February 2017 Mummies - First Trimester

I had to make a decision as well about whether I wanted a combined scan or just a dating scan, I can change my mind until the scan is booked but just wondered what others are doing and if anyone has any particular views on it. I have personally chosen the dating scan which is what I had with my daughter as well. I have had to friends with extremely high combined results and one had a very stress filled pregnancy and had to make awful decisions but in the end chose to just continue with the pregnancy as she wanted to give her baby the best possible chance, she had a gorgeous perfect baby girl with no abnormalities but at one point was being told it would be best to abort.

A combined scan is a scan at 12 weeks and a blood test then they calculate the risk of abnormalities such as downs syndrome and other chromosomal disorders. Or you can chose just a dating scan where they do basic measurements and give a due date.

The combined scan is that the nhs one at 12 weeks? Xx

Kimmy: I'm planning to get the test done. It's not certain but I would want to know as much as possible . Knowing that the child could have down syndrome would help my husband and I prepare better for the event. To each their own though.

Tigress yes that's the one. Before it was a quadruple test but not they've changed it so it also detects for other trisomys like Edwards... I think anyway. You have the 12 week scan and they measure the nuchal measurement then you have a blood test to measure some of the hormones present and from there they can assess a risk. They also take age into consideration for the risk assessment.
I'm definitely going to have it and if it comes back high risk then I'm going to go for the harmony test rather than anything invasive. It won't change my mind on the outcome but I just want to prepare myself. That's my reasoning behind the decision anyway. It's a really tough call either way.

Yes defo, I think I will take what they offer as well. I'm 24 so I'm guessing they will do all the usual. It's better to know I think xx

Still just tired and a tiny bit nauseated. I've been eating a crazy amount of Asian food. Just completely obsessed. Today, I went all the way to a Malaysian restaurant for lunch, just because I felt like a certain dish. Had Thai yesterday, Sunday Chinese, Vietnamese on both Friday and Saturday, sushi for lunch on Friday(yep, was naughty).

I love Asian food so much aswell at the moment! I just crave Thai and Vietnamese stir frys constantly!

Symptom wise I haven't been as bad as normal today but the sight of goats cheese, watermelon and beef makes me want to heave!! Such random things!!

Yeah I can understand your reasoning for wanting to prepare, for me it wouldn't change any thing and I feel it would make me worry and stress whereas if baby is here I will just get on with it and love it unconditionally no matter what. I don't have any risk factors anyway so I believe that is in our favour.

I have felt good today, had a friend over for lunch and not had any vomiting. I too am loving Chinese and Thai food yum!!

Im hating my fridge at the moment, strong smells like onion or garlic just set me off. I cant do strong smelling foods. Xxx

I've got my booking in on 2 Aug. I'll be 10wk+1 No scan date yet. Last time they didn't arrange my scan date until my booking in appt. I think that was because they only asked me which hospital I was going to go to at my booking in, so they can't make a scan appointment when they don't know where for I guess...

It's different this time though. When I saw the Dr, they gave me a list of weekly pre-booking in sessions with a midwife and I'm supposed to go along to one of these sessions to discuss early pregnancy things and learn my different options.
Has anyone else gone to a session like this?

I'm so sick. Not eating or drinking much. Hope everyone else is well

Pebbles that sounds good! We dont have anything like that here.

My nausea seems to have eased a lot today which of course is making me worry something is up! I've decided against paying for an early scan and instead buy myself some new swimwear for my holiday. My 12 week scan is on the 8th August and I'm on holiday for 2 weeks in between so hopefully I won't be counting down the days till the scan!

Ive got my midwife booking in appointment today! Dead excited! Xx
