad he's over the worst of the croup. He's having a run of bad luck now with getting conjunctivitis

After a recent chest infection too! I've just read croup can often cause a secondary virus so looks like this is it! Rather this than an ear infection. At least I can see it & it's not bothering him

Aww poor Austin! It's rotten when they get ill and just end up catching other viruses

I've started skipping hayleys lunch time bottle of formula as she started not eating her dinner or bedtime bottle for a good few days. Seems to be working as she's eating lunch, dinner and drinking bottle at bed again now.

my head is like a sieve, but i know someone had said if baby doesnt drink 20oz a day regularly they needed additional vitamins, what vitamin is it they need again? I'm heading into town tomorrow so was gonna pop into boots - but looking at the baby vitamins online ive gotten myself confused, they have baby vitamin drops with 14 vitamins, which seems excessive ?

That's righg Kerry once they are regularly below 20oz. I bought abidec vitamin drops. Asked at the pharmacy counter but they are just with normal vitamins. I haven't used them yet but think I'll start this week if Thomas' milk intake doesn't pick up as he only drank 10oz today

We give abidec. The dose is much smaller than other vitamins and easy to give with the syringe. Isabelle likes it too (although she didn't at first). Vitamins are currently on 3-4-2 in Boots.
