Just dipping in from WTT. Are you all taking folic acid already? I’m getting my coil out in June and planning to start it in March x

You need to take it 3 months in advance of TTC ideally x

I would also start 3 months beforehand if you can. I think they also recommend you take vitamin D as well.

Yes that’s what I’d read, was just wondering if everyone else was doing similar things. Took me a year to get pregnant last time so hopefully not sonlong this time.

I am also starting to try in March and have been taking folic acid since the start of Jan (which was when we started to discuss trying to conceive, we were originally going to start trying in May but have since decided to put it forward as far as we can, hence now March)

You should start taking it now along with vit d. you could take some trying to conceive tablets but that's up to you, the only things you need to take are the folic acid and the vit d.

Bring on March

Just realised your not starting in March but June - but yes starting in March if you are trying in June would be the right time :)

See from the research I’ve done so far (quite extensive with my work) I see that folic acid and vit D are the most crucial during pregnancy, but the evidence suggests that it’s the folic acid preconception that is the most beneficial. I’m a bit loathed at pregnancare and the like because they are so expensive and no better than Tesco own brand. If any of my patients at work ask, I always tell them not to overboard on branded stuff.

Because it’s been recommended by multiple doctors, I make sure to take the active form, folate (or methylated folic acid), if that helps :)

Yeah one of my patients was talking to me about folate the other day, she’s chosen it instead of folic acid. But I’m u sure I’if she took it prior to conception.

Folic acid takes 3 months to build up to required amount. Also it is the vitamins you ingest in the months befor pregnancy which the baby will be using so you need to get in a good state generally.

When I had my coil out we were WRT for a few months (coil had expired) and u was advised to start taking folic acid straight away in case of mishaps . Doctor said and I quote.....just the cheap and cheerful folic acid on its own not any expensive pre pregnancy vitamins. So I have stuck with that since then. Started TTC in June and that was Feb last year I started taking it x
