I'm not even gonna bother posting photos of ffions birthday on facebook. Just haven't had hundreds of pounds to be spending on her like everybody else has on their kids, big mounds of gorgeous expensive presents. Lucky them for being able to spend that kind of money, I'm sure heir kids will have great birthdays whilst ffion will be stuck with some shite crappy cheap garden toys and a trip to the sealife centre.

I'm not having a go at them some of them are close friends, I'm just realising what a rubbish life I'm giving my kids

Aw don't be silly Hun! She's too young to understand the price of presents anyway and would prob prefer a cheap
present to an expensive one!! And as for taking her to a sealift center that's a great idea! My OH's family have messed up what I had planned for laceys birthday this weekend so atm we're not doing anything!! Chin up Hun x x

Don't say that hun, it's not about what you can buy them, they are richer than alot of kiddies to have a Mum that loves them so much

 You're giving them a wonderful life! I've just bought Toby a bounce and spin zebra for £14 on ebay for his birthday and he'll only be getting a few other little things - I don't have the money to spend at the moment either, but that doesn't matter to them. Sam would have been happy just with a big pile of cards and a slice of cake on his second birthday - he just loved the fact that the day was all about him x

Don't be so hard on yourself, the presents will soon be forgotten but the time you spend together won't. Take lots of photos of all the nice things you do together, that's the important thing. I'm sure there are loads of other mums in the same boat as you. xx

 Hey you, you know we can't all have thousands to spend on pressies  and if I did I still wouldn't

I agree, make the day about her and she'll adore it and love all her presents

I agree with what the girls say hun  Some people go OTT sometimes.. I'm sure Ffion had a great day xxx

me and my o/h had totally different child hoods, my mam was a single mam, and his mam and dad both worked full time and got him everything he eva wanted, BUT they didnt take him swimming or to the park, they were too busy with work to go on a school trips or go see him in school plays and this has really stuck with him. Me on the other hand didnt always have the best presents or latest clothes but my mam did everything with us walks in the woods trips to the park came on every school trip under the sun and I really think its these things children really remember dont be too hard on yourself im sure your kids will too.

I seen pics on FB of a one year olds birthday and I swear the pile of preasents was bigger than a pile I would have at Christmas for all 3 of my kids. It was rediculois!!! It doesn't impress me like, a special day and a lovely trip out is way better than a load of toys that a kid wouldn't play with anyway xx

 ffions go a have a great day hun! I agree with mamafy, even if I had the money I wouldn't spend it on them like some people do! Tbh when I see pics on fb of people with piles of presents taller than me I just think it's really vulgar! I defo value love over money, you can throw as much money at kids as possible, but that doesn't buy a loving stable environment! For Christmas katie got some stacking blocks off me and ella got an activity arch, they don't really know what's going on anyway!

Kids her age dont have a clue what cost means, My daughter got a half price pram (9.99) and some tent thing to go into the garden (half price under 15 pound) for her 2nd birthday. The pram is ruined, and we've only just put her play tent up!! ffions wont understand thats its her bday so will be made up with whatever you get her hun, my son turned 1 in may and he didn't get any thing from us as we just didn't have ANY money, he didn't know sure we felt shit about it but he did get some of Oh side of family. Dont be to hard on your self. x

Terry you bloody daft bat!!
I don't know about you but I don't remember a thing a bout most of my birthdays growing up or the amount of presents I got. In fact I know I didn't get tons of stuff.

I remeber days out at the sea side, picnics, playing at the park and feeding the ducks.

Just think theese £££ presents will be lost/broken and ignored before very long and if you start doing the piles of presents and expensive presents young, you have always got to live up to that and top it every single year and that 9 out of 10 times will lead to a spoilt brat!!

Well I for one think the sealife centre at 2, is a really lovely idea and I bet Ffion loved looking at the fish, far more benificial to her than some overpriced toys.

you are far too hard on yourself, there will always be lots of people that fire money at their kids, unfortunately I think it will only work against them in the end, buy making their kids values about materialistic stuff and set them up for money problems of their own, seen lots of it on the spendaholics show recently too, all related to their childhood. Also kids that have far too much too easily will never value anything properly and look after or treasure it. If they have less, they will develop as far more creative kids, as they will make up games, and imagine and be far happier.

My kids had everything they needed from car boot sales for the first 6 years or so for their xmas and bdays, and they still haven't discovered name brands , they have never mentioned them yet and my oldest is 11.

You really are doing the right thing for your kids X

Couldn't have put it better myself ;)

Aw you girls make me laugh...

I guess I am being silly... She has 5 cheap outdoor toys from eBay, not any brand but I'm sure she'll like them.. Just hard to think about putting those photos up on facebook when I've seen so many nice huge piles on there lately. We are going to haven next week (our inlaws paid for us to go) so I know ffion will have fun and treats there too. I got her a book today so she has something to open and family members have kindly given me their presents already so she at least has some sort of pile to come downstairs too.

I've been such a tired wreck the past few days and when your tired everything just seems so much worse :(

 Honestly hun I wouldn't stress xxx

I have a birthday rule in this house £40 maximum and thats it, they get more spent at xmas but its not all about ££££££, its about making it 'their' day and it will be special xxx

if you give your children everything they want they wont learn to apprichiate what the get or got

I'm so glad you said that! My max for birthdays is £40 too and the eBay toys were £95 but I had £50 in my paypal already so they cost me the difference, the sealife centre the kids go free and it's only £7 for me, bargain and I know she'll love looking at the fishies and touching the crabs etc

Sealife is a fab idea! You on about the one in Rhyl? You saying my daughter had a shitty 1st birthday ;) thats all we did if you remember and tbh thats how I like it atm ...Megans 2nd won't be fussed but Caitlins 3rd I may fuss up more (more than before anyway)! Its about the kids enjoying themselves not how much you spend. x
