~February & March Mummies and Babies~

Hmm strange night here. He went down at 7.45 having drank 6ozs and refused more. Woke up at 8.30 inconsolable and wide awake. Eventually I offered him milk and he drank the full bottle! He can't possibly have been hungry, especially for a whole bottle???

Never mind, he's asleep now and I've had a lovely bath with coffee and a galaxy car :-)

I'm looking into doing an a level in biology (as a stepping stone to a medical based degree) I'm 85% sure I can do it and do it well just anxious about the practical experiments, I don't know or give a crap about that bit! has anyone else gone back to education? just curious!

im replacing baby dust in this thread with sleep dust for mummies and babies to have a good nights rest

Hey Kat, I did Biology and Chemistry a-level. I can try and help?

Nicky, sorry to heat about Jas losing weight, she'll put it back in with a vengeance though.
Xxx

So, last night after my bath I somehow managed to fall asleep on the couch, still wrapped only in my soaking wet towel and towel wrapped around my head. Only woke up at 2.30am when I heard Spencer crying, cue me pulling the cold wet towels off and running through to Spencer butt naked. Found Billy in the kitchen making up bottles lol... bet I looked a right state!

So now I've got the cold and my hairs a state! Billy said I looked so comfy he just left me! Men!

where did those brains come from and can I have them please!? Any advice u could give would be much appriciated esp about the practical side as I've not been in a lab in 10years!

I'm sorry the sleepy dust didnt reach everyone, ruby was awake screaming at 4am this morning as well so maybe there's something in the air!?

When O was constantly waking himself up & taking an eternity to go back to sleep I started reading articles like that. I'll admit that when I was reading them I was looking for a solution. Now I realise that he's one of those babies that needs to 'practice' no matter what time it is & that's ok. It doesn't stop me moaning sometimes about how tired I am but it won't last forever....one day he'll have all these wee developmental milestones under his belt & we'll both sleep through. Until then I'll moan occasionally, drink coffee & keep saying Clairey's wee mantra....tomorrow is a new day. :)

That is just it hopes. I am tired, really freaking tired, but have to accept that E is waking for a reason. Be it to practise a skill, with hunger, just want a cuddle, whatever and while doing those things at 2/3/4/5am might not suit me, it is the way it is for now. It won't be forever, tomorrow is always another day.

But still, every night, when I lay him down to sleep I wonder if it will be the night that I wake at 6am without hearing a peep from him. Ever the optimist! ha.

I've been lucky in that I've had a few good nights. Those mornings I've woke at 5am in a panic, like something is wrong & jumped out of bed. I should have just laid back down, took a deep breath & wallowed in the joy that I hadn't had to get out of bed a million times. lol

Can someone take away Harry's snot so he can nap longer than 20mins. My poor little lamb can't breathe laying flat :(

I have just been reading two very sad stories on the front page of daily mail about post natal depression. My heart breaks for those two women it really does x

Ok crafty mums - you got me into this - so you need to help me now!!

Have made the salt dough santa's - and am letting them dry now - they look quite good and Emma seemed to enjoy making them.

But some of them are drying with huge cracks in them? Anything I can do? I tried to re-wet them and smooth them over but lost patience.

Also - do I need acrylic paint to paint them with? Where can I get that?

Was the dough wet enough when you made them? Depending on big the cracks are i would let it dry and decorate ignoring it, or refill with dough.

Yes, acrylic paint. Any craft place - the range, wilkinsons, hoobycraft. They are 99p in wilkinsons. Then mix pva glue with water to make a vlear varnish, then they won't dry out.

I thought it was wet enough - it captured all the wee lines in their paws well!

I'll see what it looks like painted - might try and layer it on.

I think I perhaps tried to dry them a bit too quickly. I stuck them in my Aga for a bit, at the lowest it could go, but that might have still been too hot!

Do you put the PVA glue mix on before or after you painted them?

Kat, I was a bit if a swot at school. I really enjoyed it and ended up doing A levels in French, Italian, Chemistry, Biology and Sociology. I got As in the languages and sociology and B in bio and C in chem.

Biology did have a lot of practical experiments and they all differed with each module. We also had coursework which I found very intense but we got to choose what we wanted to research. I remember finding the liver fascinating and doing my study on that. I think my subject was the effects natural substances have on it and if they're healthy - things like herbal teas and concentrated tomatoes (purée) are actually awful for the liver! Anyway I digress, I found Biology extremely interesting but very intense. Each module had a lot to take in, the equations were complex and came in so many combinations. You really need to be dedicated to firstly understand it and secondly to adapt it to the exam questions.

Being older you won't have the flippant distractions you would have as a teenager and will want to swot and be perfect at it - so you'll have that to your advantage.

However it is time consuming, the theoretical part you can obviously study at home but you'll need time to spend on the experiments in a local college. At school we had 8-10 hours a week for the theoretical and practical combined.

I would say you should look into what path you want to follow before choosing to do it as it will give you the motivation to keep going and see past any boring bits/glitches/tough parts when you're studying. I personally think its a fab idea and you don't have anything to lose really but it is a big jump from gcse level and very intense. My philosophy in life is if someone has done something then I can do it too! Lol. I more often than not fail but I give it a go!

Sorry I hope I've made sense. It's a bit of a ramble but if you have more questions then let me know!xxx

Thousands of pounds worth of toys lying on my living room floor.... and Spencer chooses to play with a bit of metal that's broke off the tv unit. Pain!

O is lying amid a floor full of toys & he's playing with an empty lucozade bottle. Our boys could clearly entertain themselves in a practically empty room. :)

Hmmm.... My boss has just been round and suggested I consider a job share promotion at work. The job will be advertised Monday and she said I'd have a good chance if I applied. I'd have to talk to the other person she suggested I job share with who has children who are similar ages to L & J. I'm not sure we could even sort it with childcare etc.... I don't know - seems like a good opportunity if we can work out the job share aspect of it, but I was promoted when on mat leave with lily and it does make coming back to work more stressful....
